players gaining weight and height

Thu Jun 19, 2003 10:00 am

i think that would be nice feature in live especially for some of the younger players coming into the league

Thu Jun 19, 2003 10:05 am

Then a rookie could be a Shawn Kemp. That's be just great. J/K it's a great idea that will never show up because EA is dumb. :x

Thu Jun 19, 2003 10:07 am

Yeah, maybe... Not so much height because that will pretty much always be that or around what it is.
Having training camps in a LIVE game would be ok, and weight could change on the amount of training they do and don't do...

But at the moment you can change weight manually anyway... Height will always pretty much remain the same, Unless some 16 year old comes into the league... 18 and over have tended to stop growing, if only an Inch or so.. Which doesn't matter as much.

i mean mainly weight something like garnett like player enter at 220 but as he becones a vet he gain weigh or someone needing to gain weight

Thu Jun 19, 2003 10:55 am

Yeah it qould be a cool automated feature, along with training camps so you could oversea who does what (and not have random occurances over off season) but then you would have to have muscles as well, (or strength as it is) change, because the player could get stronger, and gain weight from gaining muscle, or stronger/weaker from gaining fat...

Thu Jun 19, 2003 12:14 pm

I think it's a must, the ability to gain weight. The scouting report for some generated rookies will list "needs to add bulk" as one of the weaknesses - it would be great if this could actually happen.

Thu Jun 19, 2003 12:58 pm

Yeah as an automated thing it would be good. But you have to take in what it means... A player can gain weight out of being lazy and getting fat, or working out and gaining muscle...

It would have to be up to you to train them.

Thu Jun 19, 2003 1:01 pm

True. Through any means, it would be good to actually have players bulk up as suggested in their scouting report.

Thu Jun 19, 2003 1:07 pm

But would you be willing to train them up in Offseason Camps and things... Have them hit the weights and things...

How would the go about that... Writei options about what you want the player to do...?

Thu Jun 19, 2003 1:15 pm

That might be one of the mini-games the IGN preview alluded to.

Thu Jun 19, 2003 1:20 pm

Ahhh, Now you're onto something;)

Thu Jun 19, 2003 3:21 pm

If that was the case there should be a work ethic rating too to make sure a mini karl malone didn't turn into Shawn Kemp.

Thu Jun 19, 2003 5:37 pm

The idea is good but if thats implented there will definately go something wrong with it, cuz i dont think its the intention this becomes some sort of pokémon to train your "beast" and become the superstar player he could be, and knowin' ea with all its extremes... . Though it would be cool as a gm in an off season mode to look at every player and you could make a choice(like and per offseason)and make him improve(you shouldnt really train it yourself), and than judging his A-B...-F pack of improving he could improve a lil a that area, lets say one or two points better, so it wouldnt be a drastic change comparing to live but instead of going forward at random areas just at the specific you have ordered, i really like that idea :) . But also if a player has a bad developing packet, like a D or something he stats wouldnt go up or maybe he could just keep the same level in stead of dropping. Just my humble opinion :)

Obviously not every player would increase or decrease in weight. It would have to be controlled by his CAREERPKG or a similar kind of rating else it would be too random, and more importantly, too easy. But a player with a lot of potential who is "willing" to improve should have a good chance of dedicating himself to adding muscle or losing weight.

Thu Jun 19, 2003 8:39 pm

That'd be a nice addition. I would want Kwame Brown and Brendan Haywood to add some more muscle.

Thu Jun 19, 2003 11:54 pm

Too bad we don't have any direct contacts here... I'd Love to meet Alonzo Mourning...

And in another thread, someone said something about Jeff Van Gundy and Ron Artest doing something to Zos leg... What was that about?

Fri Jun 20, 2003 11:52 am

I forget the specifics, but it was during an altercation in one of the Knicks/Heat games a few years back.

Fri Jun 20, 2003 12:38 pm

No one gets away with that!

Ron Artest never played for the Knicks then?
Or Was it just Van Gundy?

Fri Jun 20, 2003 12:58 pm

Artest has never played for the Knicks, only the Bulls and now the Pacers. I think it was just Van Gundy who was involved in an incident with Zo (along with Knicks players) and the Heat - although there might have been an altercation with Artest that I've forgotten.

that much detail won't be brought into the game until like the year 2060.

it may come at year 2005.you dont need good graphics do do exercises

Ok, I'm probably going off on a slightly different tangent here, but if u can change player weights, why not positional changes too?
I can imagine the comments to come, "there'd be extreme changes like from PG to PF" and that sort of thing. But something really should be done. In Live 2003, there arent that many really good centres or point guards that are generated. Most CPU teams would be better served playing Power Forwards or Shooting Guards out of Position (see Theo Ratliff, Ben Wallace, whoever it was playing point in Denver last year, Ron Harper on the Bulls title teams).
It's the best solution, rather than sticking with someone like Ratko Varda in the paint or a different second round rookie point guard, rated 61 overall every season

Thu Jun 26, 2003 9:31 pm

That's a good idea too. It's something that we human players can do quite easily, change a player's position in Edit Player, but CPU teams should do it too wherever appropriate. It's something that could also occur with player development. A big point guard with so-so playmaking skills but a great ability to score could become a shooting guard.

As I said, this is a change a human player would make but one that CPU teams do not. It would be a nice touch, and add a bit of realism too.

Thu Jun 26, 2003 10:48 pm

Yeah, I hate seing computer teams that don't start stars... I mean, if you have a player better than another in one position, they will start that person and select another main position holder... I Mean, A primary PF rated 73 will start at PF before a secondary one rated 93... CPU needs to be smarter all around...

And Jason Kidd... That Block by both Robinson and Duncan is good, especially on someone like Jefferson... Who would get credit for that block??? Duncan would most likely foul in that scenario wouldn't he???
