Gilbert Arenas and Dwayne Wade because to me although they are shoot-first PGs their teams don't seem to be affected by it negatively or in any way but positive. And I wouldn't list Baron Davis as a shoot-first PG, but if he is he'd be right there with Arenas and Wade for me then.

Hi Guys.
Jona wrote:I don't like shoot-first PGs, as simple as that.

Why not? The last "pass-first" point guard to win a championship was Avery Johnson. Before that was Magic. And he was much more than point guard, he was a superstar so I'm tempted to throw him out.

*For the record, I'm saying that a point guard who is "pass-first" is one who's assisted on a third of his possessions or more. Rates on championship PGs last few years...
Parker05: 25.0
Billups04: 24.3
Parker03: 24.0
Fisher02: 18.9
Fisher01: 26.3
Fisher00: 25.8 (he started in the playoffs...Harper's rate was 27.0)

recent historical example:
Thomas89: 28.3 (Jason Terry had a higher assist ratio last year, Tyronn Lue and Marbury were within 1...Billups, Davis within 1.5)

Does that mean that every 25 possesions, Parker would assist? or everytime he scored and then passed ratio or something?

I guess that is the % of passes out of possessions, like 25 passes out of 100 possessions.

Anyway, my choice for a shoot first point guard would be Billups.

I think J-Will is still pretty much an old school point guard not really a shoot first point guard.

Oh yeah and he didnt get his dribbling and attitude from AND1, he has never even been on the AND1 team or any official streetball team for that matter.
