2003 NBA Finals Updates

Postby Kemp on Sun Aug 28, 2005 10:52 pm

Welcome to my Orlando Magic Franchise, I will be using my own 2002-2003 rosters as updated at April 20th 2003 and take the Magic to the playoffs. I know this is old but 2002-2003 is the last season that Shawn Kemp has played for his career. Because I don’t have much free time so I am going to make a quick franchise, I will not play the regular season games but I will simulating all 82 games through the 2002-2003 NBA schedule and then I will play the playoffs games if the Magic make it to the playoffs. Fortunately, Magic did it. So I will provide all the 2003 playoffs excitement from here.

"Game 1 Magic-Wizards Preview"
In the first round of the playoffs, the Magic will face MJ and the Wizards. This will be an exciting series since MJ is back to the playoffs for the first time since the 1998 Championships Bulls. During the regular season, these two teams spilt the season series at 2 games a piece. As much as people are focusing on Jordan to take the Wizards to the championship round, the Magic will be counting on Tracy McGrady to take the Magic to the NBA Finals without Grant Hill. The Magic also counting on the Reignman to make something happen for this team and hope he can bring some needed offence and defence to this young Orlando team.

Stackhouse 41 points effort killed the Magic

Image

The best of 5 series began in Orlando where everyone expected the Magic to come out firing in their 1st home game. But this was not the case as Jerry Stackhouse single handily dominate the game from start to finish. Stackhouse scored a career playoff high, 41 points and helped the Wizards to steal the first game here in TD Waterhouse Centre. Stackhouse was on fire early in the first quarter, by scoring 16 points. He ended the first half with 22 points. The Magic throws different defenders on him but Stackhouse still score at will. Michael Jordan first playoffs game as a Wizards scored 14 points and he showed some flashy move like the old Jordan. Jordan said, “Its good to win the first game here, Stack doing what he does best to this team and we are going to need his offensive attack in every game”. For the game, Darrell Armstrong led Orlando with 22 points. McGrady scored 21 points, had 3 rebounds and 7 assists. Shawn Kemp had 10 points and 9 rebounds in his first playoffs as a Magic.

At the first quarter, Darrell Armstrong picked up 2 quick personal fouls and the Magic was down early. The Magic never really takes the lead as the Wizards scored the first 9 points. From there, the Wizards lead by as many as 16 points mid-way through the second quarter and take the commanding 53-37 points half time lead. Tracy McGrady scored 5 points in the first half while Shawn Kemp had 8 points and 4 rebounds. McGrady started the second half with a jumper over MJ. McGrady scored 7 of his 21 points in the third quarter. McGrady also hit a 3 point shot and followed by a breakaway dunk to help the Magic pulled within 5 points at the end of the third quarter. The Magic outscored the Wizards 27-16 in the third quarter. McGrady said, “It was a very disappointed loss but we are going to win Game 2”. Jordan, Stackhouse and Kwame combined for 16 points in the fourth quarter and send the Magic home with a loss, 105-89. The Wizards lead the series 1-0.

Game 2 Wizards VS Magic Preview

Wizards lead the series 1-0

After losing Game 1 by 16 points, the Magic will need to regroup and must find ways to stop Jerry Stackhouse, who scored a career playoff high 41 points along with 4 rebounds. Stackhouse was unstoppable, every time he touches the ball he scores. Giricek just cannot find a way to stop him. “When you are playing defence on a scorer, the best thing that you can do is to contain them” said Giricek. Meanwhile, Jordan was happy about their performances after winning Game 1. “Our confidence remains high and now we just need to focus on winning Game 2 and try to pull it away”, said Jordan.

Tracy McGrady scored 21 points, had 3 rebounds and 7 assists in Game 1 but he was not as aggressive on the offensive end as he were during the regular season. Instead McGrady often directing the traffic and setup plays for the Magic. McGrady took 15 shots in Game 1 that is 5 less than during the regular season. McGrady said, “I felt that I need to be more aggressive on the offensive end. I need to attack more to the basket and trying to get to the freethrow line.” The Magic will need to even the series in Game 2 before headed to Washington for Game 3. McGrady said, “We are going to win Game 2.”

Thanx for visiting my 03 playoffs. :D I'm not sure about letting T-Mac guarding Stackhouse because Stackhouse goes to the basket alot and I don't want T-Mac to be in foul trouble throughout the game. For Gooden, I used him to backup Kemp. The reason why I started Hunter because Haywood is 7'0" tall so given his height. I think is fairer for me to start Hunter, at least Haywood will not always get the rebounds. By the way, Hunter had 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in Game 1.

Garrity clutch 3s saved the Magic

Image

Magic forward Pat Garrity scored 21 points and hit a career playoff best on 7 of 11 from downtown and helped the Magic to even the series at one game apiece. After losing Game 1 by 16 points, the Magic was devastated. But in Game 2, the Magic played tremendous and played like a team like they were during the regular season. The Magic showed their aggressiveness, hustles and clutch shootings in Game 2. Tracy McGrady ended the game with 27 points, 1 rebound and 2 assists while Shawn Kemp finished the game with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Jerry Stackhouse again playing the way like he did in Game 1 by scoring a game high 34 points but his supporting casts did not help him. Especially Michael Jordan, who only scored 8 points on 4 of 9 shootings despite stingy defence played by Tracy McGrady. “I was not able to take my usual shots, McGrady did a job on me by taking me out of my comfort zone. I felt that I let my team down tonight”, said Jordan. Meanwhile, Darrell Armstrong again picked up two quick fouls in the first quarter and got his third personal fouls with 3:21 left in the first half. “I was very frustrated that I was in foul trouble again”, said Armstrong.

In the first quarter, Tracy Mcgrady scored the first 5 points for the Magic while Jerry Stackhouse scored 15 points. The Magic never allowed the Wizards to lead by more than 10 points as the Magic keep the game closes throughout the first half, where the Wizards leads 47-44. Thanks for Drew Gooden’s effort in the first half as his hustle plays frustrated Kwame Brown as Kwame missed a lot of easy shots around the basket. Drew Gooden finished the game with 6 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. Another key bench player, Pat Garrity was in the zone in the first half as he hits four 3s. Shawn Kemp was scoreless in the first half but he had 3 rebounds. At the start of the second half, Tracy McGrady was unstoppable as his scored 15 of his 27 points in the third quarter. McGrady beating Wizards defence as he made 3 three points shots along with some thunderous dunks. Stackhouse was doing the same for Wizards as he scored 14 in the third period.

Trailing by 71-67 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Wizards are running out of gas as Stackhouse only scored 3 points in the final period. The Magic takes advantage of that moment and never look back as Pat Garrity continues to fire from downtown and he extended the Magic leads to 86-78 during the Magic 19-7 runs with 4:27 left in the game. The Wizards tried to make a comeback as T-Lue and Russell made theirs shots respectively, but the Wizards still felled short as the Magic holds on to their 2 points victory, 94-92. “I am glad that we even the series but still we need to play good basketball again in Game 3”, said McGrady. The best of 5 series is now tied at 1-1. Game 3 is next in Washington.
