LOSS vs Indiana

Postby Shing on Tue Apr 18, 2006 8:46 am

(Indiana (4-7) @ (9-8) Sacramento)
The Pacers and Kings played it out in Sacramento tonight and gave the crowd a great game to watch. From yet another awesome Bibby to Marion alley-oop to the hilarious sight of Jermaine O'Neal running the floor like a point guard before throwing it up to Danny Granger for an emphatic alleyoop! This game had it all despite the lacklustre final score. Typically, just after I made a segment on Shawn Marion's rebounding, the Kings' Power Forward only managed 7 boards tonight behind Brad Miller's 10. Danny Granger played an intense 18 minutes and posted impressive stats whilst the league leader in scoring: Peja Stojakovic could only manage 12 points in his 31minutes!

Viewers of the highlights should watch for Jamaal Tinsley's execution of the worst pass I've ever seen! Tinsley, perhaps shaken from trying to out rebound the Kings' Potapenko, seems to be looking to pass to Fred Jones but instead rolls the ball over the court like a stone over water only to be picked up by Raja Bell!

The Big Game has finally arrived! Tonight Sacramento travel to Phoenix to take on the league leading Suns who've dominated from day 1 of the 2005/06 campaign. And who've seemingly benefitted tremendously from Sacramento's three-player-switch back in November that sent Shareef, Artest and Tino Mobley to them in return for Jermaine Jones, Raja Bell and now the Kings No.1 man, Shawn Marion. For Phoenix, both Artest and Amare are having fantastic years, supported strongly by Rahim and Mobley, but nothing compares to the season of Steve Nash. Canadian born Nash is 4th in the league in points per game and 1st in assists per game!

In the 29 game season the Kings had a quiet month in January - playing just two games - and have had nearly a months rest since their previous game. Phoenix are coming off a 3 game road trip but show no signs of slowing, in their last 3 games they've beaten Orlando (135 PHX - 79 ORL), Toronto (PHX 109 - 96 TOR) and Atlanta (PHX 141 - 76 ATL) with stunning offensive performances.

Around the League on Sunday the 5th of February: The Suns (14-2), as usual, lead the league and show no signs of slowing their momentum towards the playoffs. After an 86-83 loss in Houston, the Suns followed up with three wins in a row, two of which they won by more than 50 points!!
Detroit (16-5), Cleveland (13-5) , Philadelphia (15-6) and New Jersey (11-5) are all clustered and fighting for hegemony in a very competitive Eastern Conference where the Heat (16-9) follow not far behind. Detroit's 6 Wins in a row gives them the hottest streak in the NBA and they look favorites to win the Eastern Conference, though in all honesty it is far too close to call.

For January, Allen Iverson (27.7ppg, 3.5rpg, 10.3apg, 0.7bpg, 2.5spg) and Tim Duncan (22.5ppg, 10.9rpg, 3.6apg, 1.8bpg, 1.4spg) both won Player Of The Month awards. Andrew Bogut (16.5ppg, 11.5rpg, 3.3apg, 1.8bpg, 1.3spg) and Deron Williams (16.8ppg, 2.5rpg, 6.2apg, 0.5bpg, 1.2spg) won Rookie OTM.
The leagues scoring races is as follows:
28.6 - Dirk Nowitzki
27.1 - Paul Pierce
26.9 - Kobe Bryant
26.3 - Steve Nash
Peja Stojakovic, former league leader in points per game, has dropped to 13th place (23.1ppg). Shawn Marion is 8th in the league in ppg (24.7ppg).

There is no sadder story than that of the Washington Wizards (1-15). Their record speaks for itself.

(note: I didn't put up graphics of the conference standings, league leaders or players of the month because my Kings only played 2 games this month and it was too close to the previous monthly overview. The next overview will be posted at the end of February.)

