As some of you guys are aware, I have been doing a Knick franchise. What I did was I used the knicks, played Camby for 5 games, and put him on the IR for the rest of the season. I then simmed to 7 games left in the regular season (thats where the real NBA season was upto).
But I did make a few minor changes. The Clippers offered me Corey Maggette for Weatherspoon, and I couldnt turn that down. Plus Atlanta proposed Nazi Muhumad for Howard Eisley. Both these trades helped me out alot, especially with the second unit.
I played each game on superstar, with fatigue on, and 9 minute quarters. The defense fouls were one bar away from max and offensive fouls done to the second last bar.
I lost against Sacramento and Orlando first, but I was only 1/2 game back from Philly who was in the 8th spot. I then went on a 5 game winning streak that included key victories over the Celtics (they had the best record in the league), Miami (they were 39-0 until I knocked them off at their home arena), Chicago, Washington and the Nets. Philly was half a game back on me on the last day of the regular season, but they held the tiebreaker, so I had to beat New Jersey at home or rely on Indiana to beat Philly. I won, and Indiana won, so I had secured the 8th spot by 2 games.
My final record was 41-41, and heading into the playoffs all I wanted to really do was get one victory(Boston is very, VERY deep). In game one, I lost by 2 points. Allan Houston was fouled shooting a three with under 5 seconds to go. I made the first, but missed the 2nd, and I had no choice but to brick the third for the chance of the offensive rebound. The shot went up, and bricked, and Camby got the loose ball, shot a fadeaway in the lane, and it hit the back of the rim. But we went on to win the series 3-1 after I made some simple defensive adjustments( Spree on Pierce, Camby on walker) and Boston was screwed.
Orlando had won 57 games, and had improved its roster too. I had a big lead in game one only to choke in the fourth.Tmac only had 11points, but he made one of two free throws to win the game for them. In game 2, I decided to go for a different line-up down the strecth. I put Thomas on Ewing, Camby on Garrity, Maggette on Tmac, Spree on Hill and Houston on Armstrong. But I had spree as the point gaurd and and Maggette as the small forward on offense. It worked, and I won four straight with those guys playing the bulk of the minutes.
Nest up was Miami, who were damn near unbeatable at home all season. But I was feeling confident, and game one was suprisingly effortless and I won 104-98. After that game I knew I would be OK. In game 2 I had a big early lead(19 in the 2nd quarter) but they came back. But they could never get over the hump, and I won a close one 94-90. In game 3, this series was over, and this is a good thing about live, the heat almost came out with nothing to play with (ALA Spurs last season). I won 130- 110. Up 3-0, I took game 4 by 18 points and moved into the NBA finals.
The Spurs and Twolves were 2-2 after I swept the Heat, but the Wolves won 2 in a row to reach the finals.
In game one, I didn't know what to do in terms of matchups. I decided just to play with my original starting line-up (Camby, Thomas, Spree, Houston and Jackson) and see what happens. Allan Houston didn't have that good of a game 1, but spree and Camby were playing like they did in 99. Spree was taking Garnett to school, using his speed to get to the rim, hiting tough bank shots, and I ended up with 39 points from him. Camby was crashing the boards and even was contributing with some scoring inside. Heading into the final minute I was down 1, and Garnett had fouled out. With about 2 seconds left on the shot clock and around 6 in the game, Houston was doubled and passed to a wide open spree who drilled a 3 to give me a 2 point lead. For the final shot I put Muhumad on Szcerbiak, Maggette on Billups and Spree on brandon. They went for the tie, But Marc Jackson's shot was off the back of the rim and game one was mine. It was good to see how Minnesota played without KG on the floor, as compared to when he was. A totally different team.
In game 2, spree was still hot, and finished with 30 points, this time Houston came along for the ride and scored 24. Garnett had 22, but only Billups with 11 had double digits, as the Knicks destroyed the T'wolves 100-77
I will prob play game 3 tommorow, and I feel pretty confident about winning the title at MSG. I will get a good draft pick too. I'll keep ya's updated.
