For some reason Boston holds the tiebreaker, i cant see why though. We have a better division record (11-2 to 7-4) and a better conference record (29-13 to 23-19) and we have beaten them both times right now (101-90 in the 1st game, 82-78 in the second. I dont know if they are using non-conf. records to determine the winner, where Boston has a better record than us (18-12 to 12-18).

SIXERS 113
CELTICS 116

Sixers rally falls short.
Image
Paul Pierce hits a rare 4 point play when it counted the most.
The Sixers were down by 7 with 2 minutes left. Then, things started rolling they made some key passes and shots, and played defense the whole time. They were down by one when Sarunas Jasikevicius threw the ball away to Ricky Davis. On the other hand, the Celtics made a wacky shot that killed the Sixers for good.

Player of the Game: Gary Payton. He had 30 points and 13-18 from the free throw line.

Key Stat of the Game: FT Attempts: BOS 50 PHI 21

Image
Pargo steals the ball

INJURY REPORT
Sam Dalembert banged up his left knee in the 2nd qtr. He has a broken bone in his foot, though not as serious as Allen Iverson or Willie Greens broken bone in foot were. He will be out for 10 days.
Image
"How come they never get injured?"

New Starting Lineup
C M. Jackson
PF C. Webber
SF A. McKie
SG S. Jasikevicius
PG J. Pargo

The Sixers (41-32) face Charlotte (27-45)

Any lineup suggestions for the banged-up Sixers. On the bench is R. Rogers, J. Davis, M. Bradley, and M. Barnes.

CAVS 106
SIXERS 105

Sixers lose game, another player, clinch playoff spot.
Image
Despite the fact that Drew Gooden fouled out on this play, the Sixers weren't able to get the job done. Trailing by 9 with a minute to go, Philly tried to rally. They tied it on this 3 by Jannero Pargo.
Image But when the Cavs went back up the court, Rodney Rogers fouled Jiri Welsch at the 3pt line with 2.5 seconds left. He made the first, and made sure to brick the last as the Sixers had no TO's. Webber just threw it up and it didn't go in.

Player of the Game: LeBron James showed why he should be the MVP after posting 33 points, 12 boards, 3 steals and 3 blocks.

Key Stat of the Game: Yeah, the Sixers shot 23-25 for an excellent 92% from the line, but the Cavs had 22 more FT attempts and made 34 of them.

INJURY REPORT
Another injury. Even when I didn't tell you you knew it was going to happen. The Sixers are now down to 8 players. Here's the report

Michael Bradley played only 1 minute in last night's game. The result...
Image
Ouch. Fortunately, If anyone was injured, it was him. He has a torn achilles tendon sidelining him for two weeks.

The Sixers will not change their starting lineup, however, Rodney Rogers probably would have got a starting spot if it weren't for that dumb foul at the end of the game.

Despite the loss, the Sixers learned that they clinched a playoff spot. Orlando had a game last night too, and were blown out 112-79 by Detroit.

Tonight the Sixers (42-33) will go to the MCI Center to face the Wizards (31-44).

All my players are getting banged up. At least everyone gets playing time.

But I guarantee there will be no injuries against Boston (since you need a minumum of 8 players, the game will automatically make sure no one gets injured)

By the way my injury slider is set at 100.
Should I bring it down?

Even though it was kind of useless because I knew that there would be no injuries, i brought it down to 90. Anyways here's the recap for the game against Boston.
CELTICS 104
SIXERS 113

Sixers pull away late
The Sixers did not have Chris Webber for most of the final quarter, because he fouled out.
Image
Before that though, Boston was rolling. They never trailed for most of the game on plays that increased their momentum like Tony Allen dunking over Sarunas Jasikevicius.
Image
However, by the end of the 3rd, the Sixers were only down by 1, helped by a 4 point play by Josh Davis.
Image
When Aaron McKie gave the Sixers their first lead, it was over. Philly was rolling and that was it.

Player of the Game: Marc Jackson had his best game this year with 27 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 blocks. Here, Jackson scores 2 of those 27 points.
Image

Key Stat of the Game: Philly had 24 assists compared to Bostons 9. Jackson and Jannero Pargo each had 7.

Lineup Changes: Josh Davis will be in the starting lineup next game. He had 23 points and will replace Rodney Rogers in the lineup (who went scoreless on 0-8 shooting)

INJURY REPORT
No one was injured in this game.
The injuries of four Sixers are getting very close to being a lot better. Allen Iverson, Willie Green, Sam Dalembert, and Andre Iguodala should be back on the court soon.

Next game is against the 49-28 Heat.