Suns burn the Kings

Postby Shing on Wed Apr 19, 2006 10:57 pm

(Sacramento (9-9) @ (15-2) Phoenix)
It is clear now who is the best team in the NBA, the Phoenix Suns never let Sacramento take a hold on tonights game. Even though the Kings were spared another 50point bashing by 'Nash and Co.', the likes of which had been dealt to Atlanta and Orlando recently, Sacramento never looked likely to overtake Phoenix who's style of play eclipsed that of the visiting Kings. It can be witnessed from the (special edition extended) highlights that Sacramento had to fight for every play they made and were rarely given free reign on their offensive plays like they're used to doing when Bibby and Marion connect. Player of the Game; Amare Stoudamire rejoiced in both offense and defense, collecting 5 blocks to go along with his 32 points and 13 boards. Steve Nash was 2 rebounds and 1 assist away from a mighty triple-double. The Suns are playing like champions, and most analysts tip them to be winners come the end of the season.
It wasn't a pretty homecoming for Shawn Marion, Raja Bell and Jermaine Jones, though the three of them were quite competent in their performance nonetheless, it can be clear to see from the point of view of any observer that perhaps Sacramento gave away too much in search of their star Power Forward back in November. It remains to be seen whether the trade will keep them alive enough to make the playoffs in April.

Amongst the highlights is an alley-oop from Nash at the top of the key to the awaiting Stoudemire which, in my opinion, is one of the best looking alley-oops I've seen and recorded all season. Amare connected on lots of plays, including the circus shot where Corliss Williamson fouled him but he somehow managed to make the points count and connect on a freethrow.

Phoenix demonstrated really good game with killing alley-oops.
Funny situation, when Bibby is laying on the ground and Nash intercepts his pass

After the drama of PHX vs SAC on Sunday, today's fixture brings the Kings back down to earth as they travel to face fellow mid-table mediocritees; the Milwaukee Bucks. Bucks high scorer Michael Redd will be the one to watch, there isn't really anybody suited to guarding him on the Kings except for Raja Bell.

Andrew Bogut is one of the leading challengers for Rookie of the Year averaging a double-double (15.0ppg, 10.8rpg)! Both teams tonight have strong frontcourts, Shawn Marion's rebounding has been down on his league-leading average the last two games and it will be interesting to see if he can continue the stellar form of the past 3 months.

Around the League on Friday the 10th of February: Analysis will once again begin with the league leading Phoenix Suns(16-2), who won again in Portland (PHX 93 - 77 POR) the day after beating the Kings on Sunday. The progress of ever-present Eastern giants the Detroit Pistons(17-5), on a 7 game winning streak, finally shows a team in the league worthy of challenging the Suns hegemony. In East in general there are five major competing teams making the East shape up nicely: Detroit(17-5), Philadelphia(15-6), Cleveland(13-6), New Jersey(11-5) and Miami (16-9) - who all occupy the 2nd to 6th places in the league as a whole, with the second placed West team; Dallas(11-6) in 7th.

Every single team in the NorthWest Division has a losing record. Seattle(7-8) heads the division but is more than halfway down the whole league standings, yet would still manage a playoff berth if it were the end of the season! The surprisingly poor form of the Denver Nuggets(6-12) who are placed 6th from the bottom of the league is bizarre considering their team on paper: Camby, Diogu, Anthony and Baron Davis.

This week I'll take a special look at the big-market teams: The Los Angeles Lakers(9-10) are in mid-table after a win vs Portland 2 weeks ago. New York are sure to get conspiracy theorists working with their 9-11 record, lol. I suppose the team doesn't have any of the problems that the Knicks have in real life and therefore they're not doing as badly. Chicago(3-12) picked up their third win against the Charlotte Bobcats(2-13) last week but are 3rd from bottom, just above the Bobcats and Wizards. Surprisingly the Celtics(10-7) are the highest placed big-market team, Paul Pierce is 2nd in the league scorers charts too!

The Wizards(1-15) play Boston(10-7) on the 14th Feb, hoping to pick up their first win in 16 games. Sacramento's next game after the Bucks will be against the Wizards.
