Photoshop Resource Thread

Postby Colin on Thu Jun 30, 2005 5:26 pm

If you don't have the proper tools you can't create good things with Photoshop. I have been told about, and found, many sites which help with this. I'll edit this main post with future resources that are found.

Tutorials:
good-tutorials - A very good site which probably has what you're looking for. It is great for learning the basics and is updated with 15 new tutorials per day. On the downside some of the older tutorials are dead links.

Pixel2life - Another great site which has tutorials for all kinds of graphics programs and even a couple for using Powerpoint. This site gets many of the same tutorials as good-tutorials but is still a great one to check out.

Tutorial Man - This site has some very unique tutorials that get great effects. However, it is not frequently updated. It's still a good place to go to and raid the archives.

Brushes:
Deviant Art - This site is really the start and end point for brushes. Pretty much every other site that has brushes also posts their brushes at DeviantArt.

Sports photos:
Sportsline - The trick here is you find the picture you want, copy the url and paste it in the address bar. The end will say "_lower.jpg", change that to "_1024x768.jpg" and you get a big picture.

PSD's/Cuts and Renders:
These are all sites where you can find great quality images that are already cut out for you. Many are magazine scans.
Guerilla Cuts

D-Block Designz [hasn't been working for some people]

Urban PSD's [hasn't been working for some people]

PSD Resource

psdestruction

Surreal Designz

PSD Plus

VDesigns

W4L-GFX

L7 Designs

PSD Central

Fonts:
Dafont - Great website. Font's sorted by style or name.

1001freefonts - Just tons of fonts. Hard to find exactly the kind of font you want, but there is still a lot.

Sports Logo's:
Chris Creamer

Logo Server

The Logo Shack

Photo File

Stock Photos:
Blue Vertigo - Has links to all kinds of useful stock websites.

Other:
Chooby's Patterns - A collection of commonly used patterns. Useful for the beginner, and the expert who doesn't want to spend time making every pattern they need.

Brand's of the World - "The primary use of site is to enable designers to access vector-forms of the well-known brand-logos that they can use in their presentations"

More to come...

are there any resources for moderate to high resolution nba logos (with alternates) of atleast 300 x 300? .. been looking around and I've found some comprehensive resources like http://www.logoserver.com/NBA3.html (unfotunately it didnt have a high-ish res logo of what I was looking for)

but so far I've only found this http://www.photofile.com/navbar/nba/tl/ in the way of moderate resolution logos .. I'm happy to mask those (as I did for the logo I needed) but if there's a resource already out there that can save me the effort that'd be neat

Here's a pack of a lot of patterns. Different size scanlines, grids, and a lot of potentially useful stuff. I also added directions and tried to make them as clear as possible.

http://venus.walagata.com/w/chooby/Choobys_patterns.pat

Download it to your desktop > Open a new document in Photoshop > Go up to 'Edit' and then 'Fill' > Switch the 'Use' drop-down box to 'Pattern' > Drop down the 'Custom Pattern' dropbox > Click on the little arrow pointing right > Choose 'Load Patterns' > Find the 'Chooby's Patterns' file on your desktop and double click it> You're done

PS- Just so everyone knows, I didn't make these, it was made by Chooby who posted them at another forum (Climb-X).

I don't know if anyone knows this, but a good place to find pics of NBA players is the NBA Photostore. Just search for the player you want, there's lots of nice high-quality action shots.

And I'm going to see them in Toronto!