We have learned further information on these 4 injuries.
Allen Iverson has a bone spur in his foot. He might possibly play the final game against Atlanta, but he will likely sit that one out to get prepared for the playoffs. However, Iverson's injury is far less serious than Willie Green's. Even though Green has the same injury, he will be gone for two weeks and might not be ready for the start of the playoffs.
Andre Iguodala has a sore thumb. However, he will be starting next game. Coach O'Brien has chosen to make Josh Davis the first option off the bench.
Sam Dalembert has a sore foot. He will not start against the Heat. He will come off the bench.

Probably I'll stop using throwbacks for the rest of the year. Sometimes I randomly pick ugly uniforms for games.

It was the last game of the year, very pointless game didn't feel like playing it, and somehow we lost.

END OF SEASON REPORT
The season was a wild one for the Philadelphia 76ers, including many ups and downs. We won the first 5 games this year, then we lost 5. We had other streaks like this (6 out of 7 in mid-december, then lose 4 outta 6). After that came the All-Star break. Iverson and Webber went for the Sixers, who were on the dominating east squad with Antoine Walker taking home MVP honors. Andre Iguodala went to the rookie challenge, where they upset the sophs, and Iggy won the slam dunk contest. The GM's fell asleep at the deadline, no trades were made.
Then came the months of March and April, and the Sixers were all banged up. Major injuries occured to 6 Sixers in these 2 months, all lasting from a week to 6 weeks. Green, Iverson, Korver, Bradley, Iguodala, Dalembert all went down. But when they got their playing time, the bench players were great. Chris Webber was able to step up as the leader of the team while AI was out. Jannero Pargo turned into a good point guard. Everyone but Mike Bradley and Matt Barnes started at least one game, and every player played (except Mashburn).
FINAL RECORD: 45-37

TEAM STATS
SCORING
The Dallas Mavericks explosive offense had 100.5 PPG, just barely edging the Suns (100.4) and the Rockets (100.3) The Magic had the worst offense at 88.5 PPG. The Hawks were second to worst with 89.8 PPG. Philly was above average in scoring, finishing 11th with 96.5 PPG.
REBOUNDING
A big surprise here. The Milwaukee Bucks, led by Joe Smith's 10.6 RPG, overall had 45.2 RPG, barely edging New Orleans (45.1) and Atlanta (44.7). Another surprise: Tim Duncan and the Spurs were the worst rebounding team (40 RPG). The second worst rebounding team: Kevin Garnett and Minnesota (40.3) But look at this pattern. The top rebounding teams are horrible, while the worst rebounding teams are some of the best in the NBA. Phlly finished 12th in rebounding with 43.8 RPG.
PASSING
Tracy McGrady and the Houston Rockets loved passing, leading the league wih 25 assists per game, just barely beating Sacramento, LA Lakers (both at 24.9) and New Jersey (24.8) Portland was the worst passing team at 20.5 APG, followed by Toronto (21.2) Philly was 10th with 23.2 APG.
BLOCKING
Ben Wallace and the mighty Detroit Pistons were the best blocking team in the NBA with almost 8 blocks per game (7.9) Without Carlos Boozer and Andrei Kirilenko, Utah was the worst blocking team with 4.2 BPG. The Sixers were 14th at 5.5 BPG.
STEALING
The San Antonio Spurs had 5 guys on their team with at least 1 steal per game (Bowen, Barry, Parker, Duncan, Ginobli, in that order) and paced the league with 9.3 SPG, who edged out Boston (9.2) and Philly (9) who would have led the league in stealing if Allen Iverson did not get hurt. Utah was the worst stealing team (6.8)
From now on I will just give the top and bottom numbers for each stat, and Philly's numbers.
TURNOVERS
Most: Washington (16.1 TPG)
Least: Miami (11.9)
Philly: 16th (13.5)
FG %
Best: Miami 46.1%
Worst: Indiana 40.5 %
Philly: 7th 45%
3PT %
Best: Memphis (38.23%) barely over Minnesota (38.18%)
Worst: Orlando (28.8%)
Philly: 26th (30.9%)
FT %
Best: Dallas 82.6%
Worst: Golden State 69.5%
Philly: 16th 76.3%
Next update will be the league leaders.

LEAGUE LEADERS

POINTS
Image
Without Zach Randolph, Shareef Abdur-Rahim had to help carry the load for the Trailblazers, leading the league with 25.5 PPG.

FG%
Image
Shaq helped Miami win a lot by hitting his shots and not missing them. A perennial leader in this category, the Diesel shot 57.3%.

3PT%
Image
Ray Allen hit all the big 3s down for the Seattle Sonics, coming in at a clean 43% and making a case as the league's best 3-point shooter.

FT%
Image
Steve Nash had the best free throw shooting year of anyone in history, destroying the old record of Calvin Murphy (95.1%) Nash hit 98.9% from the line and was 354-358.

