No near-upset this time.

The Bulls raced out to a 39-24 lead in the first quarter and finished with a suspense-less 161-103 beating of bottom-feeder Milwaukee at the United Center. The Bulls swept the home-and-home series against the Bucks.

"We said it was important to stay focused from the very beginning," said Bulls center Amare Stoudemire. "We wanted to take it to them early and we did."

Stoudemire was diagnosed with a neck spasm before the game but played through it. He finished with 34 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks and 2 steals. Not bad for a hobbled player.

"It was uncomfortable before the game," Stoudemire said. "I took some painkillers and felt fine during the game."

The Bulls (54-3) forced Milwaukee into a franchise-record 33 turnovers.

"That was the key to the game," said Bucks guard T.J. Ford, who committed 11 turnovers. "And you don't want to turn it over to a team like the Bulls. They'll make you regret it."

Dwyane Wade had 32 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and a game-high 17 assists. He even had 2 blocks.

"They call me Windex," the 6' 4" Wade deadpanned. "I wipe away all shots."

Colicky Boy led all scorers with 37 points, a game-high 16 rebounds, 12 assists and 12 steals for his head-shaking 8th quadruple-double of the season.

"Bah, it was only against Milwaukee," joked Stoudemire. "I could've done that if I wanted to."

Bulls forward LeBron James added 27 points, 9 assists and 3 blocks while Dirk Nowitzki had 17 points.

Michael Redd led the Bucks (13-45) with 32 points but committed 7 turnovers. Redd will be a free agent this offseason and was asked about his chances of signing with the Bulls.

"I don't know," Redd said. "I'd love for a chance to win a championship, but I don't want to come off the bench. We'll see after the season how I feel."

Bulls blaze past Portland

Playing their third road game in four games didn't seem to faze the Bulls.

"We're not tired," said Nowitzki. "If anything, we're rejuvenated because we have a real shot at winning a championship."

Portland (32-27) kept it interesting early, trailing only by 7 after one and only by 12 at halftime, but the Bulls kept their foot on the gas and blazed to a 164-121 win.

Dwyane Wade got his 16th consecutive double-double with 34 points and 10 assists, LeBron James picked up his third double-double as a Bull with 22 points and 13 assists, and Colicky Boy got his 31st triple-double of the season with 39 points, a game-high 16 assists and 17 steals. Even Bulls center Amare Stoudemire, showing little effect from his neck spasm, had 4 assists to go with his 37 points and 6 blocks, and Dirk Nowitzki also had 4 assists to go with his 22 points and 5 blocks.

"I've never seen a team with as many assists as the Bulls," said Blazers interim head coach Kevin Pritchard, who replaced Maurice Cheeks just 7 days earlier. "I told my team after the game that our goal is to look like Chicago."

Nick Van Exel led all scorers with 40 points, and Zach Randolph added 26 for the Blazers. Shareef Abdur-Rahim was held to 13 points.

"If you're going to beat the Bulls, you need to stop their Showtime offense," said Blazers forward Darius Miles, who only had 8 points. "Obviously, we didn't do that."

Randolph and Abdur-Rahim, who are both free agents at the end of the season, were asked about the possibility of joining these Bulls next year.

"It's interesting," said Randolph. "I don't mind coming off the bench to win a championship...because after I get my ring, I could sign with a new team and start again. Plus, it'd be fun to play with LeBron and Dwyane and all those guys."

Wade dishes a no-look, between-Antonio-Daniels'-legs bounce pass to Amare Stoudemire for a dunk

Boxscore: http://home.ripway.com/2005-6/338795/boxscores/20050311.php

The highest-scoring offense in league history almost broke its own record for most points in one game.

The Bulls pasted Seattle 190-128 at Key Arena, coming up just one bucket short of breaking the record of 191 points the Bulls had set on December 13, 2004 against Dallas.

"That is one sick offense," said Sonics guard Ray Allen, who scored 33 points for Seattle (21-39).

Just how "sick" was the Bulls offense?

On one play, Dwyane Wade made a no-look, between-the-defender's-legs bounce pass to Amare Stoudemire, who threw down a monster dunk.

Just how "sick" was the Bulls offense?

