ASA 5 Chicago Bulls Dynasty

Postby ASA_Bulls on Sat Jun 18, 2005 1:35 am

All Star Association (ASA) is a different kind of dynasty. Instead of having 1 user controlling the fate of a franchise, we have 30 live players from North America, Europe, Australia and Asia! For each week our team plays 2 human games (human bulls vs cpu), 2 cpu games (cpu bulls vs human) and 2 sim games (cpu bulls vs cpu). But otherwise we run FA signings, trades and practices just like the dynasty mode! Our season will start in next week, and for the duration of ASA 5, I will cover the journey of the Chicago Bulls team. Hope all of you enjoy it!

lol. yeah. I thought Cato had the bulk of time at center so I didn't think much about it. Looking back, it might be one of the reasons for the short playoff run.

The Hawks won the series 4-2

Anyway back to the ASA 5 Off-season story.

After a quick playoff exit, the Bulls decide to rebuild the team, as it is heavily filled with rookies with potential but not yet ready to contribute.

At the resigning period, the Bulls made the following transaction:
Cap room for this season at 42 million

Resign Ray Allen for 9.53 million
Resign Stackhouse for 6.86 million
Resign Bob Sura for 4.5 million
Resign Kelvin Cato for 4.95 million

Release Zendon Hamilton
Release Marcus Haislip

The first trade I made with the Lakers allowed me to get a high pick in the Free Agent draft plus a relatively decent player

LA Lakers sent:

Chicago sent:

The second trade of the Bulls with the LA Clippers gave the Bulls a second weapon to complement Ray Allen. While Brent Barry demands a huge salary, his shooting and atheletism remains a hugely valuable commodity to the Bulls' staff.

Sup Laddas! Just kind of journaling my ASA 5 trades and games.

Seeing no better alternative in the FA pool, the Bulls made another trade with the LA Clippers to acquire the efficient but underappreciated Kurt Thomas.

A simple explanation is we deal with humans and they don't necessarily give us a good young player all the time :x

Kurt Thomas had a high overall rating (67), and he actually played pretty well in a sim game.

But bear it with me! We still have lots of time to trade before the season begins.

The Bulls is in dumping mood in the next trade. They have been seeking to trade Stackhouse for a while, and this transaction gave them an extra rookie pick for the 2005 draft. In addition, the Bulls also landed a quick sixth man in Juan Dixon, who performed very well last season with the Cavs.

In a non-eventful FA draft, the Bulls only armed with late compensation picks.
They have selected two minimal players to strengthen the back end of the bench.

Wagner has since been release due to lack of cap room whereas Curry was signed to a 2 year contract for veteran's minimum (0.4M)

Taking Cloudy's aforementioned comment into consideration, the Bulls thought long and hard about big Kurt's role on the team -- he is a good rebounder, but at the same time, we could also use his salary to have someone younger. Hence the Bulls pulled the last trade of the offseason -- a trade with the Toronto Raptors.

In the first week of the season the Bulls saw the LA Clippers released Bonzi Wells. The Bulls made a 4 year, 6.25 million offer to him, which he gladly took. To accomodate the salary and to rectify the lack of big man, the bulls also signed Derek Fisher, Cezary Trybanski, Matt Freije and Robert Pack. On the other hand, Derek Anderson, Michael Curry and Juan Dixon are released to the FA pool.

Yep, Wade was too athletic for Nelson to contain.

Right at the helm of the first game the Bulls made a hasty press conference to announce the signing of a future hall of famer, Gary Payton.

While Fisher is an adequate PG, the addition of the Glove is believed to make the Bulls go far this season. In addition to the Gary Payton signing, the Bulls also boosted their front court depth by adding Mikki Moore and role players Randy Livingston and DJ Mbenga. On the sad part, to make the required salary room, the Bulls had to give up Fisher, Pack, Hayes and Freije. Giving up Hayes was especially tough because he was widely regarded as a good scorer with star potential one day. It will always be one of the trickiest question -- do you acquire a younger player in promise of a better future, or a better but older player to help the team achieve a higher standard today?
