The New Jersey Nets opened up their 2005/2006 campaign against #1 pick Andrew Bogut and the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Nets were expecting a tough game with the Bucks who had just come off a 4 point loss the night before to the 76ers. Andrew Bogut and Michael Redd started the Bucks off with a 10-3 run early in the 1st quarter. Vince Carter showed Bogut his leaping ability that made him a slam dunk contest winner when he served up a big facial for the Rookie. The Nets closed the quarter with a 8-2 run but found them selves trailing at the quarter when Bogut tipped in a T.J. Ford miss as time expired

Milwaukee opened the 2nd quarter with Toni Kukoc scoring 8 of the Bucks 14 points including 6 straight points, Antoine Wright making his pro Debut could not have asked for a better shot, Jason Kidd found Wright wide open at the 3 point line and Wright sunk it to bring the deficit to 2 mid 2nd quarter. Richard Jefferson had a terrible half going 0-6 with 2 turnovers, Jefferson’s missed shot followed by a T.J. Ford turnover allowed the Nets to tie the game with under 2 minutes remaining. Marc Jackson mad sure the Nets went into the half with the lead when fed Vince Carter for a 3 and then pulled down one of his 7 rebounds and raced up court only for Carter to return the favor and the nets found them selves up at the break 54-49

Nenad Kristic went off in the 3rd quarter scoring all 12 of his points as well as recording 3 blocks. But it wasn’t enough to stop the Bucks from staging a comeback, Bogut had 14 points in the quarter and Maurice Williams had 5 points and 6 assists, this helped the Bucks to a 81-80 lead heading into the final period.
The 4th quarter saw 6 lead changes and also saw the Bucks up 9 points late in the quarter. Jason Kidd who had 2 points in the game up until the 4th quarter, when he went off for 14 points and 6 assists. Jamal Magloire showed Antoine Wright that in the NBA you have to take hard to the hoop when he swatted away his lay up attempt with 2 minutes remaining in the game. Lamond Murray scored what turned out to be the game winner when he hit a 18 footer over Redd. Jason Kidd put the game beyond doubt when with 20 seconds remaining and the Bucks down by 2 he stole the ball and found Vince Carter for the Alley-oop.
