Yougi's RAPTORS dynasty - Begginning 2nd Season!

Postby Yougi on Wed Jan 04, 2006 3:45 am

Because I lost my Atlanta Dynasty to an angry formatting bro, I'm gonna do a Raps Dynasty.

It's gonna be 28 games long, with the 2004 rosters (which means I have VC, and CB4 is still a scrub), and if I somehow manage to get a championship, I'm gonna change team and take the one with the lowest Win total. That way, I'm always gonna have to rebuild, and somehow have fun.

Image

Off-season goals:

-I love AD, so I'm gonna keep him as a starter, but I'm gonna try to match him with a high post player, and to make him a 4.
-I'm gonna try to get a better PG that can shoot.
-I'm gonna try to get rid of all those back-up swingmen.
-I'm gonna put VC on the block.
-I'm gonna try to get a good shooter.

What I did:
First, I tried to go after all the shooting PGs I had in mind (Bibby, Billups, Nash). Of course none of their teams wanted to get rid of them, so I offered Seattle a trade they jumped on real real fast: Barry and Vlad Rad for JYD, Alvin and Jerome Moiso. With that trade, I get the point guard I wanted.

Also, after a few calls around the league to ship Carter, after going for the Matrix, for Tawn and Raef, for Toine and McCarty, Saco's GM called me:

"Vince is on the block?
-He is.
-I offer you Brad and Peja for him. Well... if you add Palacio, cause we have 15 players."

Geez, I think I made a good deal with that one.

Well... it soon became a three team deal though... I asked their GM to hold on, and knowing New York was searching for a better scorer, I sent them Peja for Allan Houston and Deke Mutombo. That way, I get an incredible back-up, and a mentor for CB4.

Also, I signed Rod Strickland as my back-up lead.

And Denver were somehow interested to part ways with Rodney White, and in acquiring Ken Johnson. As a joke, I offered them to swap, and they accepted...

Image

First Game: Nets (0-0)

Game Plan:
On O: Out run them, play inside out in half court
ON D: Nut let them run, play Zone
Special Notes: For some special reason, PGs always score a lot on my teams. I'm gonna try to make sure J-Kidd doesn't.

1st: 23-22 Nets
Too much fouls, Kidd gets hot, Mourning blocks everything when our bigs try to score...

2nd: 54-43 Raps
A 22-2 run fueled by incredible D by Deke and our backcourt scoring helped us, but was shadowed when Brent Barry showed signs of a sprained toe (which was not the case, he'll be back after halftime) and Allan Houston fouled for 3 straight times, causing me to get him out of the court.

Image

3rd: 84-72 Raps
Jason Kidd trying to do to much helped us a lot, despite Allan Houston picking a very quick (13 secs into the second half) 4th foul. MoPete and AD really took their game up though, letting us enter the final one with a 8 point lead.

4th: 114-101 Raps
J-Kidd's 45 pts, 9 ast performance got him POTG award, even though his team lost. On our side, Barry had 16 pts and 8 ast, and both AD (12-14) and Miller (13-10) had double-doubles.

Game 2: Wolves

Game Plan:
On O: Run!!! Get easy basket in the half court by passing the rock
ON D: Make them turn it over, not give the J, keep KG away from the basket

1st: 26-20 Raps
Divided in two, really. The first part, we were unable to stop them, unable to run, unable to convert the easy baskets we were able to create. The second was awesome though... When KG left the floor to take a breather, we were able to run, and Brent Barry's hustle play lead the team to incredible success.

2nd: 61-50 Raps
Brent Barry shot his way to 26-5-4 (all game-highs) and an 11 pts lead. At the end though, when he was out, it showed. No one could convert, allowing Sam I Am to run the court 4 straight times for uncontested lay-ups. I also realised CB4 has a jumper. This is gonna be helpful.

3rd: 87-70 Raps
Barry, Barry, Barry. 42 pts, 6 rbds, 7 asts and 5 steals helped us. And there is still one quarter to go. Oh... and also, cutting Cassell's jumper with the height differential really destroyed Sota's plans on offense.

