Derrick Coleman's future

Now, that the Pistons have revealed Larry Brown as their new headcoach, the Detroit News begin to speculate about the fututre of summer-free-agent Derrick Coleman. It's obvious, that the Pistons could benefit from some more rebounds. They also lack presence in the low-post. Sure, Coleman could provide some rebounds(7.00 this season) and is quite strong in the low post. But isn't it a bit of a risk signing DC? Okay, he was one of the best PF's in the last decade, who, on a good day, still can make the difference in a game. But if you talk about Derrick Coleman, you have to talk about him being an injury prone, who also has problems with his weight. In conclusion, i consider it to be too much of a risk to sign DC, especially, if you have Darko Milicic waiting for you to draft him.

I don't think DC is such a bad investment these days. He never lived up to his potential, but he's still a good post presence, especially for an Eastern team. The Pistons could probably benefit from acquiring Coleman, though he seems better suited to a starting role. If they choose to bring him off the bench, they might as well not have him at all.

yeh coleman would be a risk i think. this season coleman was 'uncoleman-like' and played through his injuries and wasn't a team cancer. i think a lot of that has to do with Lbrown. it would make sense if DC was going to sign with another team, it would be with a Lbrown coached team. i don't know how much this guy is asking for but if the pistons have the cash to get him at a fair price, i would go for it. they sure need a post presence

Perhaps I've been fooled by the "new" Derrick Coleman, but I think he might finally understand the reality of the situation, and made a commitment to playing up to expectations (which are now considerably lower, thus easier to achieve ).

I remember often reading back in the mid-90s that Derrick Coleman was potentially one of the best players in the NBA, especially at his position, but he just wouldn't dedicate himself to living up to that potential. Watching him play back then, it was obvious he was talented, and his numbers show a decent player. But he was expected to become so much more.
