New GM/Coach Enters, As Bickerstaff Leaves


Charlotte, North Carolina – After only one year with the organization, former coach and GM Bernie Bickerstaff was fired. When asked about this subject, team owner Robert L. Johnson said; “I didn’t feel like Bernie was leading us in the right direction. I think that the guy we’ve got coming in now can get us moving along fine.” The guy Johnson is talking about is Justin Pierre, the new GM and coach of the Charlotte Bobcats.
“I’m pretty amped about getting this chance,” Pierre said when interviewed later on. “I mean, I’m a young guy. But I think I’ve got what it takes to turn this team around, despite what some might say about my lack of experience.” Some people close to the Charlotte organization think that the decision to fire Bickerstaff may have come to quickly and that hiring such a young and relatively inexperienced coach isn’t going to get the Bobcats anywhere. All we can do is wait and see what happens as the season draws closer.

Bobcats Sign Free Agent Takash

Charlotte, North Carolina – Today, the Charlotte Bobcats signed rookie free agent Ben Takash. The 6’5 shooting guard out of San Diego State brings some explosiveness to the team. “The kid can flat out dunk,” Coach Justin Pierre said when asked about the new acquisition. “He’s not a bad shot either. He can be a solid player in this league, kind of guy who’ll get you about 12 points a night.” Takash will be battling other guard Kareem Rush for the starting spot.


Coaching Staff Complete

Only a few weeks before training camp the Charlotte Bobcats finally completed their coaching roster. Assistant coach under head coach Justin Pierre will be Adika Mbembe, a native of Nigeria. Mbembe said; “I’m amazed at the situation I’m in. I grew up in Nigeria and no one would ever figure I’d be coaching in the NBA at any point in my life.” The Bobcats’ trainer will be Aaron Benjamin, a somewhat respected trainer coming out of the University of Michigan. And finally, the Bobcats’ scout is Steve Watson. Watson is one of the best in the NBA, known for being able to see great offensive potential in players, and also for finding some of the best European players. This coaching staff looks to have Charlotte off to a quick start when Training camp starts next week.

Charlotte Wins Opener Easy

Chicago, Illinois – The Bobcats faced off against the Chicago Bulls in their season opener. The first quarter saw strong play by the guards on both teams, shooting guard Ben Takash for Charlotte, and Kirk Hinrich for opposing Chicago. But the Bobcats’ big men, Emeka Oakafor and Sean May, were absolute non-factors in the opening quarter. The boys in the front court were missing easy shots from the block and blowing layups, so Takash picked up the slack, scoring 13 in the first quarter. In the second, Charlotte’s bench continued the strong play the starters had begun in the first. Brezec finally got the Bobcats some presence in the paint, which would leave Jason Kapono open on the perimeter, Kapono put up 7 points in the second quarter. The Bulls went on a quick scoring run towards the end of the second, but the Bobcats lost none of their swagger. Takash drilled a 3 with 2 seconds left on the clock to strengthen Charlotte’s lead at the half, 51 – 38. To make a long story short, in the third the Bulls came out colder than they were in the first half and Takash stayed hot and the score was 72 – 59 going into the final quarter. But the Bulls weren’t ready to roll over yet, Kirk Hinrich came out strong, hitting a few clutch 3’s and distributing the ball, and with 3:20 Chicago had cut the lead to 9. But the final 3 minutes belonged to Oakafor, who dominated the paint and crushed any hopes of a Chicago comeback. His 14 points helped move Charlotte onto their 92 – 78 victory. Takash was named player of the game and put up 24 points and 6 assits.
