Part 3 - Damn Those Cocky Aussies

“Hey Montgomery, you back at the Oak yet?” Mullin called from his cell phone as his private jet flew over the Pacific Ocean.
“Yeah, I got back yesterday, what’s taking so long? The kids I got, great kids, great skills. They’ve really pleased the owner so far with their shooting and mature-ness. What do you got?” asked Montgomery.
“Well, picked up some good kids at Australia, you know Brisbane? They’ve got some good talent there. I then headed to the Philippines, and then went over to Bangkok, Thailand, you know where that is? Yeah you do. I am so tired, really looking forward to getting home and back on my bed to sleep for a week.”
“Haha, you wish Chris. We got 3 days until the start of preseason; we don’t have time for sleep. Hopefully those other assistant coaches and whatnot get back soon so we can get the team together and catch up!”
“Alright Mont, I’ll bring probably be back within an hour or two, these guys are shaking with excitement of coming to the U.S. and playing pro ball, how many chances do you have in your life when a NBA GM shows up at your door and personally invites you to play for his team. Well, see you.” Mullins replied.

After hanging up the phone, Mullin turned around and scanned the people behind him. There were a total of 8 people. The first one was a balding man, looked about in his mid-20’s, he had a silly grin on his face, so you could not tell whether he was happy or scared. Sitting across from him was a young looking, skinny kid with somewhat spiky hair. Behind them was a tall man, also looks like he is in his mid-20’s, he was the tallest person on the team besides Mullin, and from what Mullin has heard, he will most likely remain the tallest. Across from him sat a Chinese looking kid, the shortest on the team, but this kid was actually of Chinese descent, but born in Australia. He was sleeping, but even sleeping he had a somewhat of a cocky grin on his face. The next set were two clean cut men, both dressed in the colors of their national basketball team, yellow and green. At the back of the plane sat a extremely pale kid with messy hair and a skinny, deeply tanned kid with usher-styled sunglasses.

“These kids better be able to show the league what they can do, or we’re all screwed”. Thought Mullin as he turned around to try and catch some sleep before the flight landed.

Hours Later…

“Yo old man!” called the short Asian looking Australian kid, “this is the where we practice or something? How come it looks so shitty?”
“You know the situation, we’re short on money in this franchise, but you’re not brought here to be worry about money, you’re here because we are going to make you guys into proper NBA players. We’ll be meeting the owner and the other two players in a couple minutes, so shut your mouth and be polite…And I ain’t old.” Mullin replied.

Several minutes later the bus arrived at the Warriors practice facility and the players took their first step into NBA stardom. Inside the gym there was already a old looking dude, who was directing a short Chinese kid and a skinny, but lean black kid in a series of drills.

“Hey Mont! Check out what I’ve got here!” Mullins shouted. “Let me introduce them! When I went to Australia I picked up Will Sit and Ben Branch, the best of their positions in Brisbane, I also got Robert Skrnjug and Andrew Watson, Zac Musoulis and Mark Moore, each has their own strength that made me feel good about them, you know? Now over here we got Mikki Dela Rea from the Phillipines and here’s Sam Anurak of Thailand.”
“Ha, so many of those Aussies, this is certainly a universal team. How’s it feel to be the only American dude on the team, Desmond?” Montgomery asked.
“Better to represent my country and prove that I am the best of course. I’ll be the perfect example of showing them the American style of basketball.” Jackson responded.
“Now now, let’s not get into too hot of an argument. We’re only in training camp, no need to call out who’s captain or whatnot. Each of you, when I call your name, get your butt on the floor! I want to see what you can do! First, Anurak!” belted out Montgomery.

Image Image

Sam Anurak was born in Bangkok, Thailand, and though he plays basketball for VMC High School in Canada, at the time he was in Thailand, thus Mullin was able to track him down there. He is a exceptional point guard/shooting guard, extremely selfless and probably will be a co-captain. Though only around 5’8’’ he is extremely fast and flexible. He has a very good midrange shot and his ball handling skills and offensive awareness are tops in Canada and of course Thailand and Southeast Asia. He has that quick first step that can leave you kissing the floor. Anurak should and will be one of the leaders with his superior play and his love of the game.