Stoudemire, who was declared 100% healthy after the game, continued his tear by leading all scorers with 45 points and tying LeBron James for the game-high with 9 rebounds. James also scored 35 points and dished a career-high 20 assists. Wade notched his 18th double-double since joining the Bulls, getting 33 points, 7 rebounds and 14 assists. Colicky Boy scored 43 points with 11 assists and 8 steals. And Dirk Nowitzki added 16 points and 6 rebounds.

"We were efficient tonight," said Bulls head coach Scott Skiles. "We only had 9 turnovers and I think that was important to our success."

The Sonics had a different take.

"They don't just score," said the Sonics' Rashard Lewis, who had 34 points. "They also score fast. I didn't think it was physically possible to have that many shots but they shoot so quickly that there are a lot more possessions in their games."

"We feel we can beat anyone," said Stoudemire. "And so far, we have."

Bulls pound Clippers to sweep short road trip

The Clippers brought their offense to play against the Bulls. Too bad the Bulls brought theirs too.

The Bulls had no problem dispatching the Los Angeles Clippers 149-122 at the Staples Center despite plenty of Clippers contributions. The Bulls finished the three-game road trip 3-0.

Elton Brand scored 28 points and got 6 rebounds for the Clippers (21-42). Corey Maggette added 22. Kerry Kittles poured in 20. Even Marko Jaric scored 23.

Still wasn't enough.

Amare Stoudemire led all scorers with 41 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished 6 assists, blocked 4 shots and had 3 steals. LeBron James had 28 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Colicky Boy added 29 points, 9 rebounds, 12 assists and 8 steals. Dwyane Wade had 29 points and a game-high 16 assists. And Dirk Nowitzki had 14 points.

"All of us could have had career nights and we still might've lost," said Clippers center Chris Kaman, who had 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Clippers outrebounded the Bulls 33-29 and got James, Nowitzki and Colicky Boy in foul trouble, yet the Bulls still prevailed easily.

"We executed our game plan to perfection," said Brand. "And they still beat us. That's tough, man."

Really good news, really bad news

Nowitzki flies in for two of his eight points

Boxscore: http://home.ripway.com/2005-6/338795/boxscores/20050315.php

The Bulls got a classic case of good news/bad news Tuesday night.

First, the bad news.

Amare Stoudemire, who had just been cleared of his neck spasm, suffered an arm injury with 5:38 to go in the first half and left the game. An X-ray revealed a broken wrist and Stoudemire will be out for two weeks.

"We plan to put him on the 15-day DL," said Bulls GM Melanie. "It's unfortunate because he has been such a force for our team. Here's a chance for our bench to prove they're not as weak as people think."

Stoudemire had averaged 37 pppg, 8 rpg, 3.9 apg and 3.8 bpg since joining the Bulls.

"That's a big loss," said James. "But we have enough talent to hold the fort until he returns."

Now, the good news.

Colicky Boy tied the NBA record for most assists in one game (30) set by his head coach Scott Skiles.

"I considered pulling him from the game so he wouldn't be able to break the record," joked Skiles.

Colicky Boy finished with a triple-double, his NBA-record 24th, with 25 points and 10 rebounds to go with his 30 assists.

"It was something Dwyane [Wade] and I talked about before the game," said Colicky Boy. "I was wondering whether I could do it, and Dwyane told me to go for it. It was a very unselfish move on his part because we both knew his assists would drop if I handled the point today."

Indeed, Wade's streak of 18 consecutive double-doubles was snapped when he only collected 9 assists tonight. However, he did score a game-high 44 points.

"If I don't pass, I can do other things to help the team," said Wade.

"For [Colicky Boy] to break Wilt's scoring record and to tie Coach's assist record, that's un-freakin'-believable," said LeBron James, who had 42 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 blocks. "It's hard enough to do one, but he's got both."

Colicky Boy wouldn't comment much except to say it was a humbling honor to have reached those marks.

As for the game itself, the conclusion was never in doubt. The Bulls (58-3) led wire-to-wire.

Ray Allen scored 30 for the Sonics (22-40), and Rashard Lewis added 20.

