MIHM BLOCKS MEMPHIS AWAY
LA bounces back from weak 3rd for a very strong 4th

Chris Mihm is making his best run at the Defensive Player of the Year award, leading the league in blocks with 4 per game. However, he had 14 blocks, to go along with Kobe Bryant's 28 points, to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 94-84 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

LA had a weak 3rd quarter, where Mihm was on the bench. As a result, Memphis took the lead entering the 4th. He was reinsterted back into the game, and the blocking continued, highlighted by his powerful rejection of Damon Stoudamire's layup.

Kwame Brown had a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds.

LA is now 12-7, with a 5-game winning streak. In the latest Power Rankings which will be released later, LA moved up 4 spots, the highest rise this week.

LAFRENTZ'S WIDE OPEN DUNK, DEFENSIVE STOP GIVES CELTICS THE WIN

At first it seemed as if the Los Angeles Lakers would steal one on Boston's home floor. But the curse of the leprechaun seems to still be haunting them. Robert Horry hit a long jumpshot with 5.6 seconds left to tie the game at 119-119. But on the next Boston possesion, everyone collapsed on Paul Pierce, who kicked the ball to Raef LaFrentz, who was wide open under the bakset, and unleashed a dunk with 2.1 secibds left to give the Celtics the lead. Then, after a Lakers timeout, he forced Kobe Bryant to miss his layup attempt to give the Lakers a 121-119 loss.

Kobe Bryant had a triple-double with 42 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, needing to do all he can to get LA the win. Kwame Brown had 25 points and 11 rebounds.

"Poor defense at the end," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "Everyone collapsed on Pierce, leaving numerous players wide open. Very, very frustrating loss."

"Misccommunication," Bryant said. "We were too caught up in the moment (that Robert Horry tied the game) that we thought we would be fine. But that's not how you play."

Great pics, Kobe had a monster game! What a frustrating loss, well know I guess you leanred something, never double or triple team a player in a clutch moment, stinks that Kobe missed a layup on the other end too  , nice recaps though (Y).

Didn't realize you had a dynasty going, Isaiah, I doubt I've checked this one out yet as I was away quite a lot before I got mine underway. You seem to have gone some way into the regular season as well.

Anyway, you do something to those pics right, a blurring effect to remove sharp edges? I might try that.

Robert Horry hit a long jumpshit

WARRIORS BACKCOURT COME UP HUGE IN WIN

Kobe Bryant hit back-to-back three pointers to cut the defecit to two, 108-106, with 2.6 seconds left, but the Lakers were unable to foul in time as the Warriors held off LA, 110-106.

Baron Davis was fouled, but there was only 0.6 seconds left on the clock. He made both free throws to seal the win.

Davis scored 36 points on 10-of-15 shooting while fellow backcourt partner Jason Richardson scored 37.

Kobe Bryant, who had 38 points, scored on a three-pointer with 5.4 seconds left to cut the lead to 107-103. Richardson was fouled but hit only 1-of-2 free throws. After a timeout, Bryant scored on another three-pointer. Overall he shot 4-of-9 from downtown.

I love that picture of Kobe dunking on Murphy, it's so funny, tough loss though, it's the close losses that are the worst.

LAKERS GET POUNDED BY DALLAS, SUFFER BIG LOSS AT HOME

Absolutely nothing for the Los Angeles Lakers. Nothing. Well, maybe perhaps a bit of Kobe Bryant, but other than that, nothing. No passion. No energy. No excitement. No teamwork. Not a single sound from the crowd, except the boos that filled the Staples Center.

And last of all, no win.

The Lakers fell behind 12-0 during the 1st quarter, and poised no serious threat afterwards as they lose to the Dallas Mavericks, 116-89.

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 33 points, trying all he can to lead LA back during the 4th quarter. But he did all he could, scoring 12 in the quarter, but his teammates just couldn't deliver.

This was the result of some defense, which wasn't shown by LA. Dallas forced 26 turnovers while the Lakers forced only 14. Dallas had 13 steals while the Lakers only had 5. LA also commited 25 personal fouls and took only 7 free throws attempts, making 3. The Mavs committed 8 fouls and took 44 free throws, making 37.

Dallas was led by their starting backcourt, with Jason Terry scoring 31 and Jerry Stackhouse scoring 20. Dirk Nowitzki had 12 points.

Los Angeles now goes on a 3-game road trip before coming back home to face Shaquille O'Neal and the Miami Heat.

NOTES: This 27 point margin is 1 more than the previous worst loss the Lakers had this season which was 26 in a 103-77 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

LAKERS ESCAPE GRIZZLIES IN 3 OVERTIMES

Again there was nothing. Nothing could stop the Los Angeles Lakers. Not Damon Stoudamire's 56 points, not Kwame Brown's injury, not the rocking FedEx Forum and not even the Lakers' 4 foul outs.

Kobe Bryant had a career high 64 points and Lamar Odom had 24, including his layup with 12.3 seconds left, to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a thrilling 160-157 triple overtime victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Chris Mihm, Kobe Bryant, Jeff McInnis and Robert Horry all fouled out of the game. Kwame Brown also left the game in the 4th quarter due to injury. Despite this and despite Stoudamire's 56 points, the boys in purple and gold didn't roll over.

LA was trailing 93-86 with 22.9 seconds left when Kwame Brown went down with an injury. Horry made the 1st free throw, missed the 2nd, but Mihm got the rebound and kicked it out to Horry for a three-pointer that cut the lead down to 93-90. As bad pass by Memphis gave the ball back to Los Angeles. Kobe Bryant hit a contested three pointer with 1.5 seconds left to force overtime.

Brown returned to play in the 2nd OT but sat out the 1st and 3rd OTs.

It was a back and forth game for the next two overtimes. The teams were trading baskets until Stoudamire's three-pointer gave Memphis a two point lead. But Devean George drove hard to the rim and hit a layup that forced the 2nd OT. McInnis fouled out in the 1st OT. Mihm and Horry fouled out in the 2nd OT. Another Bryant three-pointer gave the Lakers a two point lead, but Pau Gasol hit a jump shot to force the 3rd OT.

Bryant fouled out in the 3rd OT on a questionable reach in call.

Mike Miller hit a jump shot that cut the lead to one, but on the other end, Lamar Odom scored on a tought layup that set the final score.

NOTES:
Tip off was at 7:00pm. The game ended before midnight...Memphis only played 7 players...Bryant's previous career high was 56, which he scored on January 14, 2002 also against the Memphis Grizzlies...160 is the highest scored by the Lakers this season, surpassing their previous high of 136 which they scored both times agains the Chicago Bulls...The Lakers are holding on to the number 8 spot, just above the Sacramento Kings.
