Help

Postby The GOAT on Sat Jan 07, 2006 12:59 am

My PS2 sounds like a rusty chainsaw whenever I turn it on or it tries to load a disc. And then it never loads the disc, it just says "Reading disc..." for a really long time. Can anyone help me out?

ah dude, same problem happened to my PS2
it has something to do with the laser and it's very unlikely you can fix it. you can send it to sony or whatever, but you might as well just buy a new one because the price is going to end up to be the same. i know how frustrating it is, sorry man.

:?: Is it still under warranty? I had this problem and sent it in and they fixed it, but that was about a year ago.

pretty sure there's only a 1 year warranty from Sony.
most products nowadays have 1 yr warranties from the manufacturer

Happened to my first PS2 as well. As it wasn't under warranty Sony wanted $200 just to look at it, whether it could be fixed or not. I ended up buying another one from EB Games, who offered me their own extended warranty on it for an additional $30 or so which I glady accepted. The PS2+ is a better system though, haven't had a single problem with it (not to mention it has infrared for the remote inbuilt).

Before you wrote that message, I never even knew that system (the PS2+ or/a.k.a. PSX) even exsisted.

They don't even sell it over here, we've got the slim PS2 but I've never seen that model, ever. That shit looks sleek like a bitch with no hair on her.

It looks exactly the same as the original PS2 except it doesn't have some of the same technical problems and it's got the inbuilt infrared.

Oh, then we're talking about different things. This is the PSX.

PSX Picture.

That's the PSX and this is what my PS2 looks like:

PS2 Silver Edition.

And ofcourse, these are the ones being sold as of now:

PS2 Slimline (Silver).

That was the first thing I tried....anyway sounds like there's nothing I can do, I'll have to buy another one.

That might actually work out cheaper than getting it repaired by Sony though. $200 just to have it looked at...nice scam.

yeah I know but my problem is I've only got like 150 dollars. I buy a new one and I have nothing left, and I didn't even break it.

Thing is, I've got no freaking clue as to what the PSX is. Tonight is the first time I've layed eyes on it. I've never seen or heard of it before. I just happened to run into on Google when I entered PS2+ and all I got was PSX. If it wasn't released in North America, where has that thing been released? I'm quite confident I've not seen it anywhere in Holland.

I can't speak for the PSX, but a friend of mine has the slim PS2 & I have the fat one, for one, the slim one is a LOT quieter than the fat one. Secondly, this is just a feeling I got, but it seems the slim one tends to load a shitload faster. As I said, this is just a feeling I got, I don't have any proof for my speculations.

Thirdly, I think the biggest difference is just the looks, it's Sony's way of making more money. It's like selling a PC to everyone, then selling them a laptop. I won't bullshit you though, I placed my PS2 next to the guy's & I did feel mine looked bulky compared to his mini PS2. :x

I have the slimline PS2 and I know quite a few people with the bulky ass PS2 and does feel a shitload faster...

I was surprised when I took out the slimline PS2, i didn't expect to be that small, I took it out of the box and i was like, is that it?

and the PSX looks like a mini-fridge

the slimline PS2 is so slim because it has no fan, without a fan it can overheat so you can't leave it on for as long as a bulky PS2, but the slimline still looks a lot better and there's silver editions of it too.
I've seen PSX before but i thought that was another version Sony made and then scraped, guess I'm wrong. I can't remember where but i read somewhere ages ago that it had a built DVD writer and stuff, not suprised if you can fit a couple of Pepsi Max in it too

sounds ilke you wore out the lazer with dvd's or black discs. your best bet is to ebay a new one because it costs more than the system for the replacement
