help with slowdown

CPU Specs:
256 ddr ram
Geforce 2 MX 400 64 mb vidoecard
P4 1.5 Ghz
Windows XP service pack 2

before, my computer runs the game smoothly on a 800x600 graphics.. i think that was before i installed SP2 on my windows.. after installation of the SP, the game experienced slow downs.. its live playing nba live in slow motion.
Don't know what the problem is, i have updated drivers, but to no avail.
At times, i can play the game smoothly, but that's like 1 every 15 times..1

I've also tried uninstalling the sp2, but still no change..
Don't think it's with the service pack..

oh....cuz i dl ed the official patch nd it actually slowed down my game...
i had some doubts so i reinstalled like 3 times nd played the game with nd without the patch nd it seemed like i wuz rite but fo ur case i hav no idea....??

do u guys have problem with sp2? yesterday.. i was able to play the game right.. when i reduce my resolution to the lowest.. it played good for a couple of games.. with programs running on my background (i was downloading something with bearshare while i was playing.. ) ... but today.. when i tried to run it.. ti slowed down again.. and to think my resolution is still at the lowest setting.
