IS LIVE PUTTING THE NEW FRANCHISE BOBCATS IN ?

Mon Jun 23, 2003 12:36 pm

I WAS WONDERING IS LIVE PUTTING THE NEW FRANCHISE CHARLOTTE BOBCATS IN THE GAME.
I HOPE WE CAN CREATE COACHES TOO,WITH A CERTAIN STYLE OF PLAY.

Mon Jun 23, 2003 1:27 pm

The Bobcats won't be in NBA Live 2004, since they don't start play until the 2004/2005 season. There'll be in NBA Live 2005.

Also, please avoid posting in all caps. Thanks. :)

You know...doesn't matter really if they put them in...except for marv albert saying the name of the team. Someone is gonna make a high quality complete bobcats patch. Then someone else will add their coach into he game. Voila...bobcats in live 2004.

Mon Jun 23, 2003 4:33 pm

For that matter...I bet it won't be too long before we'll see the Bobcats in Live 2003 :D .

Mon Jun 23, 2003 5:02 pm

True. But since the Bobcats won't enter the NBA until 2004/2005, there's no immediate need for them in Live - so their omission from NBA Live 2004 will not be an error.

When The Houston Texans Were Going to be an expansion!!!!

Tue Jun 24, 2003 9:23 am

MADDEN ADDED THE THE TEXANS A YEAR BEFORE THEY ACTUALLY PLAYED.
I'm wondering are we going to get the same options as the computer LIVE 2004 I"m a PS2 owner :?: .Would love to create my own gear and patches

Tue Jun 24, 2003 12:39 pm

I'm just going by past NBA Lives. The Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies were confirmed a couple of years before they entered the league in the 1995/1996 season, but they did not appear until they were actually in the league. As I said, it would not be an error if the Bobcats are not included, since they won't be in the NBA for another season.

It will probably be some time before it is possible to patch graphics on the console versions of NBA Live, since you cannot write to the DVD. Apart from that, everything else should be the same (with the possible exception of the number of seasons in Dynasty Mode).

Yeah it's kind of hard to add a team that you have no idea about... You got the name and maybe the coach and managers and such, but with a completely empty roster. EA will certainly not start guessing who's gonna play for them.

They propably will not be included in Live 2004...

Tue Jun 24, 2003 9:41 pm

I'll go out on a limb and say they won't be in NBA Live 2004. EA isn't going to fill the roster with fake players, and they're not yet competing in the NBA, so it's really not necessary to have the Bobcats in Live.

So they get rid of the Charlotte Hornets and send them to New Orleans and now there will be a team called the Charlotte Bobcats??? Bobcats is a gridiron name...

And what was with the Vancouver Grizzlies being renamed?

:?

they moved out of vancouver...

...to memphis

Wed Jun 25, 2003 11:58 am

Ummmmm, Gee. I never would have guess that

WHY! Lack of money?

Wed Jun 25, 2003 1:31 pm

The owner of the Grizzlies (whose name escapes me) was losing money in Vancouver, so he sought and gained approval to move the team. There were a few possibilities, but Memphis ended up being the new home of the Grizz.

Wed Jun 25, 2003 1:40 pm

Is it just me or does the Memphis Grizzles not have that same ring... I don't like New Orleans Hornets.... Memphis Grizzles isn't as bad as New Orleans Hornets though...

Yeah...I actually thought that was pretty lame though...

Owner A wanted to move the team but David Stern held firm and wouldn't let him...so Owner A sold the team to Owner B...Owner B kept the team in Vancouver for 1 season and then David Stern flip flopped and let Owner B move the team to Memphis...I don't think Owner B ever intended to keep the team in Vancouver...and with a 1 season commitment in Vancouver he never lost that much money. Owner A lost money...but they did a lot of stupid things which led to that...like resigning Bryant Reeves to that huge contract

This is a sore spot with me...being from western Canada the Grizzlies were my team... :D

Michael Heisley (Heisly, maybe.) The guy who owns the Canucks (our hockey team) used to own the Grizz but sold them to Heisley who moved them to Memphis. DAMN YOU!!! But we wouldn't have been loosing money if we had a good team, and we would of has a good team if Stu Jackson didn't to such a crappy job at the GM. So this all stems down to Stu IMO.

Wed Jun 25, 2003 1:59 pm

What ever happend to Bryant Reeves? His haircut finally get the best of him

Wed Jun 25, 2003 3:03 pm

Michael Heisley, that's it.

Bryant Reeves retired due to a back injury.

Wed Jun 25, 2003 3:04 pm

Bryant Reeves dosen't play basketball anymore, citing his career-ending injury (his back, i believe). Although he dosen't play anymore, he still reeives money from the contract he signed. Similar to that of Hakeem Olajuwon, to the game and fans, they have retired but to the salary cap they haven't.

Wed Jun 25, 2003 3:16 pm

Yea Stu Jackson (here I go again) maxed him out after his top season of something like 16 and 9?!?!? Damn him.

Include also the deal that that sent Otis Thorpe to the Grizzlies in exchange for a future first round pick (hm..2003 first round pick).....and we all know who that pick is going to be.....

ah...if we could have only predicted the future....

:)

The problem here I believe is the same as with NHL... In Canada the teams have to pay much higher taxes then in USA and that's why it's harder to get good players to go to Canada because they cost more money then in the USA. And most of the players are USA natives and moving to another country is again a whole other thing then moving from one city to another.

NHL tries to keep their Canadian teams with any means neccecary, but the Canadian government has not been very cooperative with the asked tax cuts to lower costs to keep the teams in Canada. That's why slowly but sadly surely teams will drip from the north to the south... Winnepeg Jets, Vancouver Grizz... Who's next, no one knows...

It's all about the money...

And what comes to the Bobcats... Well I just thought of a pretty cool way to implement them into the Dynasty. You could play one year and then it would be time for the expansion draft... And do it in the dynasty as they do it in real life. They automatically get the first rookie draft pick and surely all that empty cap space would attract some players. It could really tip the balance after one season in dynasty.

I've actually thought of this in the past... We should get "random events" during the dynasty. Like a team moves town, new team enters league, career ending injuries, top rookie hype etc. etc. It would really bring the dynasty into a little bit more alive and it would just not be an excel spread sheet...

How are you so sure what live is going to implement.....?

Thu Jun 26, 2003 8:39 am

I've read about live through some sources and they say live is going to surprize alot of us.Some of these sources actually talked to live creators. So I'm wondering why Everyone is like it's not going to happen;when I ask questions? :(

Thu Jun 26, 2003 12:09 pm

Well, it's common sense that the Bobcats wouldn't be in NBA Live 2004 since they won't begin play until the 2004/2005 season. If they were included, it would be an empty team with no coach, since the Bobcats still don't really exist yet.

They could always be implemented as an expansion Franchise after the first year as Metsis suggested, but I'm skeptical as to whether they'd do that.

Fri Jun 27, 2003 7:10 am

They don't even have an official jersey out yet, so I doubt they'll even be considered for 2004.
