[ MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) ] -- After falling one game short of the NBA Finals last season, the Miami Heat have reloaded. Only time will tell whether Stan Van Gundy's squad is overloaded.

The Heat rode superstars Shaquille O'Neal and Dwyane Wade to a 59-23 mark last season before injuries and a lack of depth caught up with them in the playoffs, which ended for Miami in Game Seven of the Eastern Conference Finals with a disappointing home loss to Detroit.

However, president Pat Riley added talent around O'Neal and Wade, including veteran guard Gary Payton, a nine-time All-Star, and erratic forward Antoine Walker, a three-time All-Star. Other newcomers to South Beach include forward James Posey and guard Jason Williams, both of whom came over from Memphis in a massive five-team trade, the largest in NBA history.

It remains to be seen if there will be enough shots to go around for the Heat. They appear to be a near-lock to win the Southeast Division, but they have a bigger prize in mind - their first ever championship.

Meanwhile, Memphis isn't quite at that level yet. The Grizzlies have made the playoffs the last two seasons only to be swept out of the first round on each occasion.

After finishing 45-37 in 2004-05, Memphis allowed forward-center Stromile Swift to leave via free agency, but replaced him with high-flying dunk artist Hakim Warrick, the team's first-round pick.

President Jerry West, who signed a contract extension Monday, also added veteran guards Damon Stoudamire, Eddie Jones and Bobby Jackson in the offseason to a team that still features Pau Gasol but would love to see the 2001 Rookie of the Year raise his game to another level.

Memphis has won its last three home meetings with Miami.
