Two bizarre problems after editing players.dbf

I edited the players.dbf in my dynasty saves folder to tweak some players' ratings (like jannero pargo on the bulls), then made the same changes in the players.dbf of the "origdb" folders in both my documents and the install location. I've edited the players.dbf in "origdb" and "workingdb" in the past many times with no problems.

But this time, I got a codebase error ("APPEARANCE") when loading rosters, whether regular or dynasty. So I copied the players.dbf and appearance.dbf files from the CD back into the game folders. I also recreated my created player. I didn't get the codebase errors anymore.

But now I get these two strange problems: (1) in my dynasty, the players skin tones are all off (like kirk hinrich has black arms and legs; tyson chandler has really black arms and legs). and (2) in the regular roster, my created player is showing twice. I did have the created player twice in the file at one point accidentally but deleted one of them, and when i do a find in the "origdb" players.dbf and it shows only one of him. And I looked in the players.dbf and the COLOR fields are correct (e.g, "0" for Hinrich).

Has anyone else seen this before, and what do I do? Am I correct that there are only three players.dbf files? (origdb and workingdb in My Documents, and origdb in the install location) I deleted the workingdb directory before launching the game but still see these two problems.

I'm about to uninstall/reinstall, but it is a freakin' pain in the buttocks (esp recreating the player again, reinstalling all the roster/jersey/player patches, tweaking the players.dbf file again, etc) so I'd like to do only as a last resort.

P.S. My specs: Athlon XP 2000+, 256 MB ATI Radeon 9600 vid card, 512 MB RAM. (I know it's not a spec problem b/c I've never had a problem with the game before, but just following posting protocol )

hey if its black arms and black bodies and everything, i dont think its players.dbf but try copying a working copy of appearance.dbf

hm...i didn't change anything in appearance.dbf but i'll certainly give it a shot tonight and see what happens.

yea i kno u didnt change anythin in appearance but first the codebase error said appearance.dbf so i would look at that first

well i copied appearance.dbf and it didn't work. had to uninstall/reinstall and redo all the patches. lost my dynasty. sucks. but at least no errors anymore...

u should've back up your saved game. dat's wat i do if i like to reinstall nba live.

i think the problem was in the saved game (dynasty). whenever i tried to load the dynasty, i got those errors.

how about changing the database folder all in all.something is not right about in there.........inside the cd 1 there are the files that you need

I had almost the same problem.Your dynasty is over,you should know that,but you could avoid reinstalling.Just copy any appereance.dbf and players.dbf to your workingdb,currentdb and orioriginaldb folders at your My documents/NBA LIVE 2005/database.

its strange that you guys cant get it to work, i had problem before but i was able to fix it and continue my dynasty

I did copy the players.dbf and appearance.dbf from CD1 to the working db, current and origdb folders. But I think the dynasty files are in a different directory altogether in My Documents (don't remember offhand and I'm at work now). So it was fine in regular mode, but hosed when I tried to load a dynasty.
