~Maverick-Mania~ A story that has to be told!

Postby mjje on Sun Jan 15, 2006 2:12 am

This is my first dynasty story. Sorry if my english isn't the best.
Settings: real NBA, 82 games, 12 minutes, All Star, Player: me

 RECAP
So now let us begin the story:
Welcome everybody to the recap of november of the Dallas Mavericks performance.
They're struggling a lot this season and are on a 0-14 record. Their teamleader in almost every category is Dirk Nowitzki. Here're some team-stats:

Points:
Nowitzki - 30,4 Image
Stackhouse - 15,8
Terry - 13,9

Rebounds:
Nowitzki - 11,0
Dampier - 9,9
Diop - 6,9

Assists:
Terry - 6,0 Image

Blocks:
Dampier - 3,3 (1st in league)Image
Nowitzki - 2,7

Steals:
Terry - 1,5
Howard - 1,4

No trades have been done so far. Unfortunately Jerry Stackhouse injured his finger so he will miss the next 7 days including the upcoming highlight-match against the Spurs.
Everybody in the team is very disappointed with the games they had played so far including some tough losses. GM MJJE has already been warned twice by the owners, so Dallas has to win the next match if MJJE wants to keep his job.

Recap:
After having lost their first game against the Spurs (126-103) the Mavericks were up for a revenge. And they did good with that. In the first quarter the lead changed a lot but in the end Dallas led by two.
The second quarter was even more exiting. Duncan hit all of his 5 shooting attempts. Nowitzki had 17 points after the first half.
Dallas came out very strong in the third to spread the lead to 12.
In the fourth quarter the Spurs never came closer than 6 and missed all their many 3-attempts.
So the Mavericks took their first win this season surprisingly against the reigning champs.
The high point men were Dirk Nowitki and Jason Terry with his season high of 27 points.
Thanks and good night says Peter Pansen!

I really had my problems playing well as I've never before played 12 minute-quarters and also I had to find the right sliders to fit my skill which is obviously low.

Recap:
With their first season win in the back the Mavericks wanted to enlarge their winning streak to two.
Still playing without the injured Stackhouse the Mavs struggled in the first and were down by two.
But they came back strong and took the lead after the first half. Especially the 3-point-shooters of both teams showed their skills. New Orleans/ Okl. City hit 71.4% from the perimeter, Dallas 57.1%.
Though the third quarter was a low-point-one Nowitzki made almost every shot and had 12 this quarter.
Unluckily for Dallas Eric Dampier hurt his ankle in a dunk attempt.
Fighting hard the Hornets came back so the score was a tie after three.
The last quarter was dominated by Terry's and Nowitzki's foul shooting in the end which kept the lead for Dallas.
So the Mavericks won again. We'll see how long this streak will last.
The player of the game was Dirk Nowitzki with 30 points and 9 boards. Jason Terry also dominated with 25 points and 8 assists.

Bad news first: Eric Dampier's bone spur in his ankle will keep him from playing for the next three weeks. DeSegana Diop is going to replace him in the starting 5.
Image
Good news follow: Though Jerry Stackhouse hasn't fully recovered from his injury he's ready for the next game vs. the Bulls.

Defens not only wins champinships
...but also matches! Just like the Mavericks did last night not allowing more than 87 points by the Bulls.
The Mavericks had to wait 2:14 minutees before getting the first points by Nowitzki. But they got better and led by four after the first quarter.
The second quarter Dallas started with a 14-0 point-streak all thanks to their great defensive efford. Kirk Hinrich, star of the Bulls, didn't hit one of his eight shoot-attempts in the first half.
The second half was just about keeping the lead and giving some court-time to the bench warmers. So Podkolzin had carrier-high 10 points.
Player of the game was once again Nowitzki with 26 points and 9 rebounds. Jerry Stackhouse had a good comeback scoring 12 points.

Thank you!
But actually it was the third win.
Podkolzin has to play as a backup for Diop as long as Dampier is injured.