Final: 119-92 Raps
Guess who? Brent finished with 54 pts on 20/30 shooting, plus perfect 10/10 from the line. Add to that 8 steakls, as many boards and 12 dimes, and you get a player of the game award.

I realised that Vlad Rad is not someone I really like, nor MoPete, and I also want a better shot blocker, but an athletic one, to cut the fast breaks... I'm gonna look for that...

Right now, I offered a quite tempting trade to Milwaukee, that they accepted. Probably my last for at least a month.

I sent them Lamond Murray, my star off the bench (9.5 ppg with 3.5 apg in 14 minutes), and Vlad Rad, for Joe Smith and Toni Kukoc.

I've always been a fan of Kukoc, and he'll allow me to create match-up problems for the opponent, at every position that I want.

Game 3: Mavs (1-2)
Game Plan:
On O: Go through AD on Dirk
On D: Keep Dirk in the post, and Tawn away from it

1st: 23-22 Raps
Only 3 assists to go with 10 field goals. That is why the score is so near. They are playing Zone, and we're isolating. Anyways, Barry is still the star with 7 points and 3 blocks, thanks to a 3 inches advantage, on Nash. Tawn is unstoppable, scoring 9 points on perfect shooting.

2nd: 46-46
Trying many ways to shut down their forwards (putting Kukoc on Dirk and Joe Smith on Tawn, or putting Kukoc on Tawn and AD on Dirk, or even Deke on Dirk and Miller on Tawn, I tried it all), but it never worked out. Brad Miller also went down when Shawn Bradley knocked him to the floor while he was trying to complete an alley-oop from Strickland. It's his left knee, and he's out for the game at the very least. That will give more time to new comers Kukoc and Smith.

Speaking about those two, Kukoc has not been as impressive as I first thought. Well, he couldn't benefit from a matchup advantage because he was guarded by very athletic and strong forwards, so I'll keep that in mind. Joe Smith, on the other end, showed me the hustler I wished I had since the beggining of the season. Getting offensive boards on the break is always something I like, and this guy had 2 in 3 minutes of play.

3rd: 77-73 Mavs
I started the second half with Smith as my Center. Usually, I'd have prefered Deke, but now, to guard a Raef that has 3 point touch, I'll go with Smith... And he went down while trying to dunk over Nash, probably with a bruised right arm. His hustle was really missed, as his Defense on Dirk, but Brent Barry showing signs of himself two nights ago and MoPete leading the show really helped us to be in the game at the beginning of the final one.

4th: 104-98 Mavs
Late game struggle caused us to drop our first game in the season. On the good hand, Barry ended the game with 22pts, 5 ast and 4 blocks, showing he is for real.

Brad Miller sprained his ankle, causing him to miss 2 weeks, during which Smith and Deke will take turns at the 5.

Also, I think it's time for you to see a bit of the league leaders and surprises:

PPG:
1. B. Barry (TOR) 31.0
2. R. Hamilton (DET) 29.0
3. P. Pierce (BOS) 28.5
4. C. Webber (SAC) 27.5
5. S. Abdur-Rahim (ATL) 26.7

RPG:
1. S. O'neal (LAL) 12.3
2. T. Duncan (SAS) 12.0
2. K. Garnett (MIN) 12.0
2. B. Wallace (DET) 12.0
5. J. O'neal (IND) 11.0
5. C. Webber (IND) 11.0

APG:
1. B. Barry (TOR) 8.3
2. J. Kidd (NJN) 8.2
3. S. Nash (DAL) 7.8
4. M. Jackson (UTAH) 7.3
5. J. Tinsley (IND) 7.2

BPG:
1. B. Wallace (DET) 4.00
2. S. O'neal (LAL) 2.67
3. T. Duncan (SAS) 2.50
4. A. Davis (TOR) 2.33
4. B. Miller (TOR) 2.33

SPG:
1. B. Barry (TOR) 3.00
1. A. Iverson (PHI) 3.00
3. R. Artest (IND) 2.40
4. A. Houston (TOR) 2.33
5. Baron Davis (NOH) 2.20

League-wide:
Surprise players: Webber (27.5-11-5-2-2) is coming back to his past-surgery self, and so is Allan Houston (23 ppg to go alongside 2.33 spg). Kurt Thomas is gettin 20.2 and 9.5, with 2.2 dimes per. Brent Barry is also surprising everyone, leading the league in scoring, assists, steals and averaging 5.7 rpg and 2 bpg.

