NBA Live 2005 online question

I just started my online gaming with NBA Live 05. After configuring my profile, I did a update roster option. I like the fact that the roosters changed and it stay that way even when your offline. But when I change my roster offline and go back online to challenge or play someone it says that I can't play anyone unless my roster is updated again. Is there anyway I can keep the way I want my roster without updating it?

u can only use your own roster during ip direct play
easo uses a default roster from 2004 and there own settings
if u want to use ur own roster do the ea update then load the roster and press save settings on the load/save screen

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question. My apologies for being so ignorant at this being that this is my first time going online with my Playstation2. You mentioned in order to use my own roster, do the ea update. How do you do that? And does this keep my roster when I go online and play others?
