Talk about NBA Live 2005 here.

Hi,
I've been working for a long time to make out an issue. I have C-MEDIA 8738 On-board sound chip. When i use it and run NBA Live 2005 with my on-board sound chip, the performance is slow. Surprisingly, if i disable sound chip, the game runs very faster than i run with sound card. I used add-on PCI CREATIVE vibra to test, but the situation is the same.
Why does sound card slows it so much?
This situation is valid for everygame...

sound always "slows down" a game. if you turn sounds off, a lot less data has to be processed, it's only logical. however if you have a good sound card (audigy etc) you will see a noticeable speed increase in comparison to an onboard chip.

Thank you for reply. I want to understand this: If i buy Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1 instead of Audigy, will game performance change related to sound card choice?
Sound Blaster 5.1 Live is not enough to get all sound process?
Thanks...

it will prolly change, but dont expect miracles based on my answer. pls post your full system specs first, cuz most of it still depends on that

My system is Intel Celeron 1.7 GHZ (can run at 2000 MHZ, but no change in performance), 768 MB DDR-266 MHZ, ASUS GeForce 4 MX440 64MB-DDR, Windows 2k pro+sp4, 9 GB free space, On-board sound chip C-media 8738.
But i tested with CREATIVE VIBRA 128 PCI (old card), the performance got better, then i disabled all of sound devices, the performance got much more faster...
I'm thinking to buy Creative Sound Blaster Live 7.1 24-bit to load all sound process through new card...
Can you help me about choice, i saw 7.1 24-bit card with 4 outputs and thin structure, and i saw 5.1 version with 6 outputs (one of them is joystick), SO why is 24-bit more expensive and 5.1 is shown more splendid in reference photos?