The nerves decide
The Mavs came to Indiana with 3 wins in their backs. But the Pacers weren't impressed at all. They started with a series of Fieldgoals almost hitting every shot. In the end of the first quarter Dallas got better yet they couldn't prevent a 5 point defecit.
Ecpecially Bender gave them a hard time as neither Nowitzki nor van Horn stood a chance in defending him. Bender had 18 points after the first half and 30 in the end though he got injured in the fourth quarter.
In the third quarter the Mavericks were able to get closer so the exciting fourth quarter was prepared.
With 48 seconds to go in the match Nowitzki hit a 3-pointer which cut Indiana's lead to three. Then O'Neal missed a lay-up. So Dallas had the opportunity to draw the game. Nowitzki tried a shot from behind the arc, but missed. Luckily Diop got the offensive rebound, passed the ball to Nowitzki who again failed to score the 3.
As time ran down Tinsley, who got the board, was fouled and went to the line. He made one of two.
15 seconds to play: Howard passed the ball to Terry who tried the 3-pointer. And it's in! So again Dallas fouled to stop the clock. This time Croshere was the man to do the work for the pacers. He threw...and hit the first. Second try...and he missed, rebound Nowitzki with 6 seconds to go.
The Mavericks called a timeout immedietely. Two points to draw, three to win, who will be the go-to-guy?
It's, what a surprise, Devon Harris. He got the ball from Nowitzki, dribbled, drove inside, threw..... and missed...
...Rebound van Horn! Two seconds...van Horn jumps, shoots, but also missed, the time was up, the Pacers won by two. The Dallas players showed weak nerves this time, hope they'll do better the next.
Player of the game was Bender with 30 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Not again!
With a fully recovered Jerry Stackhouse Dallas wanted to show their fans that the loss against the Pacers just was a small coincidence on their way to success.
So they started off well. Especially in the paint Memphis had no chance to defend Dallas' post-up players.
The second quarter also started like expected. Van Horn's first 3-pointer gave them a 37-32 lead. But then it was done with the Dallas defence. Memphis really overran the Mavs and was leading with 6 points after the first half.
The third quarter belonged to Pau Gasol. He made 12 points and 5 rebounds in this quarter, also thanks to Nowitzki getting into foul trouble.
So it came that with 14 seconds to go in the game Nowitzki got fouled out. The Grizzlies were up with 110-109. So Cardinal went to the free-throw-line and made one of two. On the following fast-break Terry went to the lay-up and got fouled. He had the opportunity to draw the game but missed the first. So he decided to misthrow the second also, to get the offensive board.
Diop jumped up for the board...Gasol got it, passed to Stoudamire who immediately got fouled, hit both and took the win for Memphis.
Another defeat for Dallas, hopefully this streak won't last for long.
Player of the game was Pau Gasol with 28 points, 13 boards and 6 assists.
Keith van Horn had his season high in points with 21 including 5-7 from behind the 3-throw -line.

It's over!
The loosing-streak of two games for the Mavericks ended last night with a furious offensive statement.
A lucky aspect for Dallas was Pierce injuring his leg with 1:16 played in the game. His injury wasn't that serious but he could not reenter the game until the half of the second quarter. The first quarter was ended by Devon Harris with 2 field-goals in a row. The second quarter Dallas started with a 10-2-run.
The Mavs never really got in trouble until the third quarter when especially Ricky Davis showed his skills. He had a great number of 38 points in the game.
In the fourth quarter Orien Greene got injured after Diop's sixth foul which let him leave the court. In the end the Celtics tried all to come back, missing most of their shots from behind the perimeter.
So Dallas took the deserving win. The great man in the defence was DeSagana Diop who had 7 blocks and 10 rebounds. The title player of the game once again went to Dirk Nowitzki though Jason Terry could have earned it, too with his season high 27 points hitting 11-15 from the field.

