The Quest for #2 : The story of the 2007 - 2008 ATL Hawks

Postby ixcuincle on Tue Dec 13, 2005 2:40 am

Since taking a crap team and turning them around 180 takes a significant amount of talent , I decided to take over the Atlanta Hawks who won only 12 games last season and take them to the playoffs. The team did not start off well either , losing several straight games. I then decided to make drastic changes , starting off by trading Al Harrington to Milwaukee for Andrew Bogut. I was extremely unhappy with the point guard play and signed free agent Sarunas Jasivicius followed by free agent Nick Van Exel. Jasivicius became a great team leader and assist master , and guided the Hawks back to respectability. Marvin Williams was a MONSTER his first couple of weeks until an injury sidelined him for several games. When I coached the Lakers in NBA Live 05 I took a struggling Kobe Bryant who apparently was ice-cold from 3 point range and placed him in the power forward position where he was able to hit easier shots closer to the bucket. Bryant flourished , and so would Josh Childress in his new role as the Hawks Power forward. At this point the Hawks are 18 - 22 and have lost 2 straight. They have rebounded from an atrocious start and gotten back on track.

Starting Lineup

C Andrew Bogut
PF Josh Childress
SF Josh Smith
SG Nick Van Exel
PG Sarunas Jasivicius

Bench

C Jason Collier (unfortunately he died in real life after I started my season...and I didn't want to let him go in my season)
PF Tom Guggliota
SF Donta Smith
SG Rick Brunson
PG Tony Delk
PF M. Stewart
PF Marvin Williams

yeah...he'd struggle from downtown and miss shots horribly. Since Van Exel basically hits 3's better he was moved to shooting guard. Childress has been off of late so when I have some free time Marvin Williams might move back in the spot.

The Hawks won an unbelievable thriller against the Phoenix Suns to improve their record to 18-23. Phoenix Suns foward Shawn Marion was fouled with 9 seconds left , bringing him to the line in a 89 - 88 game. Marion made both to make it 90 - 89 Phoenix with 9 seconds left. Quickly Jasivecius got the inbound pass and ran across the halfcourt line for a timeout with 5 seconds left. The rest of what happened was a blur. All I remember was a player inbounding the pass , then a Marvin Williams jumper with .7 left which basically had me jumping out of my seat and screaming as the Hawks pulled off the upset. Jasivecius and Van Excel both scored 19 in the winning cause. For most of the game Steve Nash dominated , at one point giving the Suns a 10 point lead in the 3rd. At this point , Atlanta decided they would not allow themselves to be bullied around and fought their way back. Eventually Atlanta would lead by as much as 7 until Phoenix made it close with less than a minute to go.

I was reading some of the other dynasty stories and apparently people add their settings too.

82 games/season
5 mins/quarter

playoff format-7-7-7-7

Playing Starter Mode

Also since I really don't want to do a summary of every single game left I will do updates to the franchise every week. Whether the week is in-game or in real life remains to be seen.

Atlanta Hawks Update brought to you by Kroger : Right Store , Right Price

Season Standings (before Orlando Game) :

The Atlanta Hawks continued their wild tear throughout the NBA , winning against intradivisional rival Orlando to continue their climb back up to respectability. The game was all Hawks for 2 quarters as the Hawks built up a 10 point lead and manhandled the Magic. Jasikevicius and Van Exel went mad from the 3 point line and whenever the Magic scored , the Hawks answered back with either a 3 or another layup. But , in the 3rd quarter the Hawks began to get lazy. With a huge lead , the team got bored and allowed the Magic back into the game. In addition to their lazyness , the Hawks also lost Marvin Williams and Tony Delk to injury. Their status at this point is not known. In the end , clutch free throw shooting and multiple missed shots by the Magic allowed the Hawks to pull away and eventually win , 79 - 71. Jasikevicius scored 26 points in the win.

Josh Smith says "Get that [expletive] out of my house" and swats away a Nelson layup in the 3rd.

Atlanta Hawks Midseason Report

If you were to say that the Hawks would find themselves 27 - 23 at the midway point of this 2006 season I'd have laughed at you for saying such an outrageous statement. But , at the halfway point of this season , the Hawks find themselves 27 - 23 , 2nd in their division , and winners of 10 straight. It seems that the chemistry lacking in previous seasons is finally reacting properly. The addition of rookie Sarunas Jasikevicius has been a great help to an otherwise struggling offensive team , and should merit him Rookie of the Year or at least a consideration. Marvin Williams has been hitting his shots of late and will be a dominant force in the paint. Andrew Bogut has his off days but has the big block every now and then. The days of being in the NBA's cellar are nearing its end for these young , resurgent Hawks.

Several Hawks were invited to the NBA's All star weekend in Houston. Jasikevicius and Bogut were invited to the Rookie - Sophomore Game. Jasikevicius , with his torrid beyond-the-arc shooting , was invited to the 3 point shootout , and highflyer Josh Smith was invited to the Slam Dunk Shootout.

ixcuincle, crap sorry I missed your mid-mid season there! Is it possible if I can grab your pstat file to compute your efficiency score for your Hawks? (click my sig to find out what I mean) Congrats on keeping the Hawks at a respectable level and getting them in a position to grab a playoff spot...

...speaking of which the REAL LIFE Hawks aren't doing so bad either!

Keep up the rockin updates and make sure Bogut gets plenty of rest if the game is in the bag...you'll need him for the playoffs!

Hope to hear from you!

i dont know if you know this, but you could have just called a time out and would have moved the ball to half court and you wouldnt have used up any time running the ball up the court then calling a time out.

meh I must have been under pressure so I forgot

Anyways those all-star competitions are amazingly hard. I tried to get Van Exel to win the 3 point contest and the first round he was unstoppable. I thought I was controlling him but then I later found out it was cpu...when I actually took control of his shots he didn't do as well. And that Slam Dunk competiton is impossible. I don't see how the other players were able to throw the ball off the TV and then jam it in...As Josh Smith I just did 2 basic dunks which were hard enough to execute and sucked.

Hawks Lose 95 - 92 to Pistons

I guess Chauncey Billups is Mr. Big Shot after all.

Billups went wild in a frenetic 4th quarter and the Detroit Pistons held off the Atlanta Hawks to break their season-high 10 game winning streak. The Hawks had a chance to win it in the final seconds but a Sarunas Jasikevicius three-pointer at the buzzer was off the rim.

"I thought it was good when I fired it. I admit it was a kind of a bad shot..." , Jasikevicius admitted after the game. "I probably should have passed it to Van Exel or something"

The Hawks were left for dead after a horrible 1st half which saw them fall behind by as much as 16 to a resurgent Pistons team. With strong Detroit defense , the Hawks , following the All-Star Break , struggled to get into rhythm for most of the first half. Eventually they began to chip away and cut the lead down to 10 at the half.

In the 3rd quarter a barrage of 3's by various sharpshooters off the bench slowly closed the gap. At one point Jasikevicius was able to get 2 consecutive steals for points off Chauncey Billups. The Hawks eventually pulled to within 2 in the 4th quarter and at one point took the lead for the first time today , if only temporarily.

Then Mr. Big Shot stepped up. He hit 2 consecutive three's to answer Hawks points and helped the Pistons to pull away in the final seconds. With 2.5 seconds left Chauncey drilled his first free throw but missed the 2nd , giving the Hawks a slight chance of tying the game with the score 95 - 92. The Hawks then inbounded the pass to Jasikevicius after the timeout , who then attempted a 3 with plenty of time left and failed.