"First, they scored 190 on us in Seattle," said Sonics guard Antonio Daniels, who had 18 points and 10 assists. "Then they tie the assists record on us tonight. I'm glad we won't be playing them any more this year."

Colicky Boy plans retirement
Vows to leave league if Bulls win title
Wed, March 16, 2005

Image
Colicky Boy's first, and perhaps, last All-Star appearance

The day after tying his coach's NBA record for most assists in one game, Colicky Boy declared that he would retire at the end of the season if the Bulls won the NBA championship this year.

"I've given it a lot of thought," said Colicky Boy in a press conference before his team's game against New Jersey. "This team is in such great shape that there's really no need for me to continue. The Bulls will do just fine without me."

Having broken or tied most of the major team and individual NBA records, Colicky Boy used the oft-cited reason of wanting to spend more time with his family.

"I really don't have anything left to prove," said Colicky Boy. "And all the endorsement deals I have will keep me financially secure for life. All I have left to achieve is the ring. Once that's done, I'd like to leave the game on top, just like Lance Armstrong.

"Of course, if we don't win the championship, then I'll be back every year until we win. I definitely want to win the title. But we have a really good shot at winning it this year, so I think it's realistic that I'll retire after this season."

When Colicky Boy was asked if the prospect of winning the most NBA titles would persuade him to stay in the NBA, he didn't hesitate.

"No," he said. "I know this team is positioned to contend for the title every year for the next decade or more. Melanie has done a phenomenal job of getting this team in the right direction. And as competitive as I am, I don't find it necessary to have the most NBA titles. You are a champion whether you win it once or win it ten times. There are other things I'd like to do in my life besides get more and more rings."

Among Colicky Boy's individual accomplishments:

- Broke Wilt Chamberlain's scoring mark of 100 points in a game (101 on January 12, 2005).
- Broke the franchise record of most points by a Bull in a game (was Michael Jordan's 69 in an OT game on March 28, 1990).
- Broke Wilt Chamberlain's rookie scoring mark of 58 points in a game.
- Tied Scott Skiles' record for most assists in a game (30 on March 15, 2005).
- Broke Nate McMillan's rookie record for assists in a game (30 on March 15, 2005).
- Broke the record for most steals in a game of 11 (22 on November 24, 2004).
- Became only the third player to score at least 50 points in three consecutive games (did it in five consecutive games from (November 13-21, 2004).
- Set new record for most quadruple-doubles (currently 8).
- Recorded back-to-back quadruple-doubles on December 1-3, 2004.
- Broke Grant Hill's record of three consecutive triple-doubles with eight consecutive (November 27-December 10, 2004).
- With Tyson Chandler, became only the tenth duo to each score at least 40 points in the same game (December 8, 2004).
- With Chandler and Eddy Curry, became the first trio to each score at least 50 points in the same game (December 13, 2004).
- Became first player to convert four-point plays in consecutive games (December 26-28, 2004)
- With Curry, Ben Gordon and Luol Deng, became first four-player set of teammates to each score at least 20 points in a game.
- Set a new record for most triple-doubles in one season (currently at 31).
- Is currently averaging a triple-double, which would tie him with Oscar Robertson as the only players to do that in a season.
- Is on pace to be only the third player (besides Wilt Chamberlain and Wes Unseld) to be voted Rookie of the Year and league MVP in the same year.
- Is on pace to break Wilt Chamberlain's record of highest average ppg by a rookie (37.6 in 1959-60) in one season (currently 46.8).
- Is on pace to break the record for highest average steals per game in a season (currently 3.67 by Alvin Robertson in 1985-86).
- Broke Kobe Bryant's record of hitting 12 three-pointers in one game (14 on February 8, 2005).

Colicky Boy added that he looked forward to seeing how the team does without him.

"I'll be rooting for them from my comfy chair in my living room," he said. "It's been fun but I'm sure some people are curious how the team would do without me."

LeBron James said he could find a way to make Colicky Boy stay.

"We'll just lose in the NBA Finals so he'll have to come back the next year to try to win it," joked James.

"Whenever he does leave, we'll miss him tremendously," said James seriously. "We've only played together a few months and it's been an awesome experience. But we've still got enough talent here to be just fine when he goes off into the sunset."

