Sixers Hire New Coaching Staff

View JR Lenard's Profile (Assistant Coach)
View Julian Wong's Profile (Trainer)
View Iniko Hsu's Profile (Scout)

With new head coach Maurice Cheeks in Philadelphia, the Sixers looked for some new coaches to help the team. Billy King is looking for the right coaches to help the Sixers do better then the first-round exit that we saw last year against the Detroit Pistons.

"We think that these coaches will help our team win the championship," said King. "With a new staff, we will be able to start the season off fresh with our new-look bench and hopefully go all the way."

The Sixers had 1.72 million to spend, and JR Lenard was the first coach hired. Lenard is a 54 year old assistant coach whos specialty is athletics. This will help the Sixers run faster and avoid injuries. Lenard was excited to now be an assistant coach. "This will be a good oppurtunity to show what I can teach these players," said Lenard. "I feel like I can help this team go all the way and win the championship."

The second new staff member that was acquired was Julian Wong. This 46 year old trainer was very good at healing arm injuries, and has always done well when it comes to treating injuries. He is somewhat new to the pro level, but has done well wherever hes been. "I think I can contribute in Philadelphia," said Wong.

The other staff member hired was scout Iniko Hsu. Hsu is very good finding athletic players. Also he specializes in scouting players in Africa. Over the past, the 46 year old was one of the people responsible for bringing players like DJ Mbenga and Pape Sow into the NBA. "We believe Hsu will help us draft the right people," says King.

Sixers Training Camp

Image
JR Lenard set up this program for camp, mainly focusing on athletics while also working a little bit on defense.

The Sixers today began their quest for a title by starting with training camp. The Sixers did not live up to expectations with Chris Webber, who struggled with coach Jim O'Brien, as did many Sixers players, leading to O'Brien being fired and Mo Cheeks being hired. With a new coaching staff and all starters returning, the Sixers look for a chance to get past that first round.

"I wanna see what these young guys can show me," said Cheeks. "We have lost a few key bench players, including Willie Green and Marc Jackson this offseason. I hope that our new bench players can contribute when our starters need some rest. Also, We expect to bring back Willie to the Sixers in March."

Knowing the weakness of the Sixers bench, Julian Wong will be sure to keep the starters in shape. Julian is a new face on this team, and even though he is young, he had done very well at some top colleges around the country. Another new staff member is JR Lenard. Lenard made sure that all the players were working hard and getting better as training camp progressed. "Each player has different skills, and I was able to help different players strengthen their weaknesses."

Image
C-Webb is trying to return to the C-Webb of old by improving his strength.

Lenard also said that "while teaching the veterans is always a must, its even more important that young players and rookies get the most attention. I think I helped improve the defensive rebounding of Louis Williams." The 6'2" guard was drafted out of South Gwinnett HS and in a few years should be a good contributor off the bench. The skills he improved should make him increase his potential.

Louis wasn't the only new face to arrive in training camp. Also joining the Sixers was rookie Shavlik Randolph and veterans Lee Nailon and Steven Hunter. Randolph was signed as an undrafted rookie and is a very good offensive rebounder. Steven Hunter and Lee Nailon were signed during the offseason and will contribute in some backup minutes.

"I came here because I thought the Sixers would give me a good chance to win the title," said Hunter. "Even though I scored a lot in New Orleans, they weren't winning so I came to a team I thought could win," said Nailon.

Just a quick note. I am using Andrew's UNINJURED rosters for this dynasty, not the ones that include injuries. I tried to put real-life injuries into the game but it would only crash so guys like Nene and Dickau will be playing in my dynasty. This also means that Jamal Mashburn will be playing some games in my dynasty.

Iggy had 20 points for the Sixers

PHILADELPHIA November 1 (Ticker) -- The Sixers were getting ready for opening day. The atmoshphere in the crowd was great, with everyone getting pumped for the opening game against the Bucks. The opening tip was won by Milwaukee, and they scored the first basket. But the Sixers would end up going on top 61-51 after the first half of play.
The third quarter would be different though. Milwaukee came out on fire, scoring 37 points in the quarter. The Sixers, however, answered back with some points of their own. At the end of the quarter, Mo Williams stole a pass and then threw it up and tied the game up at 88 to end the quarter. Also Sam Dalembert was injured in the quarter, however he was cleared to play later in the game.
Then came the 4th quarter. The Sixers were strong throughout, and the key play came when C-Webb took a charge forcing Michael Redd out of the game. Then AI got his 5th foul with about 3 minutes left. Mo Cheeks kept him in the game and he nailed some clutch shots while burning the clock to kill rhe Bucks. Then Kevin Ollie nailed 5 of 6 free throws to seal the deal for the Sixers. AI had 37 points and 9 assists to earn Player of the Game honors. Also at the end of the game TJ Ford was hurt and it is questionable if he will miss any games.

Some information on Dalemberts injury.

The Sixers plan to keep Dalembert in the starting lineup, but use Hunter more frequently as Dalembert plays about 20-30 minutes a game trying to recover. TJ Ford is now healthy for the Bucks.

Nice win. Webber did a nice job sharing the ball and grabbed the boards but had a low-scoring game...AIx2 looked good though, tough injury to Dalembert.
Good luck against the Pistons, should be tough.

Sixers Blown Out
Iverson injured early in the first quarter

Ben Wallace and the Pistons D stepped up tonight

Detroit November 2 (Ticker) -- If the Sixers thought playing against the Pistons was just any game, they were wrong. The Pistons showed off their strong defense and electrifying offense in the 1st quarter against the 76ers. Philly was held to 18 points while the Pistons were able to get 34 points. However, the most crucial thing occuring in the quarter was the injury to Allen Iverson, who missed the rest of the game.
The 2nd quarter was just as bad as the first. Detroit continued to dominate as they controlled the ball and played great defense. The Pistons led by 37 at halftime and McDyess and Barnes both sustained injuries. They will both be able to return to the game. At the half Philly was shooting an awful 15/49 FG(30.6%)
The rest of the game was played mostly by bench players as the Sixers young guys had bunches of playing time. With that, Detroit won 136-88, and the Sixers look bad and must regain themselves against the Bobcats. Also Tayshaun Prince got hurt and McDyess reagravated that previous injury.

Some news regarding injuries.

He will be out for at least a week.

Image
Iverson will still play around 30 mins/game until he recovers.

Image
Barnes will be put on the inactive list until he recovers.

The Sixers found out before their game against Charlotte that Dalembert will be in full strength. Here is the news.

The Sixers lost to the Bobcats in a simmed game 78-74. The game was very low scoring and each team scored only 15 each in the 4th quarter.
