I didn't want to dig up an ancient thread for this one

And then straight to the point. A finnish store sells the gamecube for 50 €. That's about 55-60 usd. It's 2-3 times cheaper than ps2 and xbox at the moment and I thought of buying the console and get my long awaited share of console gaming.

The reason I haven't bought a console yet is pc gaming that has been enough for me, but since more and more games are skipping pc, I havent got to play many good games.

The reasons I want to buy gamecube? NBA Street 2 and 3, Def Jam Fight For NY, James Bond games and all types of arcade action I've missed. And if the console costs as much as a game, it ain't a bad deal.

Now I have considered buying and xbox or a ps2, but I'm not rich. I have to save money for the future and spending 200-300 on gaming is not what I want to do. 50€ for GC however is somewhat ridicoulus since the new NBA Live for pc costs 50-55€ and a new pair of basketball shoes over 100€.

I won't buy a xbox360 or wait for ps3 since they cost too much right now and don't have many games, +nba live 06 for xbox360 sucks balls.

So is there anything I need to know before putting a mere 100€ to console gaming?
Does GC have some awesome features I need to know?
Does GC lack some major features it should have?

Tell your opinions and experiences about GC so I can make up my mind for good.

"nba live 06 for xbox360 sucks balls."

For a minute I thought you were smart, then I was reminded you are thinking about getting a gamecube? Come on man, get an original xbox. The small controller is much nicer, it has a hard drive, the loading speeds are much better, you can play on xbox live and also play great games like halo, halo 2, half life 2 etc.

Gamecube to me would only be worth it if i was japanese and into those pokemon titles. Go for the xbox. It is more expensive, but its worth it in simply the better games available.

If you have a few friends and 4 controllers, I highly recommend Mario Power Tennis (I want it badly :x ) I played it at a friend's house with my 2 controllers and his 2 and its a mad party game doing all sorts of crazy shit :o :o

The Gamecube is OK IMO but PS2 and *ugh* Xbob are better
But Gamecube is more a party console IMO.

I'm not into fps games, that's why xbox isn't that appealing to me. 50€ for a gc is. + I can't find NBA Street 2 on xbox (N) my favourite console game ever. I'll probably make up my mind this week, but I'd like to hear your experiences on the gc. is there any noticable downsides?

No online, the fact that nba street volume 3 is on xbox and i havent seen it on gamecube.

Heres the thing, you can get those games for xbox, and play people online with those games on xbox live. that to me sends the value of xbox through the roof becuase each game with live is so much more playable. plus rosters, the graphics, the hard drive.

xbox is just a much better system. i spose if you only want those games (i dont see why you'd want to limit yourself to just those titles), and you have no interest in kicking peoples arses online, and dont want superior graphics and a hard drive, with more comfortable controllers, then by all means go for the gamecube.

i think the fact that you're australian might be a part of not seeing those games....we get nothing down here. but yeah, i agree with jugs, the gcn is great for multiplayer. get super smash brothers melee, that one's a must-have. metroid prime is a really good game as well. and of course there's resident evil, and a few others.

What do you mean we get nothing? I'd rather be here than Uzbekistan :proud:.

Any console is good for multiplayer, and if the gamecube doesnt have online multiplayer, its not in xbox's league for player vs player gaming.

NBA Street Volume 3 is on the GameCube. I have it. There's no big difference and the GameCube does have the shortest loading time. If you REALLY need the online I guess that would make things different.
If you want the GameCube, you should get Super Smash Bros, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, those games (and all Nintendo first party games for that matter) are great.
Bored.

Well this is kinda sad, but my xbox\s dvd drive makes a prettty big loading sound all the time. Everything else works fine. Anybody else have similar problems/issues?

My friend had one and it always did that, he said he called Microsoft's 800 number about it and they said it was normal.

Good decision. (Y) I have a ps2 and I regret passing on an xbox. Anyway, my DVD player in it doesn't even work either. It takes a while to load, then sometimes it plays and alot of other times it doesn't.

Does anyone know a reliable e-store that has NBA Street 2 and could sell it to Finland? I haven't found it anywhere here, so I might have to order it from some other country (N)