Surprise teams: Atlanta and New York are undefeated so far... but it's too early to tell for more than that.

Results from my trades: Seattle are probably regretting Barry, but JYD is getting 10 boards per, Moiso is 12-8, and Alvin is averaging 23 points per, good for 15th in the league.

Sacramento must also be regretting that trade, as Vince is getting only 17.5 points and 5 assists. Also, they are somehow unwilling to start Doug alongside Vince, preferring young Gerald Wallace, who is at 7.5 points.

New York: Peja is averaging 14.5 points. Enough said.

The 04 Class: I'm gonna show you stats from the top picks of the rookie class.

(in order of drafting)
1. CLE - LeBron James: 24.7 - 7 - 4 - 0.67 - 0.67
2. DET - Darko Milicic: 20 - 8 - 4 - 1 - 1
3. DEN - Carmelo Anthony: 10.5 - 3.7 - 2.7 - 0 - 1
4. TOR - Chris Bosh*: 1 - 1.3 - 0 - 0.3 - 0 in 2.7 minutes
5. MIA - Dwayne Wade: 10 - 5 - 3 - 1 - 1
6. LAC - Chris Kaman*: 4 - 4.5 - 0.5 - 1 - 0.5 n 19.5 minutes
7. CHI - Kirk Hinrich*: Did not play yet
8. MIL - TJ Ford: 9.3 - 3 - 5 - 1.3 - 0.3
9. NYK - Mike Sweetney*: 2.2 - 0.8 - 0.2 - 0 - 0.2 in 9 minutes
10. WAS - Jarvis Hayes*: 3- 0 - 0 - 0 - 0 in 4.5 minutes

* denotes a bench role

@Negative One: Thanks a lot :) I hope I'll be able to make it a little more lively though...
@bullsfan009: Heck yeah, he's going for NBA first team if he keeps it up.

When I arrived at practice and told the guy we were starting a full court trap D, they were laughing at me. Then, after quite a few drills, they realised it was gonna help... when the stealing line-up of Smith, Kukoc, Barry, Houston and Mo will be on, we'll be unstoppable  MWAHAHAHAHA!

Game 4: Wizards

Game Plan:
On O: Go at their deprived front court
On D: Force Stack and Gilbert to drive, allowing Deke to knock them down :scold: Force Jeffries to handle it

1st: 37-27 Raps
AD was clearly SHAQesque. 14 pts (7-9), 4 rebounds, 2 blocks. Barry also helped with 6 points on a single field goal and 3 assists, and Houston with his 7 points. Both guards had 2 steals, thanks to the new defense.

Image

2nd: 68-54 Raps
Smith and Mo were impressive. Smith had 2 steals, 8 points and 4 rebounds in 7 minutes, and Mo had 15 points and 4 assists. The only trouble seems to be Arenas, who is at 18 pts and 5 assists, on his way to follow J-Kidd (45p and 9a), Cassell (31p and 8a) and Nash (22p and 10 a) as the point guards that have incredible games against us. Bad thing for us is, that would be 4/4...

3rd: 110-89 Raps
If AD (28-8) was Shaq, MoPete was his Kobe (27 with 5 ast). The trap D really destroyed everything the Wizards tried to do on Offense, and fueled our breaks.

4th: 138-108 Raps
With a line-up of CB4, Joe Smith, Kukoc, White and Strickland, we were able to kick the Wizards' ass by scoring 138 on them. For the 4th straight time, we were torched by a point guard though, as Arenas had 36 and 12 alongside 3 steals. Also, our trap D caused them 32 turnovers, and we were outrbounded 42-29. Of course, when Brad will be back everything is gonna be better, but I need to do something...

On the original ratings, his potential is about an A. So if you go like 5 or 10 years in a dynasty, he nearly always becomes a superstar. Same happens with Kwame Brown.