OFFENSIVE REBOUNDING
Image
No surprise here. Big Ben Wallace leads the league with 4 offensive boards a game.

DEFENSIVE REBOUNDING
Image
Elton Brand made his mark as one of the best rebounders in the NBA this year. He helped hold the opponents to one shot with his 9.2 defensive boards a game.

REBOUNDING
Image
Elton Brand rebounded everywhere, beating the likes of Duncan, Shaq, Garnett, the Beast, and C-Webb by grabbing 13 boards each night.

BLOCKING
Image
The Beast won this title also with no surprise, creating defensive excitement with his 2.5 blocks per game.

STEALING
Image
Despite missing 23 games with an injury, AI still led the league in steals, taking the ball away from the other team 2.63 times a night.

ASSISTS
Image
Stephon Marbury shook off criticism from the New York media about whether he was a "ball hog". He dished out 7.6 assists per game and led the Knicks to the playoffs. They will be facing Miami, and Knicks fans are praying for another 8 over 1, like in 1999.

MINUTES
Image
With all those points your going to have to bet Reef got a lot of minutes. He did, and led the league by playing 41.6 minutes a night.

Next update will be tomorrow.

Yeah i thought it was sort of weird to see Reef up there over everyone else. It has to do with the injury to Zach Randolph. That freed him up to start and he got a lot of points.

SEASON STANDINGS
Image
In this tough division, Philly lost 4 of 5 down the stretch (including a home loss to Atlanta) to lose contention for the division and home court advantage in the playoffs. 4 teams made it here.
Image
Detroit easily wins the division, beating out Cleveland and LeBron James. Indiana also makes it, despite the season-long suspension of Ron Artest.
Image
The Miami Heat roll in the southeast, while everyone else misses out, including the Magic, who lost a tiebreaker to New York.
Image
The Kings were able to do it without Chris Webber, beating everyone in the Pacific. The Suns and the new-look Lakers also make it.
Image
No contest here. Minnesota easily wins the division, while everyone else will watch the playoffs in the northwest.
Image
Big surprise here. The very deep Grizzlies win this division, followed by the 3 Texas teams who also made it.

MVP CANDIDATES
Image
More about this coming up in my awards preview.

PLAYERS OF THE MONTH

EAST PLAYER
Image
LeBron James continues his MVP type year as the Cavaliers take home court advantage away from the Sixers and make the playoffs.

WEST PLAYER
Image
Mighty Mouse had a great year, along with Shareef Abdur-Rahim, on the 3rd-worst team the Portland Trailblazers. Look for both guys to be handed big bucks by better teams at the free agent market.

EAST ROOKIE
Image
Luol Deng continues to be good for the Bulls, who missed the playoffs by only 2 games and should be a threat next year.

WEST ROOKIE
Image
In a very weak West rookie class, Kris Humphries gets playing time for the awful Jazz, who were by far the worst team in the NBA.

2005 NBA AWARDS PREVIEW

MVP
Obviously, the nominees are the ones that were "mvp candidates" at the end of the season.

LeBron James
LeBron stepped it up one notch this year, getting higher averages in about every stat and leading the Cavs to the playoffs. The current favorite.

Tim Duncan
Once again the best player on the San Antonio Spurs. Had another 20-10 season for the 3rd best team in the league(58-24)

Shaquille O'Neal
The Diesel had a great year, continuing to be the best center in the NBA. His acquisition is why the Miami Heat have the best record in the East (53-29)

Kevin Garnett
Once again having an MVP-type year for the T-Wolves, who tied the Grizzlies for the best record in the NBA (61-21) His consistent play will help Minnesota contend in the playoffs.

Elton Brand
A very underrated player, Brand led the league in rebounding, beating all the guys above. However, helping your team win is important for an MVP, and he could not accomplish that (32-50)

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Ben Wallace
The Beast was once again very good, averaging 2.5 blocks and over 1.5 steals for the mighty Detroit Pistons.

Bruce Bowen
Bowen is a great lock-down defender. He had 1.8 steals and was very good at limiting the points his opponent would score.

Tim Duncan
Duncan was very good at the defensive end, averaging over 2 blocks and almost 1.5 steals per game.

Kevin Garnett
Garnett was also getting the job done on D, averaging 1.8 blocks and 1.6 steals per game.

Allen Iverson
Iverson led the league with 2.63 steals per game. However, AI's chances of winning this are small. He missed 23 games, which cuts down the chances.

SIXTH MAN

Karl Malone
The Mailman had to play off the bench for the hawks, but did ok in his final season, averaging 10 points and 5.5 boards a night.

