What career to select??

Right now i am in the second semester of grade 10 and i have no idea what to be in the future. I have to select my courses for next year and i don't know what to chose. I am really lost, i have no clue in what career i should go into. My parents are forcing me to go into the MEDICAL field while i want to go in the Computer field.

My parents say that you wont make enough money there so i should be a doctor or something. My overall mark is average (usually 70-80) but right now my average is 66% .

Anyway please ppl help me find a good career for my life. I depend on you ppl

What's your GPA? Judging by your grades, 66 is not very good, its like a 2. something(out of 4.5) GPA. I say do something that you enjoy doing. Don't sweat though, cuz I have no idea what I'm gonna do either when I graduate. I've already signed up for AP (advanced placement) classes next year which are gonna give me a hella lot of HW, but I want to go to UNC. Hard classes first, then easy.

My brother chose a career in medicine, and it's something you really have to want to do. There's a lot of things you have to stomach, so it's not for everyone.

The situation sounds a little more difficult because your parents seem to have aspirations for you that don't match your own goals and ideals. If possible, you should talk to them and explain that you really don't want to get into the field of medicine, and while money is certainly an important factor there's no point in spending 40+ years doing something you hate. As for there being no money in computers, that's not really the case. It might be more difficult to break into (at least here in Australia) but there are jobs in computers - web design and graphic design for example - where you can make a lot of money sometimes with a pretty easy working week.

Don't let your parents determine your future. You determine your own future, and to be brutally honest, I don't think your marks will lead to a promising future in medicine. Go with the computer field if that is your passion. Your career has to be something that you really, really, want to do and be happy and content with. As for money, you can make pretty good money in the computer field, and besides, it's better for you to be happy with your job rather than be unhappy in a high paying field.

I have told my parents about going into the computer field. My dad is a computer technician and computer programer and he says that you always have to learn about computers. I knw that my marks are not that good, i need above 80% to go into a good university for medical.

My parents and reletives want me to be some sort of doctor because they have this "brown" mentality. My uncle is a doctor and he makes more than 500,000 CDN a year, and my other uncle he is in the computer field makes 40,000 CDN a year. So you see doctor ppl make more money and thats good. But money is not evrything.

anything related to medicine or biology requires a lot of work and effort. Plenty of reading, understanding, and most importantly, memorizing.
the way i picked my major was what i found interesting in high school
i liked computers
i was good in math
i was good in all sciences but found physics interesting

computers+math+physics= computer engineering for me.

I actually started off in computer science the first year, but realized I'm more creative visually and enjoy graphic design (not just the programming aspect of HTML, which led me to the wrong path in the first place)

But seriously, the I.T field is hard to get into even if have all teh qualifications. There are other fields out there besides medical and the it industries. You should explore all the other professions, I dunno how hte system is set there, just pick alot of subjects and in the 1st year of year 11, drop the subjects you don't enjoy doing.

I actually have this same problem... I'm the 2nd semester of grade 11 so I'm actually in a bigger dilemma than wisdom_kid since I have to start writing apps pretty soon and colleges prefer students who know what they want to do...

My uncle is the boss there so that's basicly why I will get the job. It's only a temp. thing so I'm only gonna work there for maybe a year or so since I want to continue my studies later on.

Yea i do have couselors in my school, but they are idiots they told me my marks are soo bad that i wont even qualify for a grabage picker. Anyway i was not serious about depending on you ppl, i jus wrote that cause i have no time. I have to sumbit my courses for next year. I also thought of being a Dentist, but again MARKS come up.

try your hardest to make the high school team and be a good basketball player. Then you'll get to a college. Once you get finished college go to oversea in europe and play for italy league. You will own them and NBA scouts will be signing you the next year. You'll be making 2 million a year for a bench warmer.