Next game: Lakers. The Fab Four at full strength. I'm gonna try to start with the Trap D, then switch to a zone if it doesn't work. The only way to win this one is to put Karl or Shaq in foul trouble... So we're gonna drive a whole lot! Therefor, Smith will be the center, so he can run into Shaq.

1st: 32-25 Raps
Karl, Shaq, Kobe and Payton each had one foul, but spectacular play from our own Kobe and Shaq (AD had 14-5 and Mo had 12 points) improved our play. Joe Smith's D also showed, getting 3 blocks and changing numerous shots. And guess what? Payton had 11 points..

Image
Each team's Shaq played good in the first, but ours was better.

2nd: 64-50 Raps
CB4 played out of his mind. 2 3-pt plays on Karl Malone, putting him in foul troubles, and 2 putback, for a total of 10 points, to go with 5 boards, in a single quarter!

3rd: 98-83 Raps
Payton is at 19 and 6. Not torching us as much as usually, but still, he's playing big. MoPete now has 26 points, CB4 has 18 and so has AD. Barry went down in the third while taking a foul from Bryant. We're not updated yet, but it's something in his left arm.

4th: 126-101 Raps
Payton ended up with 25 and 9, being the 5th straight point getting over 20 and 8 against us. Kobe also had 25, and Shaq got 17 boards, but it was not evnough, as Mo, AD and CB4 led the show! The first tho had 26 points each, and CB4 had 18.

Image
MoPete stopped the real Kobe from winning this one.

Kings: Going to beat Vince in Arco:) And Brad ain't even there :(

Image

1st: 35-19 Raps
Vince had 11 points, but it was not enough. C-Webb's foul problems kept him on the bench, and it killed the Kings' offense. MoPete's 10 points and 3 assists peformance is worthy of being talked about.

2nd: 58-51 Raps
Vince has 13 pts, so has Bibby, to go with 6 assists. Webber again sat out due to foul problems.

Also... Barry is back to himself, with 14 points and 2 assists so far!

Image

3rd: 90-75 Raps
Barry had 14 in the 3rd, reminding us of... Brent Barry!! Bibby, on the other hand, is already at 21 and 7, becoming the 6th straight point guard kicking our defense...

Image

4th: 108-99 Raps
Youngster time! I realised that I need a point guard of the future... It's on my wishlist for the draft. At the end though, with the Kings coming back (thanks to a 16-2 run), I put my starters back in, allowing us to this win. Neither Vince Carter's 23 points nor Bibby's 29 and 9 night erased Webber's absence for the whole first half. Barry's 34 points (leading 6 Raptor in double-figure), 3 steals, 3 blocks and 5 assists performance, though, was enough for him to get POTG award!

An update on the league:
PPG Leaders
1- P. Pierce (BOS) 31.5
2- R. Hamilton (DET) 29.0
3. A. Iverson (PHI) 28.0
3. T. McGrady (ORL) 28.0
5. J. Kidd (NJN) 26.5

RPG Leaders
1- S. O'neal (LAL) 13.0

3- T. Duncan (SAS) 12.0

5- J. O'neal (IND) 11.2

APG Leaders
1- J. Kidd (NJN) 8.2
2- B. Barry (TOR) 7.5
2- G. Payton (LAL) 7.5
2- J. Williams (MEM) 7.5
5. M. Jackson (UTAH) 7.4

BPG Leaders
1- B. Wallace (DET) 4.0
2- S. O'neal (LAL) 2.8
3- A. Davis (TOR) 2.7
3- D. Mutombo (TOR) 2.7
5. T. Duncan (SAS) 2.6

SPG Leaders
1- B. Barry (TOR) 2.8
1- A. Iverson (PHI) 2.8
3- R. Artest (IND) 2.5
3- A. Houston (TOR) 2.5

Other Raptors on the leader boards:
Brent Barry is also 6th in scoring with 25.7, and tied for 14th in blocks with 1.8
Joe Smith is 6th in blocks, with 2.4
Brad Miller is tied for 7th in blocks, with 2.3
Antonio Davis is tied for 7th in steals, with 2.0

