Rosa Parks Dies.

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

R.I.P.

Do people know that the Rosa Parks event (her sitting on the bus and stuff) was planned for months? Originally they had this other woman who would do it, however, she was pregnant, and the NAACP did not want to use her as the spokesperson. It doesn't lessen her actions at all though. Still interesting that most people think it was done by chance because it wasn't.
Bored.

The DJ Show I'm listening is spinning "Rosa Parks" by Outkast!

Here's another trivia, Rosa Parks didn't approve of the song made by Outkast. She thinks that Outkast was just trying to get famous off her (Outkast was still an upcoming group then when they released the song). It ended up in court, I forgot what the outcome was.

yeah, heard that too. but around that time I really didn't know who she was.

I just read that the case was dropped with Outkast but Parks still pursued the case against their record label or something in that light

RIP. Such a simple act of defiance, yet one so historically significant.

That's exactly what I thought. Since I've never lived with the racial issues they have in the U.S., it seems so simple that she just refused to stand up and go to another seat. RIP

Actually, what I've read says that regardless of whether it was planned or not, there were literally tens of other acts of defiance of the same method in the years prior, even as early as 1944, but it wasn't until a member of the NAACP (Rosa was a secretary) did it that anyone cared. Of course this is par for the course with that group...

That said, I don't want my posts to be seen as disparaging Rosa, or the importance of the hype of her doing anything. As the civil rights movement was arguably the last honorable effort a majority of the Left took part in.

Thank you, Ms. Parks. Because of you(and other champions of human rights, famous & not-so famous), my life is easier. Unfortunately, your work isn't done. Racism will be with us until doomsday, so the struggle goes on....
