Day 1 Sept. 2005

Everytime a new GM is hired the sports press acts like school kids after the last bell, and the sign of the new Hawks manager is no exception. But there is one difference - this guy is rare. After landing in Atlanta he got into his car immediately and drove to the Hawks trainings facilities. No photos,no interviews and no press conferences - so nobody knew what to say.
Two weeks later the new GM answered the reporter calls, leading to the first meetings. The printng presses went hot during the last days to sell you the information. One more example of the system taking the power out of the players hands --- It`s all bout the money!
I´m leaving the topic. So lets just look at what the press wrote...

Image
view

Brendan Haywood a Hawk ? Seems like this guy is not afraid - 2 weeks in in buisness and already a trade offer. We`ll see if Haywood can deliver...

Image

This is the new NBA report - we`ll feed you with all the information you need around the basket. Check in for monthly magazines and game reviews. In addition to that we got the Hawks diary so you can keep up with the newest changes. We´ll also see if there are more trades to come in the off-season...

Can`t wait till the season starts...

Day 2 Sept. 2005

After he acomplished the deal with Washington, the Hawks finally have a real Center. Haywood is a role player, murray said, but if he works in the paint he can definetly make a difference. 2 weeks past on and the new GM finished his trading plan - which suprised a lot of people.

Murray:"I watched the trainings camps and saw some problems. We were lucky to have some salary cap space, so I could make some changes."...and he did. Bringing not only a real PF for Harrington, but also a decent PG on board. Its always risky to aquire a punch of new players in a short time period, and the Hawks know that. I´ll expect us to deliver next season - the guys just need some time to get to know their styles of play, so Murray. Finally the Hawks saw their problems and acted - its good to see someone making changes.

But lets take a look at the media - I mean they get paid for having the information...

Image
view

Big changes were made - thats NBA - always suprising. We´ll see new Hawks this season, but how do they look like ? Will they be able to make the Playoffs ? What about the team chemistry ? Who can answer this questions ? The new Slam will be out soon, they`ll provide you with some info - so check back in...

So her are the trade details:

B. Haywood and C. Atkins (WAS) for J. Collier and D.Smith

E. Okafor and K. Rush (CHA) for A. Harrington, J. Childress and B. Diaw - I know its two young good guys but I had Okafor in Live 05 and he was a awesome rebounder.
Image

K. Brown (LAL) for T. Lue - I would suggest a trade like this at the start cause the Lakers need a PG despredly and take anyone. You`ll get a better guy for Brown afterwards.

Maurice Williams and D. Santiago (MIL) for T. Gugliotta and T. Delk
Image

P. Pierce and R. Davis (BOS) for K. Brown and Marvin Williams - I pay for Pierce cause he is a mashine plus Williams is too weak to play PF and I have J. Smith as SF, both got talent - I´ll go with Smith.
Image

PS: Thanks for the feedback even though season didn`t start yet- I´ll need it cause thats just a crazy experiment... what do you think of the trades ?

Starting 5

Postby rikson on Mon Oct 17, 2005 8:14 am

Day 3 Sept. 2005 Announcing the starting 5

After watching the trainings camps GM Rik Murray spend lots of time in his office to decide who will start at what position. Everytime a franchise experiences big changes in the upper positions there will be trades and with that comes a different starting 5. So the press conference was overcorwded and it tokk some minutes before getting quiet so Murray could start...

Image

Murray
"Lets start with the PG position cause we don´t really got options there. Mo Williams will be starting there, which should be no suprise for you. Well, we sure got Atkins, who can deliver but is old (37 years), and Ivey, who seems to be a defensive player, but I guess Mo will do great."

Press
"No questions."

Murray
"Lets continue with the C position, where we´ll find the same thing. Haywood is our man, cause Willis is too old (40 years) however he also can deliver some rebounds and blocks."

Press
"What about Marcus Haislip ?"

Murray
"He accepted our contract offer some days ago, so he is a Hawk. Haislip is the same kind of player as Haywood, but Brendon´s height made the difference (7 feed). But I´m pretty sure Marcus will do good things for as coming from the bench."

"Lets go on. We got two great SFs on our roster, but as you know only one will start. However Smith is a great player, who can not only dunk but also block shots, this case was pretty easy to solve after we auired Pierce. Paul will start of course, because Smith needs do work on his jumpshot now that we got the rebounders - I think Pierce will be able to help him."

Press
"What do want from Pierce exactly ?"

Murray
"He will have to put decent numbers on the boards. We don`t need a rebounder so I expect him to be ready on outside defense. Leading the team is another big point of his game. He will have to gain controll over the younger players - once they accept him their stats will raise too."

"Next will be PF. No big suprises, I´ll go with Okafor. I was very happy to get Emeka, I mean look at his stats - he will do great things for us. After Pierce, Okafor will be our 2nd option on offense, he is a great inside scorer and still very young."

Press
"No questions."

Murray
"Last one is the SG position. Because of Stmith`s missing jumpshot and the presence of our rebounders we`ll need a shooter, só Davis will start. His jumpshot isn`t perfect of course but well work on that - way better than Josh`s though." (laughing)

Press
"Do you think Davis is able to step back after Okafor is your 2nd offensive option ?"

Murray
"Well thats a big question. The whole Hawks staff talked about it quiet a time, but we`ll have to wait for the first games to get an answer"

After the press conference Murray left fast to get to the his team again. He seems to have everything under control as far as this is possible under this conditions. The NBA report looked at his situation and besides Davis there is an even bigger question....
Image

So don`t forget: IT´S ALL BOUT THE FUN

Good luck with this!

