Raptors' new coach

Postby Andrew on Fri Jun 13, 2003 2:51 pm

Raptors expect to hire new coach by next week

The Raptors have narrowed their search to four candidates who have all worked in the league as assistant coaches but have never been head coaches. Kevin O'Neill of the Detroit Pistons is believed to be the front runner and is joined on the list by Dwane Casey of the Seattle SuperSonics, Mike Woodson of the Philadelphia 76ers and Sam Mitchell of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Any predictions?

Yeah, just a little too early for Brown to leave Detroit. :)

I thought Rick Carlisle might be in the running for the Toronto job...or has he been linked to the Clippers?

Of course they know what they're doing as an assitant coach, but some do better than others when they become the main main.

The Raptors had a pretty low buget for their new coach, because they're on the hook for Wilkins' $5 million.
From what I've read I think O'Neill will do fine. Grunwald definately made a very big job out of finding a new coach, having had up to 30 candidates.

Seems like it will indeed be O'Neill:

O'Neill likely to become Raptors coach next week