David Wesley
He played very well for Houston, averaging 11 points and shooting 39% from behind the arc this season.

Baron Davis
Had to split time with Derek Fisher (started only 39 games) but still averaged 14.5 points per game. Expect an angry B. Diddy to demand a trade in the offseason due to "lack of playing time"

Stephen Jackson
Did very well in the sixth man role, averaging 15.6 points on the beat-up Pacers, who, other than Reggie Miller, did not have a player start more than 45 games.

Wally Sczerbiak
Wally averaged 10.4 points per game, including almost 40% from behind the arc, for the T-Wolves.

Manu Ginobli
Lost the starting job, but still averaged 10 points a game for the Spurs.

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER

Chris Webber
After an injury spoiled his 03-04 season, C-Webb bounced back to score 20 points per game and grab 11 boards per game.

Damon Stoudamire
Mighty Mouse had a great year, averaging 21 points and 6.6 assists to go along with an almost 90% clip from the free throw line.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Reef surprised everyone by leading the league in scoring (25.5 ppg) He also had 10 rebounds a night for the woeful Trailblazers.

Matt Harpring
Had a great year for Utah, averaging 22.1 points and 9.5 rebounds a night. One of very few highs for the Jazz (16-66, worst in NBA)

Raja Bell
Bell also had a very good year, averaging 18.3 points per game. It's also his contract year, meaning some teams are going to wanna pay him big bucks, like the Suns :D

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Emeka Okafor
The current favorite for the award. Averaged 16.1 points and almost 12 rebounds for the Bobcats, who actually won 30 games in their first year.

Ben Gordon
Had a very good rookie year, averaging almost 20 points a night. His stellar performance has Chicago fans hoping he will be like their prized rookie from 20 years ago. (Hint, hint)

Dwight Howard
The high school phenom was a very important player to the Magic, averaging 16.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per night. Has a lot of upside.

Andre Iguodala
Iggy was a very good player for the Sixers this year, averaging 15.4 points per game and exciting fans by winning the slam dunk contest.

Alex Buckley
Buckley was awesome for the Hornets, who were playing .500 until he was injured. That cost New Orleans the playoffs, and most likely, a chance for Buckley to win rookie of the year.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Mike Fratello
Fratello was able to bring a very deep Grizzlies team into the playoffs with surprisingly the best record in the NBA. Memphis has no real superstars, but they won by playing as a team.

Kevin McHale
The former Celtic was great in most likely his only year as the T-Wolves head coach, leading them to a 61-21 record.

Gregg Popovich
Poppovich has been very good this year, leading the Spurs to the 3rd best record in the league, and hoping to win his 3rd title in 7 years.

Avery Johnson
Johnson learned a lot this year as a rookie head coach, and his fiery attitude helped Dallas become the 4th best team in the NBA.

Stan Van Gundy
Coached the best team in the East in the Miami Heat. Was able to let Shaq get the ball and play very well.

There will be polls for each of these awards. Once i collect 25 votes, I will switch to the next category. It will go like this until each poll is done. Once the winners are announced, I will announce who won the fan vote and who actually won.

Next update: The playoff preview.

2005 PLAYOFF PREVIEW

WEST
Image

Grizzlies over Lakers 4-2
The Grizzlies have been very good the whole year, and Kobe Bryant and co. won't be able to ruin what has happened. Even though Bryant and his playoff greatness will be able to win a few games on their home court, I just don't see them winning.

Spurs over Mavericks 4-1
San Antonio and Tim Duncan will not lose to the Dallas Mavericks, who have a rookie head coach. Dallas will steal one game but that will be it as the Spurs roll.

Rockets over Kings 4-3
Tracy McGrady is back in the playoffs this year, and he will perfrom very well against Sacramento. Expect a clutch performance out of him in game 7.

Suns over T-Wolves 4-3
The Suns are a true underdog in this series, but quality starters at every position, plus many 3-point weapons, will stop Garnett and Minnesota. The first-round curse for KG comes back after it ended last season.

Heat over Knicks 4-0
There will be no miracles this time. Shaq and the Heat will roll in a lopsided series.

Sixers over Cavs 4-2
The Sixers now have all of their players back, and when they are healthy, they are good. Look for the Sixers to play well and move on.

Celtics over Nets 4-2
The Nets have 3 very good players in Kidd, Carter, and Jefferson. However, a weak frontcourt will hurt New Jersey against the Celtics. Look for Antoine Walker to have a big series against some weak New Jersey power forwards.

Pistons over Pacers 4-2
The rematch of the brawl. Reggie Miller will be great in the series, but in the end Detroit will win. Reggie will get a standing O in Game 6, his final game.

Next update: Game 1. Sixers-Cavs.