Thanks I´ll need it cause the league is stronger than ever....

Thats what I like about it - its easy to trade good players in live with any team but somehow this one seemes real. Don´t know if I´m wasting Smith on bench, tough.

Keep up posting...

Hey man, good luck with this. I'm trying to make some trades in my Hawks dynasty as well. They got a young team but there seems to be a log jam at the SF spot that needs to be cleared. Nice pick up with Haywood. :chug: I might go the same route although I like Etan Thomas too. Ok, well keep this going.

Pregame report ATL @ CHI (Thursday 17th Oct.)

Image

"Welcome to the ESPN sports center. Todays game will show if the Hawks made the right decisions during off-season. However the Bulls lost their first game in Houston they are still the favorite. After leading Chicago to the playoffs nobody knows how far Hinrich will take his team this year. Lets go on with the key matchups."

Key Matchups

Image VS Image
"Both are defensive dynamos in the paint. But we think Okafor will have the upper hand because of his scoring abilities, however Chandler could suprise us."

Image VS Image
"It`s gonna be tough to impossible for Williams to stop this explosive young guard. Hinrich took the lead of the Bulls last year and made good decisions since - probably one of the best guards right now. Williams played solid 05, but he won`t be able to stop Kirk."

Summary
"Chicago has the upper hand in the paint. Curry will keep Haywood busy for the whole game. Thats why the Hawks rely on Okafors performance. On the outside its the same: The Bulls are probably one of the best shooting teams in the league, while the Hawks will try to penetrate. However we don`t really know the style of the Hawks play, due it´s their first game, Pierce will make the difference here bacause Chicago got noone to stop him. Deng is too slow and Gordon too small, which means if Pierce has a good night he could win this one by himself..."

Well, you're using graphics so I don't think that this dynasty can be too bad. There are a lot of unrealistic trades though, and I'm not a personal fan of them but I can see what you're trying to do.

Yeah I thought about that, but with Haywood and Okafor I have 2 dawn good rebounders so I´d prefer a shooter. Hopefully Smith can develope his jumpshot, its hard to penetrade when defenders can give you room. Right now his main abilitiy besides dunkin is blockin...

There are a lot of unrealistic trades though.

I'm just saying that I do not prefer to make a whole bunch of trades that are unrealistic, but it's your choice so feel free to do whatever you want; I could care less. This dynasty could be a pretty good though, I like the idea of the magazines and stuff.

Game 1

Postby rikson on Tue Oct 18, 2005 11:34 am

Postgame report ATL @ CHI

Image

1st quarter (27 - 32)
It was a great start for Hinrich and the Bulls hitting 8 of 9 in the first three minutes, while the Hawks struggled on both ends. Cause Kirk did most of the scoring with thoose nasty mid-range jumpers he wasnt able to find his teamates (Hinrich had no assist in the 1st). Right after Williams made the first two FG for Atlanta, the Hawks bagan to play - except one guy: Paul Pierce. He made no bucket in the 1st quarter. The Bulls took a 5 point lead into the first break.

2nt quarter (38 - 22)
The Bulls wanted to come out strong in the second but this time the Hawks had the momentum. Hinrich passed the ball to Curry when Pierce came to double team and made the steal. He finished the play with a huge 360 dunk. After that the Hawks where fired up until the the halftime break. Williams made 8 points and 4 assists finishing the 2nd with 12 and 6. Haywood did his part rebounding while Pierce, who initiated the run for the Hawks, hit 2 three´s - he made 14 of his 24 points in the 2nd to give the Hawks a huge 11 point lead at the half (65 - 54).

Players at the half

Paul Pierce
14 Points
3 Rebounds
3 Assists

Image
Kirk Hinrich
18 Points
3 Assists
1 Steal

3rd quarter (24 - 21)
Chicago had to change their the gameplan during the halftime break - and they did. Hinrich started to look for Chandler and Curry on offense and Tyson responded, putting in some dunks. After cutting the deposite to 5, the Bulls thought they had their recipe but forgot about Emeka Okafor. Altough he had a quiet first half he began to play in the 3rd and showed that Chandler can´t stop him. Both teams had no problems scoring till Josh Smith was substituted in. He blocked two dunk attempts and made 6 of his 11 Points. Smith is know for his spectacular dunks but he did a great job making his free jumpers today, GM Rik Murray said. The Hawks lead by 13 after the 3rd.

4rd quarter (24 - 29)
The last quarter started and Hinrich responded to the Hawks lead finding his way to the rim , he took 27 shots (14-27) in the game. His teammates started to act and suddenly Kirk was able to play some fine passes - he made all 3 assists in the 4th. But the Bulls weren´t able to turn the game because of the solid performance of the Hawks bench. Rush had a strong 4th quarter with 6 points while Gordon stayed cold, he couldn`t make one 3. The Hawks took the victory 113 - 104.

After this strong start we want to keep the momentum against the Knicks, GM Murray said.

2nd Game of the day

Image

Everybody was wondering how the Clippers would do this year - the first game was hopeless. The Heat took a solid win by outscoring LA in all 4 quarters. O´Neal once again showed that he is still able to dominate by putting up decent numbers. Mobley denied the double digit loss and outscored Wade, who had an average game.

This win proofed that we`ll play for the championship this year, O´Neal said. If Wade finds his game we can go all the way.

Hope you liked the first games - keep up posting...