Image Image

The tallest man on the team at 6’7’’, he will most likely start at power forward or center. He has exceptional rebounding skills and is truly a team leader, most likely candidate for captain of the team. He has had many years of basketball experience and is very mature. He played in college and club in Australia, but this now is his moment to finally step out of the obscurities of club into the NBA. His young teammates will look to him for guidance and example.

Image Image

William Sit is probably the most arrogant and egotistical player that Australia has every produced. Despite being so high about himself, he certainly has the talent. Though he only stands at 5’7, he is extremely fast and tough, battling everything until the last second. When we say everything, we mean everything, on the plane back to Oakland, Sit and Mark Moore got into a figure over the last piece of strawberry cake, until finally Moore decided to give up and let Sit have it. He’s a troublemaker, but if he can direct his energy towards basketball, he will be an exception point guard.

Image Image

Andrew Watson is not tall, standing only at 6’2’’, but he and Branch are the oldest on the team, both being 25 years old. “X”, as Sit is now calling him, looks far beyond his age, but his game certainly is not. He is probably near the peak of his playing career, and despite playing center and power forward while being undersized, Watson still managed to hold his own. Watson however has somewhat of a drinking problem, in fact all the Australian players do, and this might be a problem as they need to crack down on the drinking.

Image Image

Mark Moore brings up the image of Jason Williams of the heat when you look at him. Both are near the same build and height, and playing style as well. Moore is extremely fast, and his awareness of the court earned him medals in many categories back in his homeland. His jump-shot is probably the purist on the team, but he is still lacking in the defensive department and will have to work some. He is an exceptional worker and learning the American system should be no sweat. Note: He also smells like roses.

Image Image

While playing back home, Zac split time between the forwards and guards positions, though he seemed more comfortable as a forward. He is a physical player, and knows when and how to box people out and play defense. A great thinker, he has also proclaimed himself the muscle of the team, willing to take on anyone who disses his or his teammates.

Image Image

Robert Skrnjug was chosen by Mullin due to his extremely raw talent. He could do it all during the several games with his club team, the Dolphins. They may sound cuddly, but Skrnjug made his opponents fear his team so bad that one opposing player wet himself while in an aquarium and saw a dolphin. Skrnjug is a little bit of a do-it-all player, he is also cocky, but that cockiness will only make him want to improve his game.

Image Image

Mikki Dela Rea, self proclaimed Usher. Dela Rea is the type of player that isn’t afraid to take it to the hole. His playing style is exactly like his idol, Lebron James, and he shares the same position as well. He has James’ slashing style of play, the pull-up jump shot, and sheer athleticism and cockiness. This team seemed to be filled with cocky players, which will make for some interesting playing.

“Alright guys! That’s enough shooting and whatnot for today, good progress; I think we have a good enough team. We’ve got less time to mold together, and we are still missing…”

Montgomery was cut off as the doors slammed shut. Montgomery turned around to see four people walk towards him, with his fellow assistant coaches behind them.

“Finally he thought, our team is completed… now we can get down to business.”

I'm really getting drilled in all these dynasties  saying I'm balding is a little harsh  I have high widow's peaks....my dad has real high ones at mid 50's but still has a head of hair....it's hereditary....it hasn't actually gotten any worse in the last year or so, so that's alright....you make me sound like I'm George off Seinfeld or something  also, I think I look my age, I don't think I look 30 at all :x

honestly, I still don't think my bball potential has been met yet, I think I still have limited upside, my ceiling will probably be reached in a few years I'd say....& you just have to train up my conditioning & the rest will follow :P just keep my away from all those groupies, my gf won't like that at all  she already gets jealous when girls try to chat me up :D

hey, can you make my body more chunky....I'll need it when I battle the likes of Shaq

at least I got that "X" on my headband, makes everything alright :P
