hmmm, id run Okafor at Center in your shoes....., then it'd be a toss-up between West and Collison for PF duties... Okafor is a bull in the post ;)

Sat Jul 09, 2005 11:35 am

You could play small ball and have Butler as PF, Okafor and Center and Iggy at SF, Iggy shouldnt be on the bench.

BTW what was with Kirilenko going second and Peja before TD, the CPU is dumb in the fantasy draft.

Good luck for your season, although id prefer longer quarters.

P.S. How do you "dunk under" someone??

Sat Jul 09, 2005 11:49 am

I don't like fantasy drafts, but if it's a dynasty made by Rip32 then I always have to take a peek.

I'm liking the Iggy/Butler SF combo, and your defence against opposing Small fowards should be very good, since there isn't a big defensive drop off when you put one or the other on.

Williams, Hawks Crushed in Season Opener

Image
Gilbert Arenas slicing through the
Atlanta Defense Friday night

Washington (AP) The stage was set. All athletes await this moment all offseason. The season opener. Antwan Jamison went 2 for 4 from beyond the arc, grabbed 11 rebounds and finished with 20 Unfortunately, The Hawks were never in the game. From the get-go, they were absolutely flat. They lost in every category from boards to turnovers, where they comitted 14. The Golden Child of the organization Marvin Williams was the lone bright spot, coming up with a superb NBA debut, with 17 points, 6 boards and 4 dishes.

Then there's Al Harrington. The man who cried his way out of Indiana to have his own team. What a terrible night for him, coming up with a measly 12 points on 4-17 shooting and he coughed up the ball 5 times. With the "Team Star" cloud surrounding him, he needed to step up. He failed to do so.

On the other side of the court, Antwan Jamison led all scorers with 20, including 2 triples. The actual player of the game, however, was Gilbert Arenas with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals. "I'm just tryin' to play my game, and help the team win. We're happy with the W."

One bright spot was the Hawks other rookie Salim Stoudamire scoring 12 points on 4-8 shooting from the 3-point line. Salim however played some of the worst defense you'll ever see allowing Arenas and Jarvis Hayes to score a combined 35 points.

"He's definitely gotta work on that," said Mike Woodsen the easy-going coach of the Hawks, "It all comes down to defending the basketball, and our boys didn't bring any of that tonight."

The bench scoring was a very lopsided 13-45 in favor of Washington.

"That's the important thing right now. We gotta be taking these games as they come and focus on them. It's extremely early on the year, and as long as we don't make a habit of these kinda games, we'll do alright," said Tyronn Lue who scored 7 and added 6 assists to pace the Hawks bench.

Another discouraging stat for the Hawks was secound chance points. the Hawks allowed a crippling 16 offensive rebounds. The front court of Williams, Jason Collier and "Dunking Marvel" Josh Smith is not getting it done on the boards or on the defensive end.

The Hawks, like always, lose big, but have to understand it's the first game of the year, and they have to move past it.

Pistons Show the Hawks How to Play

Image
Rasheed Wallace came up big Monday night, scoring 17 points

Atlanta (AP) The Hawks went into their second game of the year with a hunger for a win. After losing big time against the Wizards, they had to show that they could play ball. Turns out tomight wasnt the night to try it. Only 81 points scored in total for a second straight game.

Point Guard Salim Stoudamire didn't have the great game shooting that he had against Washington, as he only put up 8 points and 5 assists. "I just couldn't get in the flow tonight, My treys weren't dropping, neither was my driving to the hoop. I'm gotta try and forget about this one, and move on." Move on he must, after going 5-8 from 3-point in the season opener he went a horrid 1-9 tonight.

Meanwhile, "Super Rookie" Marvin Williams responded from his 17 points in game 1 to score 19, and go 8-19 from the floor. The Hawks had only 3 scorers in double figures. Josh Smith had a substantial 11, but more notably, Al Harrington, who's name has been mentioned throughout the rumour mill. He came up with a game of 4 points on 1-15 shooting, a steal and 3 assists. This game could be the one to trigger a deal including Harrington. With the suprising 19 points from secound year foward Josh Childress and the Hawks terriable front Court Harrington could be gone any day now.

Detroit, on the other hand, was also dictated by 3 scorers. Their backcourt of Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton combined for a huge 41 points. The player of the game was easy to choose though, as Bad-Boy turned Good Rasheed Wallace recorded a double-double with 17 points, 12 boards and 4 rejections. "It was a good game for the whole team. We's a team who plays you hard and grinds it out, and without Bens 21 rebounds i mean 21 rebounds c'mon man we wouldnt have got the W."

The Pistons shot a huge 55%, but oddly, only 50% from the free throw line, as they only got ten foul shots. They improved to 2-0.

Detroit never looked back after jumping out to an 15-4 lead very early on.

"Yeah, I'll admit that there is a bit of concern in the front office, but I'm confident our boys can rally. It's a long season, and we've just gotta start finding ways to win," said Coach Mike Woodsen, coaching in just his second season as a head-coach.

