Okafor leads Bobcats past Lakers

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- In only his second season, Emeka Okafor showed that he is the true leader of the Charlotte Bobcats.

As Emeka Okafor scored a career-high 35 points to lead the Charlotte Bobcats past the Lakers in Los Angeles in a 113-109 Over-Time win. Okafor also led the game with 14 rebounds and blocked 3 shots.

After the Bobcats led by as many as 5 points late in the 4th quarter, Kobe Bryant scored 7 straight points including his only 3-pointer of the game with 3 seconds remaining. However the Lakers got back on defense to slow as the Bobcats threw a inbounds pass to the other side of the court where Brevin Knight catched the ball and made a teardrop against the glas with 1.3 seconds remaining. Kobe Bryant missed the 3-point shot so the game went to over-time.

During Over-Time, the Bobcats started with a 6-0 run which would give them a lead for good as they scored 18 points during the extra period. The Lakers had a chance to tie the game with a few seconds left while being behind by 3 points, but Kobe Bryant was not able to get the ball as Chris Mihm was forced to attempt a 3-point shot which was missed. Brevin Knight made 1 out of 2 Free-Throws on the next play which would give the Charlotte Bobcats the win.

Former Laker Kareem Rush, who was traded to the Bobcats during the 2004-2005 season for a 2nd round draft pick scored 14 points as he made the Bobcats first 5 points with a 3-pointer and a facial dunk on Kwame Brown.

Emeka Okafor seems to enjoy to play against the Los Angeles Lakers, as his previous career-high was 30 points during his rookie season against the Lakers when Kobe Bryant made the game-winning shot in Charlotte. Okafor won the rookie of the year award the same season.

Kobe Bryant was the high scoring man as he ended up with 42 points on 17 to 35 shooting. However he was able to only make 1 three-pointer out of 6 attempts late in the 4th quarter as the Lakers still struggle to make the shots from outside. During the course of 3 games so far this season, the Lakers only managed to make 5 three-point shots out of 44 attempts.

The Lakers play the Seattle SuperSonics next as they go on the road for the first time this season.

Great dunk by Emeka. Tough loss, at least Kobe played good with 42 points.

Seattle claims first victory of season

SEATTLE (AP) -- Most players would say that the fourth quarter is the most important one. Rashard Lewis is one of them.

As Rashard Lewis scored 13 of his 33 points in the 4th quarter, including a huge 3-pointer which ended would give the Sonics a 110-105 lead for good.

After playing 3 quarters, the Lakers led the Sonics by 9 points as Seattle started the quarter with a 7-0 scoring run. Sonics rookie Damien Wilkins did a lot of damage to the Lakers in the final quarter, as he scored 10 of the Sonics 37 points in the final quarter of the game.

But it were Luke Ridnour and Rashard Lewis who put the mustard on the hotdog as Ridnour made a 3-pointer over Kobe Bryant with 30 seconds left to give Seattle a 1 point lead. On the next possession, Chris Mihm missed an inside shot before Seattle grabbed the defensive rebound and Rashard Lewis made a 3-pointer to beat the shotclock over Lamar Odom and Chris Mihm to put Seattle up by 4 with 8 seconds left.

Kobe Bryant started the game with a hot scoring run as he scored 15 points on a 7-7 shooting performance in the first quarter. He ended the game with a game-high 34 points. While Kwame Brown grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

Seattle played good defense on the Lakers as they forced them to commit 18 turn-overs in the game, while Lakers guard Smush Parker turned the ball over 4 times. The Lakers started the season with a bad 3PT percentage, but made 4 out of 11 attempts tonight which is a season high for the Lakers. Seattle did the better job shooting the ball as they made 8 out of 18 three-point shots.

Seattle earned their first win of the season after starting the 2005/2006 season with a 0-3 record, and the Lakers now lost 2 games in a row as they have a 2-2 record.

Los Angeles host the Golden State Warriors next who have yet to lose a game as they have a 3-0 record.

Lakers drop 2 game losing streak

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- After losing games to Charlotte and Seattle, Los Angeles finally got the W.

As Kobe Bryant scored 15 of his game-high 42 points in the 4th quarter to route the Los Angeles Lakers past the Golden State Warriors with a 107-100 win.

Golden State started the season red-hot with a 3-0 record after beating Detroit, Boston and Chicago, but it looked like their luck would run out early in the game. After playing 2 minutes, Warriors forward Mike Dunleavy bumped into Lamar Odom as he injured his back going for a score. X-rays were nagative but Dunleavy was forced to sit this game out.

Kobe Bryant had yet again a hot scoring run, as he scored 12 points in the first quarter and 15 points in the final quarter. Bryant also made a season-high 10 Free-Throws out of 12 attempts. He never missed a Free-Throw before this game. Bryant led a total of 5 Laker players in double digits as Smush parker scored a season-high 14 points to go with a season-high 8 assits.

During the game we saw many lead changes. Warriors Point-Guard Baron davis was able to keep his team close as he scored a team-high 32 points but turned the ball over 6 times and just made 6 out of 11 Free-Throw attempts.

Warriors rookie Chris Taft was a good spark coming off the bench, as he grabbed 9 rebounds in just 13 minutes of playing, but it was Kwame Brown who led the game in rebounding as he grabbed 12 boards. Derek Fisher also played a good game off the bench against his former team, he made 4 out of 5 Field-Goal attempts and finished the game with 9 points.

The Lakers shot the ball very well in the game as they connected on 42 out of 78 attempts which is a percentage of .538% from the field. But they still struggle to shoot it behind the 3-point line with just 1 hit out of 8 attempts. Golden State however just shot 2 out of 16 from downtown.

Los Angeles currently has a 3-2 record as they go on the road against the toronto Raptors who have been playing great with a 4-1 record so far.
