If you haven't seen Hurricane Katrina (and I presume you haven't), then how do you know it happened? You look at the aftermath ie. the wreckage.
If a tree falls in the woods etc.

You, me, and everyone else will agree that there are four circles there, of course. But what if you had typed inPHX4LIFE wrote:O O O O
how many circles are there?

O O O
and EVERYONE agreed that there were 6 circles there? Or what if a person had been born & raised to call the number 4 "eighteen," sort of like what Cyanide was saying was going on in 1984...
Basically, how do you think a person can you really know that they're right? About anything- physically, morally, etc…

I agree...that's interesting, huh? I believe you're onto somethingCyanide wrote:It's kinda scary to be put into a world where there is no absolute truth in terms of materialism and in anything that can be arbitrary. The only truth that I can see is in a few intangibles, such as love, for example.

lets shoot you in the back of the head and you can find out.

The earth's shape isn't changing, right? So although humans may not be able to agree on and prove that it is a certain shape, it is a certain shape. So basically there's got to be truth out there.

RAPE RAPE, OH RAPE. GOD HELP ME. HE'S GONNA FOLLOW HIS ROLE MODEL. Lay off, don't you have a life?
It was actually a long process that came up a few times, and of course, the main character could not come to be convinced at all until near the ending, where O'Brien used rhetoric and convincing skill that finally got the main character to see how 2 + 2 = 5. It was crazy, because it even got to me and I could finally see how 2 + 2 = 5. It's just those numbers are so arbitrary, that I could see it was just a form that was assigned a code. I think the way I saw it was that 4 was switched with 5. Four is actually '5,' and five is actually '4.' Make sense?