The Hawks now wait for the also bad Portland Trailblazers to come to Atlanta, both teams are searching for their 1st win of the year.

Damn, you lost again.... Marvin Williams seems to be playing very well for you though, maybe you should try to think about a couple of trades now and get rid of some SF's for an actual center or point guard.

Williams 27 carries Hawks over Blazers

Image
Boris Diaw had 8 points in Atlantas 1st win of the year.

Atlanta (AP)The Atlanta Hawks weren't going to let themselves get burned in the fourth again.

Up three at the half, Atlanta pulled away instead of leaving the door open to another fourth quarter collapse.

Josh Childress, starting for an absent from the arena Al Harrington, Played a very solid game of 16 points 6 rebounds and 4 assists as Atlanta beat Portland, 96-92.

Atlanta led after all four quarters. They were up 8, 58-50, before Portland went on a 12-0 run. The Pistons could come back from even that.

"We didn't let the runs kill us this time," said JOsh SMith. "It was nice."

Sure enough, Detroit has no problem dispatching Portland. Rookie Martell Webster who scored a career high 14 points, fouled out with about 2 minutes left, putting a major strain on the Blazers offense. Also, Marvin Williams was making Darius Miles's defense look like hide and seek with Marv' scoring a career high 27 points.

Salim Stoudamire scored 14 for Atlanta, while Nick Van Exel had 19 points and 5 assists for Portland.

Pierce, Magliore, and Harrington Moved in
Blockbuster 8 player deal

By Marc Stien
ESPN.com

Team official's for the New Orleans Hornets, Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics all have confirmed the first trade of the 2006 season...and its a big one.

There are 8 players being traded but the three marquee players in the deal are Paul Pierce, whose influence on the the young players in Boston wasnt helping much in the win column or with the team image. Jamall Magliore was the all-star on New Orleans, he had a solid season going with averages of 12.4ppg and 8.4rpg but his minutes, 28.2mpg, were no working with him and he wanted out. Finally comes the wild card in the deal, Al Harrington of the Atlanta Hawks. Harrington has a bunch of talent but he couldn't handle the pressure of being "The Man" on the Hawks and that has turned this season into a nightmare with a shooting perccentage of .127 and some bad defense.

Atanta Gets

Boston Gets

New Orleans Gets

This deal really benefits all three teams involved. Boston gets a rebounding scorer and big men to go with Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, and Tony Allen. The Hornets get the scoring that they so desperatly need and have a great trio with Chris Paul at the point, JR Smith at the two and Pierce at Small Forward, New Orleans also recieved Kendrick Perkins. Atlanta got much better with the additions of Magliore and David West, who can be the inside presence's they need so badly and Jacobsen an amazing shooter will help their outside shooting.

All three teams next games are on Wednesday so expect all the players to make their debuts then.

(How was the trade?)

Hawks Fall in OT to Wizards

Image
None of the Hawks could stop Arenas (0) whose triple double led
the Wizards over the Hawks in over time.

ATLANTA (AP) As the old saying goes, "Shoulda woulda coulda." The Atlanta Hawks shoulda won, coulda won, and woulda won if they'd have made the most of their opportunities.

Despite Six Hawks scoring 15 or more points, they lost a tough one to the feisty Washington Wizards in overtime, 108-103.

Atlanta seemingly had it won with a 91-81 lead late in the fourth after a 10-2 Hawks run. But Gilbert Arenas came rushing back. The Hawks suddenly stopped hitting their shots and Arenas became unstoppable.

"We played great for all but the last 7 minutes, including overtime," said Tom Gugliotta. "Unfortunately, when we played bad, it was the time we had to play good." "Googs" finished the game with a very suprising 21pts and 11 rebs.

But Back to Arenas, he scored an unstoppable 21 fourth-quarter oints and finished the Hawks off in OT with a dagger three. He finished with a triple double, 48pts, 10rebs, and 11asts. Atlanta was down 3 with 3.4 secounds left when new arrival Casey Jacobsen caught a full-court Marv Williams pass and launched a 26-foot three pointer at the buzzer to tie the game, the Hawks would let go in OT.

Josh Smith finished with a solid 18pts and 8rebs, followed by Marv Williams with 15pts and finding the man who has shut him down Jared Jefferies who made Marvin shoot bad shot after bad shot. Jamall Magliore scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds.

"This one is dissappointing," said Williams. "You know, we definitely should have 2 wins. But we collapsed in the clutch."

The Wizards seemingly tried to give the game away in overtime. A critical 3 second call on Jared Jefferies gave the Pistons a chance. Stouda mire hit the free throw, but the Hawks could not score on the free possession. In addition, the Wizards missed several foul shots in overtime. Unfortunately, Atlanta couldn't hit any type of shot.

Hawks Fall Short at Buzzer

Image
Juan Dixon's Jumper with 0.2 secounds
left beat Atlanta 91-92 on thursday night.

ATLANTA (AP) One embarrassment deserves another. At least that's what the Atlanta Hawks thought...again.