Surprises:
Eddie Jones is tied for 11th in the league in scoring, at 23.2
Pau Gasol is tied for 19th in scoring, at 21.5, and for 7th in rebounding, at 10.0, being one of only 4 players (others are Duncan, Shaq and Jermaine) to average a 20-10 right now.
Kenyon Martin is 6th in rebounding at 10.2, amd 9th in blocks at 2.2, becoming a real force down low. K-Mart is also averaging 17.2 points on .556 shooting.
Eddy Curry is one of 7 players averaging a double-double (the 4 20-10 talked about just above plus Martin and Garnett) with 17.7 points and 10 boards per (tied for 7th in the league).
Former Raptor Jerome Williams is still averaging 10 boards per also. Too bad for him he's only getting 7 points to go with them.

Jason Kidd's playing incredibly- he might get MVP in your league, although Brent Barry probably deserves it because of his versatility.

Toronto Star, Nov. 15th, 2004

Rockets launched in Toronto

Tomorrow, your Raptors will play against the Houston Rockets. This intriguing game will feature interesting match-ups from the opening tip.

PG: Steve Francis vs Brent Barry

Francis is an all-star, an offensive machine, and the main player on this team. Our team has problems defending against PGs, so he's hyped for a huge game.

Barry is playing out of his mind this season, averaging 25.7 points and 7.5 assists a night, plus 1.8 swats and 2.8 steals.

No clear edge, depend on Barry's play.

SG: Mobley vs Houston

Cat and Houston both are outsantding shooter that can still take it to the rack. Cat is kind of quiet as of now, and Hosuton his back to his past-surgery self, so...

Edge: Toronto

SF: Jimmy Jackson vs Mo Pete

Jim Jax is the 5th option on this ball club. He's still a very capable scorer, but not a reliable one, and his style is really resembling Cat's.

MoPete is presently the Kobe on this team, averaging over 24 in the past 3 games.

Edge: Toronto

PF: Griffin vs AD

AD can't guard Griffin on the perimeter, that's for sure. Griffin can also draw AD away from the paint, because of his long range, giving more room to Franchise to drive.

Edge: Houston

C: Yao vs Deke

The legend vs the young one. Deke will start this one (since Brad Miller is still out with a sprained ankle), but Yao is still the one on the edge for this one.

Edge: Houston

Verdict: It all depends on Brent Barry. I hope the MVP talk will help him.

Toronto Star, Nov. 16th, 2004

Francis unstoppable, Toronto drop it 92-85

Brent barry swatted Francis' first shot (a 3 on a pass from Yao) for a strong tomahawk.

Then, on their second possession, Francis tried to drive, got his shot blocked by Deke, who blocked Griffin's putback also, which lead to a fast break 3 pointer by Barry, or , well... a putback of that shot by Davis.

That was pretty much the story of the whole 1st quarter. Banging around every Rocket that tried something on O, then running the court for easy points.

The starters lacked energy though, and for the first 4 minutes of the 2nd, the 2nd unit was on. Except for a few bright plays by Smith, it was overall horrible and made what once was a 11 points lead slip away.

When the starters came back though, the Rockets decided to use their premium 3 point shooting ability, and it worked. AT halftime, they only trailed by 4 points.

The 3rd quarter was the time for hot shooting from the Rockets, and too much offense based on Shaq and Kobe (MO and AD). AD was somehow unable to be consistent, and Mo shot an abyssal 3-8 from the field, causing the canadians to be down 7 when entering the final 7 minutes. That deficit was too much for them, as they failed to come back despite trying to handle Francis with Houston, which half-worked.

Top performance:
Francis: 32 points on 10-18, with 6 assists and 2 steals
Jim Jackson: 17 points on 5-8
Brent: 13 points on 3-8, 9 assists
AD: 18 pts on 9-12, 11 rbds, 5 blocks
Houston: 26 on 12-20, 3 steals
Mo: 8 on 3-12
Mutombo: 5 blocks, 7 rebounds
Joe Smith: 11 points on 5-9, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 steals

Nowitzki on the block

Dallas, TX - Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowitzki, who averaged career highs in rebounding (9.1) and a 21.7 points average so far this season, is supposedly on the block. They would supposedly be trying to put Antawn Jamison at his natural PF spot, so Nash can run more of a fast-break offense, in which he'll be more successful.

