GM Mode

Postby BenJammin on Sun Jan 26, 2003 10:24 pm

Not sure if this has ever been mentioned before but a GM mode similar to soccer manager games would be great. I love to play NBA Live but every now and again it can get a little tiring and this would be a great 2nd option to play.
You could send players to train on certain qualities you wish to improve them on
Drafting players more detailed like other ppl have mentioned in seperate posts maybe even scout players from overseas
Find fan favourtie players more fans more $
Sponsership and all that sort of business stuff

Well it could go for ever i know this type of game wouldnt be everyones cup to tea but im nuts for game like that. Anyway whats your thoughts?

I think that could be achieved simply by expanding Franchise Mode, since you can sim the games rather than playing them, while taking care of the GM duties. There's no real need for another mode when there's already one that allows you to play GM, while simulating games.

I disagree. Playing the game as a player is fun. Simulating games in franchise mode is fun too but it leaves much to be desired to say it's enough for another mode.

I'd like see the game adding(not replacing) another aspect of the game. Running the franchise like SimCity. You can hire coaches, scouts and management staff and read newspaers, get the reports from scouts, meeting with coach and the staff. You can invite fans to the events, make revenue models. We can get some kind of bonus or franchise points for winning the championship. During the gameplay, you can play the game in the critical time.

The series would be more enjoyable with those kinds of features added even though I still love current NBA Live series. Maybe they are very complicated to be implemented for 2004 but i hope someday i can play in another aspect.

I get what you're saying, but I doubt that EA would add a simulation only mode (when there's other games available that are simply that concept) in addition to Franchise Mode. But hey, it's the Wishlist forum, if it's a wish it's welcome. :)

NBA Manager would be very good, because Franchise sucks like everybody has said. I'm playing Total Club Manager 2003 (Soccer) and its exellent. You can watch game and at same time you can yell instructionsto players : Shoot, Pass, Foul and so on. It kicks ass.

I know, but the main attraction of Live is intended to be the gameplay - or at least the ability to take to the court with "real" NBA players. I don't think Franchise Mode is terrible - it's kind of in balance with the kind of game NBA Live is, one that contains frontend management (transactions and so forth) and realtime action (playing the games). Some improvements could be made and it would be nice to have some more extras added to make it more realistic, but personally, I like playing the games as well as building the team and taking care of that side of things.

No offense but what i was talking about is not a "simulation only" mode in addition to franchise mode but an "upgraded franchise" mode.

Like i said, you can "play" the game "in the critical minutes of the game". You have options to play all four quarters of 82 season games and playoff -if possible- games, or just the final minutes of the important - playoff or championship - game. It can be our choice.

By doing so, we can enjoy every espect of NBA. And I don't want the other game makers to do it but I want EA to do it, cuz I love NBALive series. I love to play games myself. I played like 30 franchise teams myself, maybe more. Yes. All for 25 years. -Actually, I started to play only playoff games as my skills go up cuz i find season games too easy. but that doesn't mean i don't like to play the game myself. I needed a challenge. That's all. -

I really enjoy playing them as players. And I also like to enjoy other parts of the NBA too as mentioned in the previous post.

The important thing for EA is if they want to add this feature, just add. Please don't replace.

My apologies, I thought you were referring to a simulation only mode (as was originally suggested). I'm definitely in favour of improvements, additions and upgrades to Franchise mode, though if it comes down to a choice between slowing the gameplay down and adding, say, 10 day contracts, I'd opt for the gameplay fix.

But yeah, improvements to Franchise mode would be most welcome.

This whole idea about GM mode is quite a bad one. It would tilt the balance of the game as it is quite totally and it would be best implemented in a whole new game like Total Club Manager...

But gradually including these ideas and working them into the franchise could work quite nicely... Some sort of money men in the background, sometimes killing trades if the costs go too high. And making statuses for players like "fan favorite", owner favorites, leaders, intensive players, good team players, poor team players, player happiness etc. These would breathe life to the franchise mode and force player to make trades or open other options. And would eliminate atleast some part of the "refuses to sign" bug...

Check out my thread to see what I see as the most important and fixable bugs.