The Washinton Wizards, who trailed by 15 at halftime, capped off an improbable comeback with a game-winning triple by former Maryland stud Juan Dixon, playing for the injured Gilbert Arenas, defeating Atlanta, 91-92.

Washington went on a 10-0 run to begin the 4th quarter. The feisty Hawks mounted a comeback, going on an 8-2 run of their own. This run was capped off with a monster fast-break dunk by Josh Smith, who had 15 points, which gave Atlanta the lead 91-89 with 7.1 seconds to go. However, Dixon took it right upcourt, and nailed the three as the buzzer sounded like it was nothing.

"I knew it was my shot. I scored 8 points in the 4th and I was just feeling it," said an elated Dixon. "They're a really bad team, with an all star (Magliore) and an OK player in Williams they are still really sorry, I wouldnt even take a blind and deaf person to theys game it'd be too bad fo them to sit through."

Jamaal Magliore tried his best to finally beat the Wizards, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 boards. Tyronn Lue added 17.

"This loss...its somthing you have to live with, but what (Dixon) he said about what a terriable team we are I thought that was un-called for, what has Juan Dixon done in the NBA? Nothing, hes a talkative cocky (censored)" said a visably stressed Mike Woodson.

Jamall Magliore also had a comment about Dixon's comments "I think isa really immature thing to say, he scored what..8 points? Thats no reason to talk he says were bad, wait till next time we play we'll show him a real team."

Gilbert Arenas posted good numbers in 14 minutes of play, racking up 16 points and 3 assists before suffering a sprained finger in the 2nd quarter. Antawn Jamison totaled up 18 points.

For the Hawks Marv Williams was shut down only scoring 8 points, a career low, and Tyronn Lue starting in place of the defense-less Salim Stoudamire scored 10 and dished out 4 assists in the loss.

Hawks Put The Strangle Hold On Warriors

Image
Mike Woodson finally got a good "Team Game"
from his young Hawks

ATLANTA (AP)5-0 for the first time in ten years the Golden State Warriors walked into Atlanta smelling blood but it was their own blood they'd smelt.

After a sloppy 1st quarter, Atlanta exploded in the 2nd, outscoring the Warriors 28-12, and ran away with the victory by 19, 115-96.

The Hawks got 47 points, just almost half of their offense, from their locally critized bench, led by Salim Stoudamamire, coming off the bench for the 2nd game in a row, with 14. Boris Diaw and Tony Delk added 10 each, with Delk recording 5 steals in just 12 minutes.

"This game was ugly for us from all standpoints," said an embarrased Warriors coach Mike Montgomery. "Their bench killed us, their starters killed us. Everything they did killed us. Now I know how it feels to be hit by a train."

All 12 Hawks appeared in the game, and each one of them scored at least 2 points. Seven of these 11 Pistons scored in double digits. Marv Williams was Atlanta's second leading scorer with 17 behind Jamall Magliore, who for the secound straight game had 20+ points and 10+ rebounds.

Tyronn Lue started at point guard for Atlanta a little over a day after his first start of the year. He started again for Salim Stoudamire, who did not play defense at all his 3 starts and was struggling with his shot coming into Tuesday's game. Lue scored 10 points and added 3 rebounds and 10 assists.

On the Golden State side of things, former Hornet, Baron Davis was exceptional, scoring 28 points and 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Jason Richardson scored 14, while Derek Fisher added 13 for all of the warriors bench points.

Atlanta outdid Golden State in most every statistical category, most notably rebounds and bench scoring.

Your games are very well written and Marvin been playing pretty good as a rookie as well. You haven't been winning that much, but it's ok because you do have the Hawks and at least you are keeping it realistic which is what I like. I don't think your team needs changing at all, but just keep working hard with the team and try to get them a little better through training or just maybe make some lineup changes. Magloire is a good big man so just about have all the pieces you need for a solid team.

Stoudamire Busts Out

Image
Salim Stoudamire torched the Cats' for a career-high 22 points

ATLANTA (AP) The Atlanta Hawks weren't going to let themselves fall four games under .500, and last in the East.

Up three on the Charolette Bobcats with 1:30 left in regulation, Detroit pulled away instead of leaving the door open to another buzzer-beating heartbreaker.

Salim Stoudamire, playing with a chip on his shoulder after losing his starting job, scored a career-high 22 points as Atlanta beat Charolette, 97 90.

Atlanta led after all four quarters. They were up 12, 58-46, before Charolette and rookie Raymond Felton went on a 12-0 run. The Hawks could come back from even that.

"We didn't let runs kill us this time," said guard Casey Jacobsen. "It went well."

Sure enough, Detroit has no problem dispatching The Cats'. Emeka Okafor fouled out with about 2 minutes left, putting a major strain on the Bobcats offensive and defensive game plan. Also, Stoudamire was hitting nearly every shot on Felton.

Jamaal Magliore scored 18 for Atlanta, while Okafor had 15 points and 15 rebounds for Charolette.
