I'm sick of rock fans trying to diss hiphop, can't they understand some people hate rock too?

 yes rock fans only "diss" hip hop because we think no one hates rock. That's exactly what it is.

Actually, I listen to mostly rock stuff but I don't hate hip hop. I actually respect people who actually know their music. What I don't like though are those posers who try to act cool but they don't actually know anything. Plus there are too many fliggers (Filipino wiggers, yes there's a new breed) in my country at the moment that it's annoying. And they don't even know half the rappers in this thread.

I listen to rap all the time and IMO he wasn't that good. I'm glad Jae brought that up because I don't know why people keep acting like he was just so great. It's less black people talking about how great 2pac was and it's more white people talking about how great he is, who really don't know what to think. Look when Ol' Dirty Bastard died, they made a big deal out of him and when he was still alive, they barely even talked about the guy's rapping. The only time they talked about him was when he was in trouble.

I don't really like any of 2pac's work, but one thing is very true which happens a lot: When somebody dies, they're more famous, especially when they die at their peak or height of their career.

Yinka didn't get that famous though :P (RIP).

BTW, since we are comparing a bit: You have to be more talented to succed in the rock scene than in the rap scene.

The thing with 2Pac was that he was more than just a rapper... he didn't just talk, he really had experienced everything he rapped about.. It was his life he talked about and a lot of people especially in poverty can relate to him

Just for the record I don't like 2pac and I don't like mainstream rap either, except Nas maybe.

I think you shouldnt have a complete preference towards one type of music....if u like the song no matter what genre you should listen to it....whats happenin is most ppl listen to musicians that they see as "ideal"....its actually stupid for ppl to go saying "I Hate Rock" or "I Hate Techno"....most of them barely even listen to the good material thats made in those industries....if it doesnt suit their "personality" its seen as garbage.

Anyway that being said Tupac wasnt a master of rap....he was more of a poetic musician....he does have his crappy commerical tracks like every music artists has....but the things he did while he wasnt making tracks was what makes him symbolic....he stood outta the crowd....he was sorta a 90's Muhammed Ali....

Even Kurt Cobain isnt a all around genious...yes he did have a degree in english but his lyrics arent very dynamic....plus he wasnt a person you would wanna idolise due to his problems with cocaine etc....Nirvana were popular when Kurt was alive but his death greatly increased the legacy of the band.

A death of an artist causes their popularity to increase no matter what genre.

He doesn't have a degree in English; he was a high school drop out. I don't idolize him as a person, but I admire his creativity with music. What set Nirvana from the rest was a new genre of music - grunge, which I found to be a really cool style of music that I don't hear everyday.

death does increase people's awareness of someone because that's when they have the time to sit back and reflect what impact they had during their lives.

Who gives a rats ass about if 2Pac was the best rapper or not. I can name a handful of rappers better than him but i can name zero rappers who's music i enjoy more.

I doubt any rappers legacy would be as big as 2Pac's though, given his outspoken character, his movie career, poems, the whole Baltimore arts school thing and having his own foundation set up. Dude was more than just music.

Only because the people signing artists to big labels don't know anything about rap. See: Chingy, Ja Rule.

They know exactly what they are doing, do you think they give a flying fuck wether the rappers they are signing is a actually a talented rapper? They are just looking for the rapper that sells records (etc Ja Rule, 50cent), if he is a talented rapper or not is less important, as long as they sell. To quote a known rap refrain "it's all about the benjamins".

lol, the other night, I was bored and logged on IRC. and they were talking about the playoffs. then this one guy just kept saying that the NBA was fake and scripted. we ended up arguing and for some reason he kept talking like he was black.

"wacha rollin' on me for?", etc. etc.

then he backs it up by saying. that's who he is and that's how "brothaz" talk. wtf? then he was like. I can be black if I wanted to. huh? (kinda reminds me of the south park episode where kenny had a negroplasty)

then he goes to the point where he asks me which school I go to so he can know how smart I really am. Turns out he was from a rival school, equally filled with rich spoiled brats as ours

he even goes off sending me a private message that says that he was a from <insert school here> and I have the money and the brains to take you out or something.

Well its not like 2pac was the only rapper to experience what he rapped about. IMO, 50 Cent is weak, but he did get shot 9 times so he did experience that. What about Biggie, Snoop, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eminem, all those rappers speak the truth as well. So what I'm trying to say is, its been 9 years since he has been gone, he wasn't THAT great to keep talking and talking about him. Sure, he was good, but to keep bringing his name up over and over again is just crazy.

It's coo to represent him like in your sig or avator or whatever, but when you keep bringing up stuff about he is alive, its starting to become annoying and to think of it, I wonder how his mom feels about the people keep saying he is alive. I'm even getting sick and tired of new songs coming on the radio with him. You see that Notorious B.I.G. people left him alone by not saying he is alive and trying to bring more and more songs.

His mum is probably happy about it, she's rolling in cash now. I agree with Mafia's first post, I knew who Ol' Dirty Bastard was but no one talked about him until he died. As far as what Najira said goes, Cobain a degree in English? You really are a poser

then you should get out more. they're everywhere. i heard that there are local versions of the bloods and crips all over the country. and they didn't just rip off the concept. they even ripped the names of the gangs. they're literally calling themselves the bloods and the crips. even donning the colors i think

i know what you mean, but look at the people that say he is alive....almost all are about 15yrs old and don't have a clue as to what's going on. Why do they think that? Because he still has new music almost 10 yrs after his death. Biggie didnt have that.
