OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma man told federal investigators he forgot a pipe bomb he built for fun was in his luggage when tried to board an airplane, according to court documents released Thursday.
Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr., 24, was charged Thursday with trying to carry the bomb aboard a Delta Airlines flight from Oklahoma City to Atlanta on Wednesday, according to the documents.
Dreyling was released Thursday on $10,000 bail. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
FBI agents and Oklahoma City police officers said the pipe bomb contained a metal cartridge filled with gunpowder attached to a detonator made from model rocket parts, according to an affidavit filed by the FBI.
Dreyling, a student at the University of Oklahoma, could have detonated the bomb using his cell phone battery, according to the affidavit.

"Heh... Heh... why how did that get in there?"

He should go to jail for life.
Mon Aug 15, 2005 5:47 am
I don't think any excuse would really work in his situation.. you dont accidently pack a bomb in your suitcase. Bastard should serve lots of time
Mon Aug 15, 2005 5:49 am
Wow , he should get more time in jail for lying to the feds . He forgot he put it in his luggage , what an ass.
Mon Aug 15, 2005 5:56 am
oh ya i watched this on the news yesterday...what a retarded excuse
Mon Aug 15, 2005 6:32 am
But seriously. Show some compassion. I cannot count the number of times I walked around with lethal explosives in my pocket, and WHOOPS it fell out.
Could happen to anyone really.

Those damn pipe bombs, they're so easy to accidently pop in your suitcase and forget about.

a couple of years ago i went to see an ice hockey game in january and i used some old backpack to carry a couple of snacks with me. i forgot that i used this backpack on new years eve and there were quite a lot of firecrackers n explosive stuff left at the bottom of it and i didnt see em when i threw in the food...when the security men checked my backpack at the entrance they were like 'what the hell do you plan to do with all those firecrackers?' and i was just like 'what???'...
i dont think the dude with the bomb did really forget about it but damn, things similar to that do actually happen...at least to me.

Let me just be the first one to say that you are an idiot.
Mon Aug 15, 2005 9:47 am
haha, i was in a hurry back then, i just threw the food in there, grabbed the backpack and went outside...
at least they still let me in. after i explained the whole thing they took my backpack and gave it back to me after the game.
Mon Aug 15, 2005 9:49 am
Assholes, they could've just as well just taken the firecrackers, I'm positive the bastards ate all the snacks, didn't they?

Hell, that's what I would do if I had to check all the bags of the attendees going into the game. It's tiring work (I can imagine).
Mon Aug 15, 2005 9:54 am

nah they didnt.
but this was really one of these 'doh!!

' situations where you got a huge DAMN! going through your mind. at first i was kinda shocked too cause i thought they would never ever let me in even if i threw away all them firecrackers.

You must've pulled off a really innocent look to be able to go through

That man is trying to be a terrorist, stupid dumbass. As if anyone in the world trust him that he forgot that a pipe bomb was in his luggage. 10 years is too short, I say at least 30 years.

30? That's it? The man deserves life in prison or death.

Well, this depends on whether he also had any other criminal records against him. If he does had some, then yeah life in prison or even death penality.
Mon Aug 15, 2005 1:36 pm
Who cares if he has any past criminal acts? It only takes one decision to kill hundreds of people. He obviously had the intention of killing many people with that bomb on that plane. Why treat him any different? If he was to set that bomb off we would be asking for his head (even though he would be dead). We caught him before he did it, but we shouldn't go easy on him just because we caught him before he did it. It's obvious he had the intention of doing it. We should punish him accordingly.
Mon Aug 15, 2005 1:43 pm
I think even 10 years in prison is enough to punish and change a person, but that's just me. Then again, he might get his revenge by trying the same act once he gets out
Mon Aug 15, 2005 1:48 pm
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8889620/ this guy wirtes there is a bomb on the plane on a gum wrapper with a happy face at the end of the statement.
these guys need to be penatlized badly. In this day in age, you wawnt to do things like this you should pay a good price.
Bomb pipe story, im sorry he was caught he shall pay. Don't make pipe bombs for fun then.
Mon Aug 15, 2005 6:51 pm
I gotta agree with Riot on this one.. his main goal was to set that bomb off.. amazing how fucked up people are these days..
Mon Aug 15, 2005 8:23 pm

Unbelievable. That's got to be the weakest defense I've ever heard. It's fortunate the pipe bomb was discovered before he was able to do anything else "for fun".
Mon Aug 15, 2005 9:29 pm
Yeah, What kind of fuckdoodle makes a pipebomb for fun and mistakenly put it in his bag....
People these days, he should get 45 year to life in prison. Doodlefuck
