THERE'S TALK OF AN OWNER MODE LIKE MADDEN 2004.....I HOPE WE GET ALL THE SUMMER LEAGUES AND BE ABLE TO DRAFT THOSE SUMMER LEAGUE STREETBALLERS...IF WE DON'T GET THE DUNK CONTEST A DUNK EDITER WOULD BE JUSTICE UNTIL IT HAPPENS.!!![/b]

Dynasty Mode is supposed to feature mini-games, but I don't think it will feature a summer league. I feel pretty safe in saying there won't be a dunk editor in NBA Live 2004 - there's no really a need for one, though it would be nice to customise the dunk packages (so you could a player mostly one-handed dunks, for example).

Aint it also said that u could work out with your player so he gets better(or was that just a dream  )?
Dunno but if that feature is included and it aint very well made than it could b possible with a lot of training to turn your 73'er in a 95'er or in other words turn your vin baker in a shaquille :!: :?:

The idea of a dunk editor sounds okay, but would probably be really hard to add to the game, but like Andrew said, a editable feature of dunking style; one-handed, two-handed, powerful, athletic, that'd be great, cuz I hate seeing Kobe or anyone else for that matter doing 360's in traffic. That gives me an idea, a dunk editor in which you can edit the style of dunks in traffic and fast breaks or perhaps traffic dunk ratings. If a player has like 84 in that category then he's likely to slam in traffic, but if he has a 71 rating then he's more likely to make a lay-up. I dunno.

A summer league would be a great feature. This way you could decide which players start and which players get what position in the rotation, or you could even cut players off the team cuz they're not good enough. I dunno if this should be something manual; you control the players yourself in the summer league or that it would be a simulation type of thing; you can cumstomize your team by the players' ratings and how those develop during the summer.

anyhow, this is all daydreaming.

On dunking in traffic: I personally think it would just be better to make dunks in traffic more difficult and generic (no 360s and windmills) as a rule. Only the athletic and/or taller players would be able to dunk on people frequently.

Thought of an idea for the dunk comp. A seperate dunk editor. Each player with dunk and flash ratings over 90 could have 4 or 5 preset ultra-fancy dunks that they perform in real life. An editor could be shipped with the game that allows users to kinda select paritcular actions (ball through legs with right hand, behidn back with left hand, summersault, etc) and set what distance the player should jump from to complete it, (e.g. free throw line, 3pt line, 12 feet) and juggle different types of moves together to create one 'supermove' so to speak (e.g. behind the back and 360 etc). The total difficulty (i.e. the sum of the difficulty ratign for each move) along with the players dunk and jump ratigns, could detrmine the chance of the dunk being successful.

The editor could ask you to design 5 dunks for e.g., and then when you start the competition and you player is up, you could get a list of the created dunks, and be asked to choose which to attempt. If the players dunk/jump ratings arent high enough, or if the dunk is inhumanly hard, it should miss, otherwise is should make it. The harder the difficulty rating of the dunk, the more points awarded. The player that gets the highest scores is champion.

Another option could also allow the more talented and technicaly advanced users to create and name their own moves and subsequent animations from imagination, and set the dunks difficulty. This means a player coudl set difficulty low and make it every time, but would get little points, or set it huge, and get massive points, but always miss, thus not really allowing easy cheating.

They could even maybe include teamate dunks and let the player chosse a team-mate from their team to be involved. The player dunks could be set soemwhat like a path based system, or waypoint system, plotted running paths to make teh dunk successful and a set optimal jump distance, so the player has to try to keep to that particular path to have a good chance of success.

What you guys think?

give us dunk editor ,yoll see how many realistic dunkt i can add

Tue Jun 17, 2003 10:39 am

Not a bad idea crimson, a variation on the other dunk contest method (button combination/freestyle to perform different dunks). It's not unfeasible to create a new animation - I've played wrestling games where you can create a taunt by stringing together different animations. Thus, it would be possible to create a dunk editor, though I don't think it's likely we'll get one, especially if there isn't a dunk contest. After all, there wouldn't be as much need for one.

A DUNK EDITOR CAN BE DONE

Wed Jun 18, 2003 8:41 am

IF A CRAPPY GAME LIKE SHOOTOUT CAN MAKE A DUNK CREATOR I KNOW LIVE CAN.LIVE IS FAR SUPERIOR THAN SHOOTOUT IN EVERY ASPECT.
I HOPE WE CAN PUT THE PAST CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS IN A SEASON MODE SEEING HOW GOOD THEY WOULD DO AGAINST TODAYS TEAMS IN A SEASON.

And being dunked on shouldn't knock you away and you take of a stupid mid air pose... You should cringe then land, and shake your head or something at being slammed on... I hate knocking people over when I dunk...

And Dunk need to be able to be blocked more... They are too hard to block in Live 2k3 and result in fouls too much...

