Who you guys got at number 1
I got Rudy Gay
Tue Jan 10, 2006 12:08 am
LaMarcus Aldridge
Tue Jan 10, 2006 12:29 am
There's already a thread on this and it's way too early to tell.
I wouldn't take Rudy Gay with the 1st pick, he has no jumper AT ALL and his defense is almost non-existent. He's a very exciting player, his dunks are nice but that's it pretty much.
Who'll be the first pick depends on too many undecided factors, eg. how the NCAA season will develop, who will get the first pick, possible upcoming trades (shifting the needs of certain teams).

gay... yea tahts the word
Tue Jan 10, 2006 7:16 am
It will be a momentus day in the NBA when a dude has "gay" on the back of his shirt. It will be the least selling nba shirt in all history...even if he's the next michael jordan.
Tue Jan 10, 2006 8:30 am
cklitsie, your sig is missing Depaul, lol sry Depaul is my school.
Oh and I want to take Rudy Gay please, the next Darius Miles. No range, but he has a better attitude.
Tue Jan 10, 2006 10:58 am
He should apply for a legal name change. I think I'd prefer Mohammed as my last name to 'Gay'.

Girls would probably buy it.

Imagine if Houston drafted him. We'll have Gay-Head back court. "Head penetrates and dishes to Gay who takes it to the hole!"

Sicko.

Pfft, that's nothing... there was a British soccer player going around, and his last name was Gaylord. Another one's (there were two brothers, actually) name was Younghusband, if you can believe that. Those of you who have played CM/FM will probably be getting a lot of flashbacks right now...

Rudy Gay sounds lik Fruity Gay
Tue Jan 10, 2006 3:31 pm
Rudy Gay could change what the gay meaning is. If he becomes an icon ala Michael Jordan he could actually change the whole meaning of such word. I would imagine thats his family last name and changing his name would not be very nice in the eyes of his family.
Tue Jan 10, 2006 4:59 pm
Anyways, aside from the Gay talk (double-meaning) , how about guys like JJ Redick and Adam Morrison?
Tue Jan 10, 2006 9:57 pm
JJ Reddick is a late 1st Rounder/early 2nd Rounder....probably similar to what happened with Salim Stoudamire last year....as for Adam Morrison, he's obviously a lock in the lottery, probably a Top 5 pick....
Tue Jan 10, 2006 10:04 pm
a lack or range & jumpshot is of small concern when drafting a player as those are sure to improve.

Very true, that's why Redick probably won't go really high as good as he might be for an NCAA player. The top lottery picks are more likely undergraduate, very athletic, smart players, with a lot of 'upside'.
I think that doesn't apply to Adam Morisson though, he's not a one-dimensional shooter. Damn, he reminds me of Dirk so much with everything he does. Redick's been working on some game outside of his long-range shooting and I must say it's paying off nicely.

Yeah, well there are 15 teams in the Big East, but these 8 are the ones that make the Big East my favorite conference.
[random]Yay! I got ESPN Full-Court [/random]

There arent really much big names out there. I personally think Gay isnt as good as advertised for obvious reasons(ex. jumpshop). JJ is ok but I dont really seeing him make a huge impact anywhere in the NBA(probably just a spot up shooter). Adam will probably be a decent bench guy

.
Wed Jan 11, 2006 9:52 am
I think Adam Morrison can definitely be a starter in the league, let's just hope he lands in the right situation....somewhere like Utah would be ideal under a guy like Jerry Sloan....
Wed Jan 11, 2006 10:52 am
morrison is alright, but i just hope he doesnt turn into mike dunleavy.
Wed Jan 11, 2006 11:52 am
Dunleavy was never as explosive as Morrison. Dunleavy averaged 17 ppg on 48% shooting in a very good system with good teammates to even the floor out.
Morrison is scoring 28 ppg on 52% shooting with 2 guys perpetually draped over him. That's unusual scoring considering how much defensive attention he draws.
For his entire last season at Duke Dunleavy attempted 119 free throws. Morrison has already drawn 127 free throws halfway through this season.

Ronnie Brewer isn't going to be the first overall pick, but I feel like he needs some recognition. I just love versatile guards who can play more than two positions.
Wed Jan 11, 2006 12:28 pm
LaMarcus Aldridge. He's an athletic big man and I think his body is NBA ready much like Bogut last draft. He may even have more upside than Bogut as well.

That sounds like LeBron when he first came to the league.

A few people might disagree with that last statement *cough*Jae*cough*
