i'm pretty sick of hearing this dude talk.. the guy needs to learn how to be humble. he's already comparing himself to longley's career in the nba even though he hasn't played a single minute of professional basketball in his life. man i really hope bowen slides his foot under the dudes ankle or karate kicks him in the face

Sad thing is, Bowen has actually done these things in NBA games.

It's still too early to tell... everything, remains to be seen!
Instead of hitting other players, he should stop whining and prove his worth in the NBA by his actions... as the saying goes on - "Action speaks louder than words!"

Wtf? He's not doing that at all. He's doing the exact opposite, trying to get people to STOP comparing him to Longley.

Rather than running his mouth, he should just prove to his critics that he is not like Luc Longley. He should wait for the day he gets to play an NBA game and start proving people wrong there.

That's what a lot of people have said but they also said maybe this is what makes him better. As long as his comments aren't too harsh, he still has freedom of speech. I still think he is a bit over confident but its his choice really.

yup, read it wrong. still doesn't change my opinion about this guy being a total douchebag though.

Bogut alluded to Longley's being "a stiff" who owed all of his NBA successes to the accident of being Michael Jordan's teammate.

wow bogut, why play in the nba when you have those great nba-analytical skills of yours...

tool.

Or at least foreign. It's not as though he's the first rookie to make brash comments...and compared to some rookie of years gone by, his comments aren't that egotistical.

The thing is, Bogut doesn't have to prove he's not like Longley in the NBA because he's done it in college. These journalists saw him play in college, they know his game style isn't the same as Longley's so why compare them apart from their size/skin colour/nationality. Even if Bogut averaged 3/3 in his rookie year and spends the rest of his career in Europe, it still doesn't mean he plays like Luc Longley. Awell, I'm looking forward to the summer leagues.

Anstey, a former NBA center, put a formal challenge to Bogut, his teammate on the national squad and the top overall pick in last week's NBA draft who belittled the performance of some of his compatriots.

Speaking on Australian national television, the 30-year-old Anstey challenged the 20-year-old Bogut to a 1-on-1 showdown "anywhere, anytime, and I would beat him."

Anstey said he had been upset by Bogut's comments before the draft about the showing in the NBA of Aussies such as himself, center Luc Longley and guards Andrew Gaze and Shane Heal.

"I would like to think there are three or four Aussies better than him (Bogut) right now," said Anstey, a former first-round pick who never averaged more than six points per game in the NBA.

Bogut, who has signed a multi-million dollar contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, was particularly harsh on Longley, a fellow 7-footer with perhaps the best credentials of an Australian NBA player.

Another former first-round pick, Longley won three championships and had his best seasons from 1996-98 as the starting center alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen on the Chicago Bulls. That did not impress Bogut, who did not like being compared to Longley.

"I've had a better collegiate career than anyone else from Australia that came over here," Bogut said last week. "I'm not as slow as Luc Longley, I'm more athletic, I can shoot better, I am more competitive. So I think it's not even fair to bring that name up."

A clearly wounded Longley said Bogut's comments showed a lack of respect for himself and the other Aussies who had played in the NBA, including Gaze, who unlike Bogut played in the NCAA Tournament title game with Seton Hall.

"I'm disappointed for him that he has made such a clumsy start," Longley told the West Australian newspaper. "He's inexperienced and got caught out. I'd like to see him do well and if he's as good as he says he is - and I'm expecting genius - he should make it. But the signs are not good so far."

Anstey chimed in Sunday, saying Bogut had plenty to learn.

"If he reaches the potential that Luc did, with three rings, then he will have done well," Anstey said. "But it will take him (Bogut) a while to get going. He needs a lot of court time, which is something Aussies have struggled to get."

Bashing another guy, any guy, is bad sportsmanship.

However it's true, Longley was never a dominant C. Excellent passer? In the triangle everyone had to pass, it's not like Luc Longley was ever a playmaker and dished assists out like Webber in his youth.

He was an OK defender, and i think in today's NBA he'd have serious problems since the big men are much more mobile now and it's more common to see tall guys with handles and an outside shot.

Now Wennington...he rocked...go Canada!

I think it's nice to see Bogut be outspoken, but maybe calling Longley slow was a little disrespectful (though he is slow ) I think what he needs to work on is professionalism, but I like the guy's attitude anyway. Too bad his fellow Aussie guys are ganging up on him now.

Bogut did not show any respect at all to his other fellows Aussie players. Bogut promise he will take the Bucks back to the playoffs. I just have to see how good he is.

australia can be pretty highly defensive when it comes to this kind of thing... chris anstey can kiss my ass btw.. where is his respect for the first australian first round pick and only the second international no1 pick of all time..

bogut spoke the truth and it wasnt even as though it was pointed.. I'm dissapointed that anstey (who I honestly don't give a fuck about) has chosen to buy into the media spin rather than what bogut actually said.. and the only reason he took a stab at longley was because the comparison was being thrown in his face 24/7... DID LONGLEY EVEN HAVE AN AUSTRALIAN ACCENT .. about as australian as greg norman's if I recall.. fuck luc longley, fuck chris anstey, fuck the media, and fuck greg norman.. BOGUT IS MY BOY!!