Neither Mavericks GM nor Nowiztki was avaible for comments, but what the Mavs seems to be in research of is a defensive stopper at the swingmen spot, and a little more depth.

Phoenix is said to offer Marion and Penny, Utah Kirilenko, Harpring and Raja Bell, and Washington is leading the pack with Hughes, Stackhouse and Jeffries.

The trade is supposed to happen in the next couple of days. During that span, Dirk will still play, and probably start.

Toronto acquire Watson

Toronto, ON - After veteran off-season acquisition Rod Strickland complaining about his playing time, the Grizzlies called Toronto GM Yougi to swap their back-ups.

Memphis were trying to get a playmaker off the bench, and Watson was not that. So they sent him to Toronto.

"Watson is a defensive stud which can really help our team defend point guards. That is something that is really lacking so far.", said Yougi.

Doug starting again

Sacramento, CA - Since the Vince Carter trade this summer, Rick Adelman decided to start VC alongside Gerald Wallace instead of Doug Christie, to allow more explosiveness. A bad start for the Kings made Rick think about it again, and start Doug Christie alongside Vince.

Next Kings game is against Detroit, at the Palace.

Opinions on "Nowitzki to be traded"

Dallas, TX - Steve Nash : "I feel bad for Dirk, being the one that causes the change. I'm on the side that thinks that Dirk is the best fit on that team, but it seems obvious the GM and coach is not thinking that way."

On possible acquisitions: "I have Marion in great estime. I think he's a top 3 defender, he's an explosive scorer that can take it to the hoop without a problem, run the court and shoot the J. He can also grab boards and lead a play. This is a guy that always help to have on your team.

Penny is long past his prime, and has a ridicular contract, but on the court, he can still be a worthy pickup. He's still very athletic, a talented scorer, a more than decent passer and an over agerage defender.

Kirilenko is the next big defensive thing. This guy can grab boards, play perimeter D, help D, block shots, play the passing lanes, there's nothing on D the guy can't do. Plus, he's young and will still improve.

Harpring is also a great scorer, a very talented shooter, and a good defender. This guy would be an incredible force off the bench.

Bell is a young guy, whose offense ain't that important since we're already fll of scorer, but whose defense is out of our minds. He's playing on a level above anyone else (except Ron and Marion, and Kirilenko, and Big Ben) on that side of the ball.

Hughes is an incredible defender, and an offensive threat with or without the ball. This guy can play 3 positions, and he'ld be incredible in our future fast paced offense.

Stackhouse is indeniably an offensive force. Because of his passable defense, he'll probably be a sixth man if we get hm, in which case he'll be able to score 20+ against second units.

Jeffries, I lke to call him mini-Tawn. He's a strong, yet athletic forward that can play both, the only difference is his jumper is shorter and his handling is on a lower level."

Mavericks GM: "Of course, I'd prefer to send Dirk in the East. Facing Dirk is never something you want to do in the season, imagine in the playoffs."

"Right now, only problem with Phoenix' offer is Hardaway's contract. Plus the fact they are in the West. Utah's also a western team, and quite frankly, I think they are under-offering. Washington is leading, but still has a problem to their offer: I don't get the stopper I want!"

Great move picking up Watson. Are you going to just use him off the bench, or start him and move Barry to the 2? Or 3? (that's the nice thing about Barry- he can play 3 positions (Y) )

Nah, I'm gonna keep Houston and Mo on the starting 5, and Watson off the bench. Geez, Mo and Houston are also playing out of their minds! Mo is kind of a Kobe in some games... so yeah , I'm gonna keep Watson off the bench.

Let me know when you've hit your midway point, Yougi...I'd like to compute your efficiency stats!(are you playing the game on PC?) How many games have you played so far? I really like Watson...I've seen him play in real live and he's just feisty dude... Keep up the good work on this dynasty...

I love Watson also, that's why I traded for him!!!

I have 6-7 games played, and the season is 28 games long.

I'm playing PC.

Thanks for the comments! :)
