Asserted rolemodels

That reminds me...I wonder which video game, television show, movie or song/artist will be made the scapegoat this time?

That quote made me think.

Now we've all heard the dumb (mostly christian) organizations that perpetrate this and that as horrible rolemodels that corrupt and destroy the youth of yesterday and today. I grew up idolizing Bill Hicks, and I still do. And yet I haven't turned into a drug addict, stand-up (even though I'm funny as hell) or a cynical bastard spreading the evil taint of pointing out stupidity. The last bit might be true, but let's leave that aside.

Anyway, Hicks got called both this and that. Aswell as blamed for corrupting the youth. And yet - I turned out fine-ish.

But what are the postitive and asserted rolemodels that are ok to follow?

The presidents? Cheating Clinton and Right-wing fucks Bush's?
Actors? The same ones that find scientology a fun fact?
Musicians? The same ones that proclaim how great it is to "smack that ass"?

Meh.

Who are the positive and asserted rolemodels?

(hopefully one or maybe three of you will understand what the hell I'm on about)

These days it's hard to find a good role model.

A few years ago we used to have role models, these days, we have the internet.

A lot of athletes used to be role models to a lot of children a few years back, now days, with information being so easy to obtain, we know things about our favorite athletes/actors/musicians we might have been better without.

I have no role model, that's probably the biggest reason I'm the way I am.

Well i think i understand you.
In my opinion you can have a rolemodel like (Manson or etc.).There's no need for you to act like him ,maybe because in real life he doesn't act this way.The one thing that matters about a rolemodel is how a person makes a image of his rolemodel.Because a person can make a positive image of his rolemodel or he can make a negative image.
I will take a two of my classmates and explain how i think:
-one listens to rock and he is so into rock that he is dressing like a rock star, acting like one
-there is one kid in my class that listens to death metal and he is acting normal,he dresses normal and everything

The point is.How do you make a image off a rollmodel is important, not how the rollmodel acts.

To be honest, I don't think there are very many positive role models that are celebrities or just simply famous out there. I think somebody, ironically, that were spiritual leaders like Mother Teresa, Jesus, or Ghandi, are positive role models. All in all, I think it's very important that mothers and fathers should pose as realistically one of the only role models in a person's life.

I used to ponder about that a lot asking myself questions like "did having no role model made me the horrible person I am now." I gave it a lot of thought until I realized to just screw that and live my life the way I think it's right.

A person doesn't need a role model IMO. A person just needs to distinguish what is right and wrong, which unfortunately is different among people.

Agreed. And people that are of other religions should be more tolerant of other religions and recognize that spiritual leaders of other religions can still teach you great things. Nothing bugs me more than someone who refuses to even hear about another religion. If I had the time (and will power) I'd love to go through (or at least learn quite a bit about) the various books of faith.

I think the best role model is just an everyday person that you admire. If you don't have a role model you can really model yourself after some traits that are found in some of your favorite people (athletes or whatever) but you don't excatly have you model yourself after them, just on one or two specific things about them. Do you get what I'm saying?

I have my everyday role models that I look up to and admire but then I also have a few athletic role models where I model myself after a few personal traits of theirs. I love Garnett's worth ethic and passion for the things he does and I also love Mark Madsen's willingness to do anything and be a part of the team.

In all honesty, I don't think there's a single group that could be considered positive role models in every example. Parents in general come close but there's lot of people who have kids and are setting a bad example through being inattentive, violent or have problems with substance abuse.

I have to agree with Riot, perhaps the best approach is to adopt certain traits from several role models rather than emulating a particular person - famous or otherwise - to the letter.

I have hard-working no-nonsence type friends that i respect hugely. They were my role models during my last year of school. My dad is my musical role model. I respect his opinions about music and he's a LORD on the guitar. My mum is my role model in life's choices. The best role models are everyday people that you can relate to.

He's a mother.

He's a grown man.
He's a child.

Besides, he's friends with Elizabeth Taylor, does that woman have a rape-able body or what?