No Stoudemire, no problem

Wade knifes between Kidd and Krstic for two

EAST RUTHERFORD - Life without injured Amare Stoudemire was supposed to put the Bulls bench to the test.

Instead the other four starters stepped up and blew out New Jersey 151-91 at Continental Airlines Arena.

Dwyane Wade was two rebounds shy of a triple-double, settling for 39 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. LeBron James was three rebounds shy of a triple-double, netting 36 points, 7 rebounds and 13 assists. Dirk Nowitzki was three assists shy of a triple-double, getting 24 points, a game-high 13 rebounds and 7 assists. And Colicky Boy did get a triple-double, extending his NBA record to 33, and was 3 steals shy of a quadruple-double with a game-high 46 points, 10 rebounds, a game-high 15 assists and 7 steals.

"Everybody extended themselves in this game," said Bulls head coach Scott Skiles. "They really came to play tonight, and we did a decent job defensively."

The Bulls defense held the Nets under 100 points, the first time in nearly two months. The Nets (27-38) were led by Jason Kidd's 30 points. Kidd only had 5 assists while Vince Carter added 20 points and 6 assists but only 2 rebounds.

For the third straight game, the Bulls led wire-to-wire.

"They are a beast," said Kidd. "We've played Detroit and San Antonio, but the Bulls are in a class by themselves."

Some talk in the Nets locker room still revolved around Colicky Boy's retirement announcement earlier in the day.

"Look, man," said Carter. "The Bulls whooped us without Amare, just with four of their five stars. When Colicky Boy retires, they'll still have four stars...kinda like tonight. Do you really think they'll just suck all-of-a-sudden with LeBron, Dwyane, Amare and Nowitzki?"

Pity the Hornets.

The Hornets offense was like a handgun next to the Bulls uzi. And the Hornets defense wasn't much better.

Not surprisingly, the Bulls manhandled New Orleans 160-85 at the United Center. The Bulls have now held an opponent under 100 points for the second consecutive game, something that hasn't happened since the end of November.

The Bulls set another NBA record, being the first team with four teammates each scoring at least 34 points.

Dirk Nowitzki had 34 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and a career-high 8 blocks. LeBron James had 38 points, 5 boards, 9 assists, 4 blocks and a career-high 9 steals. Colicky Boy had 35 points, 6 rebounds, a game-high 17 assists and also 9 steals. And Dwyane Wade had a game-high 42 points, 6 rebounds, and 14 assists.

"They pretty much had their way," said the Hornets' Speedy Claxton, who was held to 10 points and 2 assists.

"I was a bit surprised at how easy I was picking their pockets," said James of his nine steals.

Casey Jacobsen led the Hornets (19-45) with 21 points.

PHILADELPHIA - If the regular season is any indication, the Eastern Conference is tougher on the Bulls than the Western Conference. All three Bulls losses have been to Eastern Conference teams.

The depleted Bulls beat the depleted 76ers 147-123 at the Wachovia Center to win the season series 2-1. Philadelphia was the first team to beat the Bulls this year.

Image

Dirk Nowitzki fouled out with 3:50 to play, finishing with only 18 points. But the Bulls got a lift from Bo Outlaw, who scored a season-high 18 in place of injured Amare Stoudemire.

"We can't let their bench beat us," lamented 76ers star Allen Iverson. "It's hard enough to keep their starters from blowing up on us."

"We were able to hold down Nowitzki," agreed the 76ers' Jamal Mashburn, who scored 25. "But Outlaw killed us."

Iverson, playing limited minutes with a sore shoulder, still scored 22 for Philadelphia (42-24). Chris Webber scored a team-high 36 points and a game-high 19 rebounds in the losing effort.

For the Bulls (61-3), Dwyane Wade scored a game-high 38 points with 10 assists and 8 steals. LeBron James had 35 points, 5 rebounds, a game-high 18 assists, 4 blocks and 6 steals. And Colicky Boy added 34 points, 8 rebounds, 16 assists, 3 blocks and 5 steals.

The Bulls only led by 9 after the first quarter. They pulled to a 23-point halftime lead but never could pull away any further in the second half.

