Most Overrated Athletes

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Mazz... take Kobe off your list. His ego and arrogance really do earn him heaps of haters... but u cant deny that hes got skill as many players have claimed he is probably the NBA's best player based on individual skill today.

Cant understand why hes overrated. Overated in what? If ur saying people overrated him cause he's not like Jordan- u cant judge that yet! He's not even in his prime... u can look back at his career at the end and say, 'did he have jordan's impact' and if not, maybe hes a tad overrated. But u cant say nothin yet!

Ur saying he overrated because of the fact everyone overestimated his talent? No way, he is good, not mediocre. Whats holding him back is his attitude and im sure the media does get at that point. So you cant say either that the media is making him out to look good and all. He is a great talent at worst. I dont call a players' attitude as part of his talent. It's an attribute. You could say he's a mediocre character at best... now anyways. But hes not mediocre talent-wise... definitely not 'at best'

Get it right Mazz, take Kobster off the list!

wisdom_kid™ wrote: Wow Carter is overrated???? Carter was 4th in the league in scoring 3 years ago, he lead the all-star votes like 3 years in a row. Yes the last 2 years in Toronto were not good, but look at him play in NJ.

Well, if you compare the number of All-Star votes he gets to the games that he actually tries in, he's pretty damn overrated. The guy screwed Toronto over, but that doesn't really make him overrated, though. It's just that he has enough talent that he could've pushed himself to the next level and be a dominating force, but would rather lay back and play some video games.

David Beckham. Game over.

The only thing that someone needs to bend is Beckham's Penis to the point where it'll be dysfunctional so he'll have to get it cut off. (Y)

Actually Beckham's a good pick. Apart from his passing and free kicks he's really not that special.

No way, Michael Owen is overrated... more than Beckham. Owen was hyped up real bad and now hes dissappeared... his decline was rapid after the 02 World Cup and Liverpool won after his departure.

Tell this moron to watch highlight reels of Vince and see if hes overrated or not. If hes an overrated athlete what about making a dunk and stickin his hand through the hoop or his other 1001 "Out of this world dunks". Hes also a nice guy and is just hated by Raptors fans understandably, but hes not the most overrated athlete.

ESPN.com of course so its obviously really biased as usual, Im sure the top athlete would be Dwyane Wade and best sports person will be Shaquille O'Neal. Soon they'll be trying and making Shaq the Prez of the US of A. :|

They hate Kobe and VC, so its pointless taking any real consideration in any ESPN article, Brett Favre overrated?
Im sure 100's of players come out and play the day someone closed to them passed away and kick some ass.

Overrated = Steve Nash!

Overrated = ESPN.com and Chad Ford, wait Chad Ford doesnt even have a rating.

Good one Jae.

Actually at Real Madrid he has one of the highest goals : game played ratio's in Spain. He scores basically everytime he gets on the field, the problem is he doesn't get as much game time as his play deserves.

It's damn real Madrid's "crusade to buy and gather every offensive oriented player in the world that costs more than 15 million Euros" that hurts Owen. But face it, he is still very injury-prone to be consistent.

Heck, why didn't someone say this before. There's no team more overrated in world sports than Real Madrid. All that moolah spent, and not even a National championship win this year. Noe even a CL semi... (N)

If you watched the 18 year-old Owen during '98, you would've believed the hype yourself.

i'd have to disagree with the "baseball closer" selection.

if it was so easy becoming a closer, then there wouldn't be such a high premium on them and anybody could do it.

but in reality, it's not. you just can't throw anybody out there to finish off a game. you have to have the mentality & skill of a closer. i saw kyle farnsworth throw 100mph on the radar against the sox. but for some reason or another, he can't handle the closer role. or latroy hawkins, who is has impressive numbers as a setup man but is quite the opposite pitching the 9th inning

how are these players overrated anyway? it's not the hall of fame is full of them anyway

Michael Vick. Big fucking deal he can throw hard and he can scramble, so can Culepepper and McNabb. Except with McNabb and Daunte they can actually throw accurately. Vick isn't even one of the top 10 QB's in the league. Somehow everyone blows a load over how fast he can run, well once he learns how to hit water if he fell out of a boat maybe he can throw to people.

Oh and you are a fucking idiot if you think Roger Clemens is overrated. He's the best pitcher of the last 50 years hands down. Six time 20 game winner, 7 Cy Young's, 2nd all-time in strikeouts, struck out 20 people in a game TWICE. You could make a case that he's better then Cy Young and Walter Johnson for fucks sake.
