AI and Webber with 26 Each, Sixers up 1-0

Image 92 [Boxscore]

Image 101 [Boxscore]

The Sixers didn't miss a beat since their sweep against the Toronto Raptors as they came up with a big win at home to kick off the best of 7 series against the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons charged out of the gates and grabbed a quick lead but Allen Iverson kept the Sixers in it with big shooting. The story stayed the same for the most part in the second quarter as the Pistons were up at the half. In the second half however the Sixers played much better ball as Chris Webber came alive down low in the paint and Allen Iverson continued to hit back to back jumpers as the Sixers grabbed the lead going into the final and deciding quarter. The Sixers continued to play impressive and shut down the Pistons offence with numerous blocks. Voshon Lenard had one of his best games all year as he scored an impressive 24 points for the Pistons and led them in that category. He hit some 3's and was able to get himself open all night for easy baskets. The Sixers have never looked more confident and are determined to win a championship. If the Pistons want to prevent that from happening, they better start matching their play and shattering that confidence.

Good to see that you got your first win, AI and Webber was very impressive. This will be a long series and I know that Billups will carry his team eventually. Where is Rip Hamilton?

AI and Webber have been impressive as always, good to see that carry into the play-offs. And right again, Billups has showed how well he can carry the Pistons in the play-offs as he has the past 2 years and I know it'll be a tough battle to the very end. And Rip Hamilton was traded to the Nuggets which involved Voshon Lenard.

Thanks NRNB. Always good to get a head start against teams like Detroit, hopefullt we continue to play that way. I hope we go all the way too, because we're set, ready and hungry but it's too soon for that, right now we have to take care of the Pistons.

Sixers Fall Short, Pistons Tie Up Series

Image 111 [Boxscore]

Image 99 [Boxscore]

The Philadelphia 76ers looked solid as they did at the end of the regular season as they manhandled the Detroit Pistons in Game 1 and the Pistons came into Game 2 trying to prevent themselves from going down 2-0.

They got off to another good start as they did in Game 1 and picked up the scoring with great shooting. As for Philadelphia, it was the exact opposite. The fans were getting restless as nobody was able to hit their shots as the Sixers shot horrible from the field thanks to Detroit's tight defense. Allen Iverson got a few key baskets but the Sixers trailed by a large margin by the end of the first and Detroit looked to be in control.

Detroit continued to play great basketball in the second frame as Rasheed Wallace took it to Chris Webber hitting jumpers and getting it done in the paint. Wallace could not miss tonight. The 76ers did pick up in scoring but the Pistons were still in control at halftime.

The Sixers did come out a better team in the second half as they continued to cut into the lead but it might have been just too much. Detroit's weak bench played a key part and Philly's bench not so much. Their #1 scorer off the bench in the regular season, Marc Jackson tallied only 2 points.

The Sixers did make a comeback in the fourth as Allen Iverson and Chris Webber went down to work to try to pull the Sixers back into it. But a few mishaps on the defensive end led to Rasheed Wallace burning the Sixers again and again. He finished with 32 on the night. But Allen Iverson topped all scorers with 35.

Kyle Korver hit a huge three pointer to pull the Sixers back into reasonable range but Chauncey Billups came back to hit a three of his own as the Sixers were starting to pick up momentum. Andre Iguodala made a few drives and connected with baskets and Allen Iverson drew a lot of fouls but the Sixers just fell short near the end as Rasheed Wallace and the Pistons stole the show in Philadelphia and now have tied the series at 1 game apiece going into Detroit.

Voshon Lenard was a surprise coming off the bench in tonight's game as he led all Pistons scorers in points in Game 1. "We needed a spark off the bench" said Pistons coach Flip Saunders when asked about his questionable move as the Pistons went with Antonio McDyess to start in place of Lenard.

Game 3 will be in the Palace of Auborn Hills in Detroit, Michigan. The Pistons will look for more hot shooting and tight D as the Sixers will try to pull it back together and get it done on the road. Series tied 1-1, Game 3 should be a good one.

Well written recap. (Y) Rasheed Wallace really exploded and dominated against Webber which wasn't expected, too bad you couldn't keep the hot shooting from game one but i'm sure game 3 will be a good one for the Sixers.
BTW Great highlight of Webber just smashing through everyone, LOL at the player behind Webber in the backround.

I knew Billups will played better in Game 2, as expected Rasheed also did the same thing. Well, this is your first loss out of the 5 games that you have played. Lets just hope the Sixers can match shots for shots in Game 3. In case you did not notice, L.Ellis and Ben Wallace both wore the same number.

Thanks Kemp. And yes I'm aware of that, Lenard and Billups are both wearing #1 as well but I'll fix it.

Sixers Win Thriller, Pistons Fall at Home

Image 112 [Boxscore]

Image 109 [Boxscore]

Coming off a win in Game 2, the Pistons started with Antonio McDyess over Voshon Lenard once again. The 76ers, coming off a loss were looking for better shot selections.

Tayshaun Prince went to work early for Detroit as he took it to the rim on numerous occassions and hit some jumpers. Rasheed Wallace picked up where he left off in Game 2 and scored several times to give the Pistons the early lead.

The Sixers stayed with them however as they took better shots and Allen Iverson was the key player for them in the 1st. We had a close matchup by the end of the first.

Detroit extended their lead but Philly put together a run and battled back. They hit some key three pointers by Allen Iverson and Kyle Korver.

In the second half, the Pistons hit some big shots but yet again the Sixers answered back with back to back points by Chris Webber. Andre Iguodala played much better than he had recently as he connected on shots and took it to the rim with confidence.

It all came down to the fourth quarter, the Sixers put together a run and Webber dominated the boards (14 on the night) and passed the ball very well (6 assists). Detroit would battle back as Billups connected on back to back three's. AI, AI2, Webber and Korver were all hitting shots as it went down to the wire. Sixers protected their slight lead well as the crowd was on their feet in the dying seconds.

Chauncey Billups missed a long three, Webber collected the rebound but the Sixers would eventually lose possession. Detroit called timeout. They passed the ball to Billups who was immediately double-teamed. He dribbled the ball and took the final three pointer which missed and the Sixers hung on for the win 112-109 victory in Game 3. They lead the series 2-1.

You did a good job by double teaming Billups in the last possession. We all know is either him or Rasheed going to take the 3, fortunately he missed it. (Y) Hope you can take a commanding 3-1 series leads after Game 4.

Well it wasn't Billups' fault. He didn't have much time for a good shot and took very low percentage shots so a good effort, he is "Mr.Big Shot".
It's still to early but I hope I can close this series, thanks Diogo.

Thanks Kemp. Yeah it was likely Billups with Lenard not on the floor. Rasheed's been playing a post-up game throughout the series so Billups was the right choice. I'll try my best in Game 4.

Congratulations on the W...C-Webb with a great game of 21 + 14 + 6

Good luck in Game 4. Who's still standing in the East- who does it look like you'll play if you beat Detroit?