"They are a tough team," said Wade. "And they'll be even tougher in the playoffs."

Two triple-doubles and two double-doubles sink Hawks

James does a reverse slam on an alley-oop

Boxscore: http://home.ripway.com/2005-6/338795/boxscores/20050321.php

This is getting routine.

For the second time in three games, a bottom-feeding team came to the United Center. And for the second time in three games, four Bulls each scored at least 32 points. Monday night, it helped the Bulls to an easy 156-86 pasting of the Atlanta Hawks.

The 70-point victory was the biggest margin-of-victory since the Bulls broke the NBA record on November 24, 2004, an 88-point demolition over Utah.

Dirk Nowitzki recorded his first triple-double with 36 points, a game-high 11 rebounds and 10 assists. And when Colicky Boy recorded his own triple-double (game-high 40 points, 11 assists, 14 steals), the pair became the first duo to hit triple-doubles in the same game since former Bulls Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen did it in 1989.

"That's quite an accomplishment," said Colicky Boy. "I wasn't aware of it until after the game."

Meanwhile, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade both got double-doubles for the Bulls (62-3). James had 38 points and 14 assists while Wade got 32 points and a game-high 15 assists.

"We're just clicking," said Wade of the team's 54 assists. "We're getting a better feel for each other. And of course it helps that we're all pretty good finishers."

The Hawks (17-49) had four players in double-figures. Tyronn Lue led Atlanta with 19 points, Josh Childress had 16, Al Harrington added 13 and Josh Smith scored 10.

"We have a long way to go to get to where they are," said Harrington.

TORONTO - Triple-doubles are becoming contagious on the Bulls.

A game after Dirk Nowitzki got his first triple-double for the Bulls, LeBron James recorded his first triple-double as a Bull. James' 30 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals helped lead the Bulls to a tension-less 137-109 victory at the Air Canada Centre.

"I'm glad to get [the triple-double] out the way," said James. "Since Dwyane [Wade] and Dirk already got one in Chicago, I didn't want to be the last starter to get one. Now we can razz Amare about not having one."

"Sheesh, it took LeBron forever to get a triple here," joked Colicky Boy. "I was beginning to think he was overrated."

Wade catches the feed on a fast break

Wade led all scorers with 38 points for the Bulls (63-3), and also contributed 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals. Colicky Boy added 27 points, 8 rebounds and tied James for game-high assist honors with 10. Nowitzki had 22 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.

Wade scored a career-high 27 points in the first quarter.

"I was gunning for Colicky Boy's 101," Wade deadpanned.

Former Bull Jalen Rose had 28 points for the Raptors (23-44).

The Bulls also got 12 points from Bo Outlaw, who started for injured Amare Stoudemire.

BOSTON - The Celtics almost became the first team to beat the Bulls twice this season.

Shrugging off a 70-56 Bulls lead at halftime, Boston clawed back to within 8 after three quarters and finally succumbed 133-126 at Celtics Arena.

"We're not afraid of them," said Celtics forward Paul Pierce, who had a game-high 34 points and 7 rebounds. "We match up well with them."

LeBron James led the Bulls (64-3) with 31 points and also had 7 rebounds. Colicky Boy was one rebound and one assist shy of a quadruple-double (30 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 10 steals). Dwyane Wade got his 24th double-double as a Bull with 21 points, a game-high 11 assists and 7 rebounds. And Dirk Nowitzki added 26 points, 9 boards and 6 assists.

Yet the Celtics (29-40) still almost pulled out this game. Gary Payton scored 26 and Raef LaFrentz hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds.

"We just couldn't get those critical stops down the stretch," said Boston's Ricky Davis, who had 24 points and 8 assists.

The Bulls also had an uncharacteristically high 18 turnovers.

"Turnovers almost cost us the game," said Bulls head coach Scott Skiles. "We need to do a better job taking care of the basketball."

"No, I wouldn't say we were complacent or lazy," said James. "We played decent. But they played great."

Could it be that pressure to win out (the remainder of the season) is becoming too heavy?

"Pressure?" said Wade. "That's not pressure. Pressure is being Rob Schneider and trying not to make a stupid movie. That's pressure."
