Riot for Pope; How do you become Pope?

Fri Apr 08, 2005 3:22 pm

Here is what they do:

They allow anyone in the world (that is of high standards, like myself) to enter themselves into the election. Everyone's name (about 15-25 people) is on a ballot and the ballot is sent out to everyone home and the whole world. You can cast your vote then send it back to the Vatican by the end of the summer (Pope season) and they will count the billions of votes. That process takes a long time, they annouce the winner on Christmas Eve...The day Jesus is born is the day the new Pope takes over the Catholic Church.

I have offically entered my name on the ballot and I am currently campaigning myself across the world. I've called nearly 3,000 people so far (not me alone, but my camaign managers included) but still have a long way to go. I've been on Regis and Kelly the other day telling people why I should be elected. But like I said, the whole world votes so I must get the word out somehow. Right now I am currently targeting China and the Asian countries. Simply because they have more people than any other country.

As you can see, my campaign still has a long way to go but I am very serious about this. And you don't have to be catholic. On the ballot they will put an asteriks by each name that is a NON-catholic and then after it will put his religion. So for me it would be:

Travis Ryan*Lutheran-Christianity

Once the ballot gets filled with professional Pope suitors the ballots will be out and due back on August 31st. You should get your ballot shortly (2 weeks or so).

Yeah... actually about 26 Cardinals get together and they pick which one of them will become the Pope.

Fri Apr 08, 2005 4:57 pm

Jae's right although I think there are more than just 26. Every Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church in the whole world can be voted as the next Pope. It's the same process of nomination and then voting.

I guess you're out of the voting Riot.

Hopefully the bloke from Australia (Y)

Fri Apr 08, 2005 5:41 pm

According to the prophecies, the next Pope isn't gonna be around for very long... so good luck with that Riot (Y)

Fri Apr 08, 2005 5:52 pm

 and well you haven't read that "He's gonna get 4 balls, 2 ain't coming from his own, but being handed down from the previous one"
shit the prophecies all leaning towards you Riot

We were discussing this in my art & culture class, and technically, every catholic on earth is a candidate.

Fri Apr 08, 2005 6:39 pm

Yeh i just heard this on tv. Every catholic male who isn't married can be the next pope. But traditionally its chosen from cardinals.

He also has to be able to speak different languages , be international, have connections and be good with conflict resolution.

Fri Apr 08, 2005 7:28 pm

i think it's a requirement to speak latin...

Fri Apr 08, 2005 7:35 pm

I just googled it, it's 120 cardinals... either way, Riot will not be pope.

Fri Apr 08, 2005 8:36 pm

well, they'd be crazy to vote for a guy that has an obcession with KG's testicles

Hasn't anyone read Angels & Demons? The first installment of the Robert Langdon character made by Dan Brown? (The Da Vinci Code.)

If you had, you'd know how it works. You'd also know that the Chamberlain really killed the priest.

Sat Apr 09, 2005 1:35 am

wait riot, i will make campaign poster for you, soon... 8-)

Be careful though, don't believe everything Dan Brown says ;). But yeah, everytime someone mentions the selection of the next Pope, all I can think about is that passage in Angels & Demons.

Man, the Cardinals can be locked in there for days... Wonder how long it'll take em this time. Also, it'll be interesting if the media can actually get into the building...

Sat Apr 09, 2005 2:02 am

Hehe, no worries. I know a lot of his work is researched but at the end of the day the book is still fiction.

Reason I took it seriously is because after reading that part (about the Cardinals and the smoke) I googled it and saw it was true.

Sat Apr 09, 2005 3:26 am

Hmm, now you're making me want to read Angels & Demons. I've read The Da Vinci Code, and I thought it was a good read, especially since I read a lot of books on Christianity and I've taken a bunch of art history courses. I think I'm gonna give Angels & Demons a read :)

Sat Apr 09, 2005 3:34 am

Given you're into the christianity holyness thing, Angels & Demons is a must. (Y)

Not to highjack your thread Riot, but did any of you know that the Da Vinci Code is being filmed? Thus a movie is being made based on the book?

At first the logical choice for the Langdon character would be Harrison Ford given the writer himself describes Langdon to have similiarities. Alas they've taken...Tom Hanks to be Langdon. :?

The Da Vinci Code.

Sat Apr 09, 2005 6:12 am

ok, ok this isn't a freaking book club. This is Riot for Pope campaign headquarters. If you aren't helping you should just get out!

I WILL BE THE NEXT POPE. WHETHER IT KILLS ME OR NOT.

However, I just found out Vin Diesel is running for pope... :x :( I can't beat him. He's godly.

Sat Apr 09, 2005 6:16 am

On topic: Riot, you will never, ever, ever, be pope. Give up the campaign before you embarass yourself further :P

Off topic:

Although Harrison Ford would probably be a good choice, I must say I'm pretty excited about this movie since I'm a fan of Tom Hanks, and I enjoyed The Da Vinci Code. The writing could be better, imo, but the info is interesting.

Sat Apr 09, 2005 8:01 am

oh god... riot for pope?.....

god please no.

Sat Apr 09, 2005 8:26 am

I think I am the right person to be the next Pope. I will support, encourage and lead enthic cleansing rituals.

Just kidding, with Pope Riot the whole world will unite. America will be offically named the greatest country in the world (duh) and everyone will believe in one god, George W. Bush. 8-)

I think you overestimate the amount of leverage a pope possesses... I would recommend building your own church... The 'Riot Church for ethnically passionate Yankees'...

But Tom Hanks? He's so...Forrest Gump. Langdon is so...Indiana Jones. :(

Sat Apr 09, 2005 9:20 am

I think Langdon should be Richard Gere, he's perfect for the role.

IMHO Audrey Tautou and Jean Reno are incredible casting choices. (Y)

Hey Jackal, shut the hell up and get out of my thread! Make your own damn thread! :x
