I only want two things for Live 2004

Postby maltre on Sat May 24, 2003 4:47 am

- Better offseason (= signing of free agents. I hate it when GS or the Lakers sign 3-4 80+ players for 30,000. We need contract negotiations, sign and trades, mid level exceptions ... INTERACTION WITH THE PLAYERS !!)

- Realistic gameplay. No more 20+ point comebacks from the opponent, no more 40+ point games by Derek Fisher

The dynasty mode looks promising, but please ... these two things really made me hate live 2k3 ...

Well they kinda mentioned improvements in those areas. Try the other threads which feature previews. :)

I think we're all in agreement Maltre. The previews suggest that with NBA Live 2004, that's what we'll be getting (perhaps not everything you said about free agency and negotiations - though we don't know just how deep Dynasty Mode is yet). I think there's enough reason to remain optimistic at this point. :)

I think Maltre meant fewer frequent and unlikely comebacks. Live 2003 has a tendency to allow the CPU to make a comeback due to a barrage of unlikely three pointers all too often.

Yeah, a 10 point lead with 1 minute left is not safe in this game.

I'd like in game injuries, I remember when I first played Inside Drive 2002 for the x box, Kenyon Martin got injured and just lied there on the floor holding his ankle--the play on the court didn't stop till there was a pause in the game. I thought that was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a basketball game.

I'm not asking for that, but I'd like to see players get injured after a hard foul or a drive to the basket. Nobody gets injured in this game, and I hope they decorate the bench with plyers wearing suits when they are injured, or warmups, or a white shirt with a gold medallion or something. I love how the bench reacts to the play on the court.

I have high hopes for this game and can't wait for more news to leak. Andrew, will you be doing another interview with Tim this year?

Yeah, I'm familiar with CPU Assist, but I never play with that option On, yet I still experience the comebacks. Fortunately, if you play carefully, you can hold them off.

Andrew, will you be doing another interview with Tim this year?

Possibly. If so, I'll try to do it before the release. I haven't spoken to Tim about an interview yet - a lot of people didn't seem to like last year's interview, and considered it worthless, uninformative and I believe one comment suggested either the questions or answers were "patronising". Obviously, if I do another interview, I want to make it worthwhile.

I think Andrew that you should go for the interview... You should try and pry out some more facts on the dynasty mode. It seems to have gone over quite a few changes and all info on that will be greatly appreciated.

And maybe you could try out the E3 version to really tell us how it plays and shows. Or something like that... Any third party preview has some of the glory crumbled when we don't know how much the previewer has played the NBA games before.

And I find interviews always intresting to read. There are some notions that can be read between lines, well always. You get a feel for what the team is feeling etc.

Just go for it dude...

Given my location (Australia), I doubt I'd get an early version of Live 2004. Actually, as a hosted member of the GameSpy network, I could have attended E3, but I would have had to pay my own way there, so it wasn't exactly feasible.

I'll talk to Tim, and if an interview is going to take place, I'll ask the community for suggestions regarding questions.

That'd be great, although it would seem too early in development right now? But maybe sometime in July would be a good time for that interview.
Sounds good Andrew.

what i really hate in this years game is when superstars are signed to a minimum contract. For example, in my 2nd season duncan becomes a FA, no team signed him and then when i was playing isaw him in seattle with a minimum salary.(N)

I wish, (ala Madden) the player's agent did the talking--like my client wasn't happy with his playing time or my client would like to finish his career here if the price is right--or something like that.

I feel that we will have a solid frachise/dynasty mode if:
1.they add trading draft picks
2.fix the minimum free agents contracts
3.work out the upcoming rookies (pre-draft)
4.extend player's contracts mid season and not always after the season
5.team chemistry meter

Yes, it's too early for it now. I don't think Tim would be able to give us much more information than what is provided by the E3 previews. I'll keep everyone informed as to what is going on.

I just thought of two things I'd like to see done. For starters, I'd like some players to have the ability to play 3 positions.

Second, I'd like the computer to play closer attention to the player numbers.

I was playing with the Sixers, and I signed Kobe Bryant. Aaron McKie was still on my team, and they both had #8. At the same time, I signed Shaq. Shaq wears #34, which was Barkley's number and is retired. Also, my star point guard that I drafted wore #13. These are really just annoying (I changed it after a few games) but it isn't very hard to change.

I'd like no repeat jersey numbers with current players, but not the fact that I wouldn't be able to wear all retired numbers (not playing for Boston) The number changes when theres more than one of it should be different than previous lives too. Instead of eg. 5 to 6, 5 to 15 or 55, like the player actually would.

The automatically changing jersey numbers were cut in Live 2000 I believe... It was there at some point, but they just got lazy because they added the "edit player" where the player can edit some things about they're players.

I won't be surprised if this is one fact that isn't fixed. It is trivial though...

There are more important things to fix!

Sega's NBA 2K3 has automatic number renaming, I think, like when you do a fantasy draft before a season/franchise. I think they also made it so that Michael Jordan is always number 23, no matter where he plays. I think if there's another player with 23 on the team he's assigned to, that player is given a new number. But I think all the other players were just given random numbers when assigned to teams in the fantasy draft.
In normal seasons (without fantasy draft), players keep their number if there is no conflict.
I'd lke to see a similar system for live 2004, so when trades or fantasy drafts occur, the player with the higher rating is allowed to keep his number, while the lesser player is given a new number.
