IMO, the nicknames like e-rob, d-miles, etc are just convenient ways to say a players first/last name.

i've always liked nicknames based on a players game, mannerisms, or look.

Both came from Rucker Park this summer...if "Too Easy" caught on it would be up there with the best IMO...same for "Black Jesus"...only problem is that it wasn't known by enough people...

As far as I'm concerned...nothing comes close to "The Pistol" and "Magic"...Maravich even had "Pistol" on the back of his Jazz jersey...something no other player did before or has been allowed to do since...

"TP" for Tony Parker & "TAW" for Tariq Abdul Wahad, "Le Roi" (means the king) for Antoine Rigaudeau

And I prefer "Dream Tim" Duncan instead of TD

we can know about the origin of some nicknames :
"plastic man" for augmon because of his great agilty and ability to distort his body while playing in college
"the mailman" for malone cause he always delivers 2 points
"the glove" for payton because of his stealing skills like a thieft
"the admiral" for d. robinson cause of his studies in the navy
"the worm" for rodman cause when he was younger he used to gesticulate like a worm while he was playing flipper

Earl Monroe has my favorite nicknames I think..

The Pearl of course is classic.
Also on the NY City playgrounds he was known as "Black Jesus".

He was called "Plastic Man" for the same reason Andrei Kirilenko is called "Inspector Gadget"...his freakishly long arms. Plastic Man is a comic book character with the ability to stretch his body.

Payton is called the Glove because that's how he covers people...he stays on them like a glove on a hand...
