PlayerDBF editing and CelebPack (do players not celebrate?)

Fri Dec 24, 2004 8:26 pm

Something I noticed while playing in Live 2005, is that after a big play or a big dunk, the players don't "celebrate" or showboat like they have in previous Live's (even as recent as 2004/2003). The "celebpack" feature does still exist in the players.dbf file, so I am wondering if I am just missing their celebrating or what?

Grr. Live 2005 is a good game, but it frustrates me. If EA does a future patch, one thing that would be great for them to fix is WHY on earth can you only use the instant replay feature at times when something crucial is not happening (i.e. you cannot use it at the end of a game to take screenshots of a game winning shot). I have tried using Fraps for this (taking videos is way more fun than screenshots anyways!) but it slows down my poor computer too much for the gameplay to be at a playable framerate, so I can't use it at the end of games anyways (unless I want to lose haha). I have been messing around a lot with the players.dbf files lately... thank goodness for Andrew's guides, really helps with some of the new fields. My other question is - has anybody found a reliable way to create someone with the create a player and for all intents and purposes include them in future drafts within the dynasty mode? I used to use the old "just create them; fix their player id; and make them on team #30 in the players.dbf file" trick in previous Lives, but that doesn't work quite as easily in this NBA Live, so I have switched to the "just take the top projected picks and switch their names/ratings, tinker with the faces.dbf and apperance.dbf files to bring in the created faces" way of doing it to replace an existing draft pick... that works pretty well! For those of you that play dynastys out (as in over the 25 seasons) it makes the game a lot more fun, when you can create your own made-up potential stars, and thus you actually know some of the players names since all the real NBA players are nearly retired by that point! haha Just need to tinker with things more to get their portraits into the game (i miss the cyberfaces in the menus for this reason, but i suppose it speeds up the game) as well as the announcer at least calling them by their name if it's the same last name as somebody already in LIVE.

It's possible the CELEBPACK isn't utilised in NBA Live 2005, though as you noted the field still exists in players.dbf.

Uh huh

Yes, I have just played a game and watched really closely in a close up angle, and they don't seem to do any celebrating. I thought it was a bit excessive in 2003, but it was at the perfect level in 2004, I don't know why they do away with these cute little flourishes to the game when they add a greater level of personality to it. The instant replay thing is very annoying. The team stats being listed as totals instead of averages is annoying... I pretty much just play in the dynasty mode, and a little more attention to detail would really improve the mode SO much I think, as little things like a way to track the players in your leagues progress outside of stats (which are subjective depending on what team they are on and if they get a starting spot due to a trade, etc.) pretty much MAKES the dynasty mode for me. Being able to train the players in the training camp is fun, and the Rookie scouting reports (and reports in general) are a welcome touch, but having no way to tell if X player in your league is on the upswing, one of those players that never improves, or on the downswing is really very frustrating.. I hope EA impliments the team stats thing in a patch (easy as it's just a mathematical fix) but I don't know that I've heard it mentioned a lot in patch requests so it may be overlooked. The rest of the stuff is surely game engine stuff and will likely appear and disappear on a whim in future versions of Live *sigh*

if you want your player to act foolish after a dunk turn their CELEBPACK up to a 15 or a 5! you're welcome!

Is that for Live 2005? I didn't think the celebpack field was utlized.

oh ok thanks

Hmmm... I've been trying it in an actual game, no luck so far! I have been trying with T-Mac, as he has a celebpack of 4, but nothing so far - could you perhaps produce a screenshot or a FRAPS video or something to show me what kind of celebration it is? Are you sure it's a celebration and not just a landing? This would be a neat discovery if I could figure it out!

Thu Aug 04, 2005 6:24 am

i think it was a landing but my live 05 game is messed up rite now, it won't load. it just keeps crashing

Thu Aug 04, 2005 4:07 pm

I think CelebPak is just something they put in their for the future - say Nba Live 06.

Thu Aug 04, 2005 5:12 pm

yea, that could be it also!