Nowitzki vs. Lakers 1-0
Last night the LA Lakers came to Dallas to take a win back home to the west coast. But the Mavs gave them a hard challenge to do. Nevertheless the Lakers were up by three after the first quarter.
In the second quarter Dallas did all they could to cut the lead. It seemed to be without succes when the dominating man Nowitzki hit a field-goal with 0.4 seconds to go before the break so the difference was down to two.
In the third quarter the defense dominated the match. Still LA was able to keep one point ahead of their opponents. Kobe Bryant hit many shots this quarter but everytime Dirk answered with the same on the other end.
Dallas finally overtook the Lakers in the fourth quarter with a jump-shot by Terry. Later Howard hit one from behind the arc to increase the lead to 5. But Von Wafer did the same thing for LA. So the difference was down to two. Would Dallas once again lose their nerves and lose a tight game?
No! 'Cause Stackhouse was the one to bring it home with a lay-up with 21 seconds to go. Following this there were some Freethrows for the Mavs and mostly missed 3-point-attempts by the Lakers.
Dirk Nowitzki had his season-high game including 45 points and 16 rebounds. Another double-double for Jason Terry who dished 11 assists paired with 12 points. Kobe was well defended, he only had 25 points.

The Mavs burn the Suns
In the first quarter Dallas nearly didn't stand a chance in getting the rebounds. Stoudemire alone had 7 boards of the 13 they got while the Mavs only grabbed 6. So the Suns took the lead.
Then the Mavericks came back great with scoring 10 points more than Phoenix. Surprisingly Amare Stoudemire ended the half with a long range 3-pointer.
In the third quarter Dallas was able to enlarge the lead to ten but the Suns didn't give up and hit some tough ones. Two freethrows by Nash followed by two freethrows by Diaw cut the lead to one.
Phoenix tried all they could while the Mavs reacted well and defended the gap till the end. Some freethrows in the end even enlarged the difference.
Player of the game, no surprise: Dirk Nowitzki. He hit 10 of his 15 shooting-attempts and grabbed 11 rebounds. Terry once again had a double- double, either. Best man for the Suns was Shawn Marion who scored 24 points and had 13 boards including seven offensive ones.

Dallas TV: Hi everybody, welcome to our little after-the-match-show live for your Dallas TV. Tonight I got the chance to talk to Dallas Center DeSagana Diop. Hi DeSagana! How you're doin'?
DeSagana Diop: Hi Frank! I'm doin' very good.
DTV: You should be, as you've been in the starting five for the last six games. How you're feeling about that?
Diop: Well, it's like, Erick (Dampier) is injured. So I got the coache's trust to replace him in the starting five. Of course, I'm very glad about it, though it's a loss for our team when Erick can't play.
DTV: But you're last games' performance never let the peaple think about Dampier not playing. The Mavs' record with you in the starting lineup is 4-2.
Diop: I guess with Erick we would have had the same numbers.
DTV: You're very modest. Let's take a look at your numbers as a starter: I see 5.8 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 1.8 APG and incredible 3.8 BPG. At the moment you are the best defender in your team.
Diop: I do all I can to help my team win games. Defense is my strength which explains my numbers. And about being too modest: naturally I try to stay in the starting five even when Erick comes back. That's my goal this season.
DTV: Besides winning the title...
Diop: That would be the ultimate goal. But at first we have to make the playoffs. We're on a good run but still far away from the first eight conference-positions.
DTV: Let's change the topic. Dirk Nowitzki is playing a great season, still he gets most of the pressure 'cause he's the only all-star in your team. How do you and your teammates try take the pressure off him.
Diop: Dirk is such a great and experienced player, on and off the court. He's used to getting most of the pressure like in the last seasons' playoffs or in the german national-team. He's just incredible. If nobody else knows what to do just pass the ball to Dirk, he'll somehow score, anytime. Besides we have other experienced guys like Jason (Terry) or Jerry (Stackhouse), so the leadership in the team is shared between more than only one man.
DTV: Our time is up yet. Thank you very much for having been here. It was nice talking to you.
Diop: Thanks for having me.

The Mavs do the Magic
The Magic started the game very well with a temporary gap of 8 points. But the Mavericks didn't seem to be affected by that.
They got going hard and went up by 14 points in the second quarter. Terry had 18 points at the break while Dallas was leading with five.
In the third quarder the Mavs were able to increase the gap. But in the fourth Orlando had a strong comeback, Turkoglu hit a three which narrowed Dallas' lead to two. But strong Freethrowshooting by Terry and Harris kept the lead and gave the Mavericks another victory.
Player of the game: Who else than Dirk Nowitzki who had 21 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.