A dunk editor is quite feasible, but perhaps not necessary. I don't think it will be in NBA Live 2004, but could very well be in a future version of Live.

We may not be able to do it through an option in the game (then again, we might), but I'm sure it would be possible through DBF editing.

I agree, this is one area where blocks could stand to be improved - layups and dunks. Don't make them too common, of course, but it should be easier to block a layup than a jumpshot - though an attempt to block a jumpshot should affect the shot.

Wed Jun 18, 2003 2:38 pm

And the blocker shouldn't go for direct contact.. He should jump to the side or something like that....

I hate when they lay up and just glide right past because you have either jumped right out the way or swung with the wrong hand:o

Jump shots should be hard to block, and they shouldn't be swatted away (unless they are too easy) and they shouldn't make the shot more likely to go in...
If a player shoots while you are at the peak of you jump, ANYWHERE in front of them, it goes in;)

Wed Jun 18, 2003 2:46 pm

I've noticed that too. Aside from the unrealistic swats that go back to half court (or back to the other baseline), most of the blocks just aren't intelligent - players aren't even going for the ball, they're just swatting wildly.

Wed Jun 18, 2003 2:54 pm

Yea, If you jump when you're near a player you'll jump forward.. You don't jump at them and try swat unless you are facing them... All needs tweaking

Wed Jun 18, 2003 3:00 pm

Players should basically be going for the ball, not just swatting and hoping they manage to bat the shot away. I think improved blocking physics will be part of NBA Live 2004, since the E3 previews have all said it's more realistic overall.

Wed Jun 18, 2003 5:46 pm

Yes lets hope "More Realistic Overall" means More Lifelike

Wed Jun 18, 2003 5:58 pm

I would assume it does. The addition of sliders should also give us greater control over the realism as well.

Wed Jun 18, 2003 6:11 pm

What do yous mean by sliders?? I have a general idea, but what will they be on, and what will they control?

Wed Jun 18, 2003 6:21 pm

There will be sliders for field goals, steals, etc. These sliders will be used to toggle the gameplay eg realistic FG% for a more realistic game, or a high FG% for an arcade-ish kind of game. Same with steals. You will also be able to control the game speed this way. A normal, realistic pace, or a faster paced, arcade-ish kind of game.

Wed Jun 18, 2003 7:05 pm

Sounds great.. Sounds very very great. May make this game almost handleable;)

Wed Jun 18, 2003 7:10 pm

sure. slider s help to customize block frequency, but i don´t think that you´ll be able to change the type of block type. if ea still makes the shot-block a just "swat-it-away"-type of block it´ll still be annoying especially on jump shots. i think it should be able to decide whether to just challenge to shot or try to block one. i think the take charge feature could also be used to challenge a shot without blocking. the defensive player raises his hand(s) towards the face/ball and it should effect (depending on the distance between off. & def. player) the probability of the shot going in. in live 2003 when defending on the perimeter, i sometimes stood right on the shooter´s feet and he still connected on several treys. it´s just discouraging when you´re playing tight d and it seems to have not the slightest impact on the outcome of the shot.

Wed Jun 18, 2003 7:18 pm

I know what you mean.. When you have aplayer who can jump higher than you stand, it has to intimidate you into changing your shot...

Plus they should also have a change shot button... I mean you see a sure fire block, you don't just shoot the ball into their hand, you change the shot, or hold it longer or pass it off...

I hate that about NBA 2003... The CPU teamates HOLD their shot until they are on the way down, which reduces the chance of going in... Epecially when you have drawn their player out an dthey are open.. there player gets back quick and swats it...

They need player controlled PICKS too... If you press "take Charge" on offense your teamate shoots...

So many gripes...

Icebane wrote:They need player controlled PICKS too... If you press "take Charge" on offense your teamate shoots...

exactly, i´d like to see more picking in general. when i call isolation the players on the other side should still try to get free.

when playing in player lock mode, i´d like to have the option to see my player. i sometimes like to play season mode, draft a rookie. when i like this guy i like to play with player lock. but after you´ve scored a basket and you go to the defensive end, it´s hard to guard your man, because you can´t see what´s going on since the camera stays with the ball that is being brought up by the 1-guard. sometimes i´m way off my man and the cpu takes advantage of it. that makes player lock less attractive and realistic.

Wed Jun 18, 2003 8:19 pm

It would be good if they brought back the Call for a Pick button. Calling the pick and roll is effective, but you don't always want your teammate to roll to the basket.

i really think sliders are a good thing :D . But i just wanna say, evrybody complaining about the high shooting % but honestly i dont mind that much though, ok ok 70-75% is insane but if they make 50-60% of their shots, i kind of like that u know, always missing, yuk :P , guess im a bad loser  . Its mainly the gamepace that should slow down and less fast breaks, but most of all less 3-pt rains, but we gonna have to wait and c
