Make A Player Retire

Postby carnifex on Mon Apr 25, 2005 9:33 am

is there any way to force a player of yours to retire? like say i'm the lakers right now and kobe is 40 and i want to clear him to make way for rookies but i dont want him to go to another team either, can I make him retire using DBF editing or something?

You might be able to do that through dbf editing, but if you really wanted to clear room for rookies you could just release him.

They retire when they get too old. Not sure what age though

i think if you just make his contract expire, then he'll retire. Cause the player can't retire unless he's contract is up, at least that's how LIVE works.

Players can retire anytime after 32 it seems, but usually when they get to be around 35. Players with higher ratings generally seem to stick around longer.

The only way to force him to retire would be to place him on team 38 through DBF editing, but he wouldn't show up on the Retired Players list nor would the game present you with an opportunity to retire his jersey.

Cool I didn't know that. Guess I'll give my fav players a 8 year contract once they hit 40.

well.... when the players are old, they prefer shorter contracts, most of the time 1 year.

Players can retire before their contract expires in NBA Live 2005, resulting in their salary coming off the books (in real life the team would continue to pay it or arrange a buyout, of course).

Put him on the IL and let him sit there. He will retire faster than if he's a starter. Basing this on what Ive seen, most players that retire younger seem to be bench/non-playing players.
