What happen to Dell Curry???

Tue Nov 12, 2002 1:20 pm

Last time I checked Dell Curry was a free agent but I thought Toronto Re-Signed him ...If they didnt then why the hell didnt they keep Clark ...

They lost three Freakin Free agents !!! and they lost Hakeem ..We going have some cash next year!

I don't think the Raptors knew Hakeem was going to retire when they could've resigned Clark, and they didn't want to get into Luxury tax land. But they were able to get Jelani McCoy which is an OK replacement until next season. Maybe they are looking to make a run and Olowkandi? Probably not but they could be

As for Dell Curry Toronto didnt resign him as far as I know

Mo' money, mo' problems

The problem is that the Raps still have Hakeem's salary on the ledger sheet, and even giving Clark a bit below fair market value would push them into the dreaded luxury tax zone. Remember, the Raptors are now owned by the Toronto Maple Leafs, a team that has spent the past 35 years designed to make the first round of the playoffs and not go a step further. They are the most profitable team in the NHL, and the "home team" for most of the league's top players, but never go that extra mile to sign a superstar or two to win a championship. The Raptors are definately second fiddle in this city. Do you really expect them to make a push after trading for a aged (that's a step beyond aging, folks) centre and over paying their power forward, his backup, and their 6'5" shooting guard who they have working the point? Keon was great for the highlight reels, but I've been to a couple dozen Raps games now and for every amazing dunk he had he's also dribbled off his own foot twice, passed to the wrong team three times, and scowled at his coach more times than you could imagine.
As you can tell, I am a very digruntled Raptors fan. I'm not a fan of Grunwald, et al. in the Raptors' management, but one good move they did was to not re-sign Dell Curry. I've loved the guy since he was the Hornets sixth man when they had Mugsy, Kendall Gill, LJ, and Zo, but he's over the hill, and now relaxing along side Tim Legler in the Craig Hodges home for guys who can shoot threes and not much else.
FYI, in about 5 years keep an eye out for Dell Curry's son. After warmups and before shoot around, when the court is clear, the little Curry, who looks about 9, would come out and in street clothes hit shots from everywhere. And I mean everywhere. i've seen the kid go 3 for 5 from half court. That kid can shoot!

Loved that Hornets teams

McBiggins, I loved that hornets team you mentioned [circa 1991] with the starting 5 consisting of:

Mourning
L. Johnson
Gill
J. Newman
Bouges
__________
Dell Curry
JR Reid
Kenny Gattison
David Wingate
Mike Gminski

They were classic over-achievers with Zo and LJ each contributing over 20ppg each. Mugsy even averaged 10 ppg and 9 assts per game. What a fun team to watch. Even the G-man  was getting into the action. If they had only kept those guys together a bit longer, they may have really been able to make a strong title run.

Best,

P

That has been the downfall of the Hornets - like the Clippers, they just let talent go. After letting LJ and Zo go, they had Rice, who had developed into a perennial All-Star. He was dealt during the lockout season for Eddie Jones, who was an All-Star the next season...then he was traded. The Hornets constantly seem to be building, then scrapping their plans and start building a different team.

Yeah, that Hornets team was great. I just couldn't remember who their other wing was. Johnny Newman, back when he could jump! The Tripuka era hornets were ass, but these guys were a lot of fun to watch. And didn't they also have a Young Scotty Burrell not too soon after that?

Yeah, Scott Burrell came along shortly after that, around 1993 I believe.

Lol, I've been to several games in the past and have thought the exact same thing, that kid is going to be good, plus he looks like he's going to be tall. He's sort of lanky but still well preportioned.

I just love how mature people can act sometimes.

After doing something completely idiotic they still seem to think they're the ones that are right.

As for Dell Curry, i remember hearing that he was working as part of the management for one of the teams, i can't remember which. Was it Atlanta, Cleavland? and yes, what a shooter he was.
