Can't Sign Free Agents During the Season

Sat Mar 26, 2005 10:00 am

Hey All,

I swore I remember reading a post about this but I can't seem to find it now.

I did a fantasy draft to start my new dynasty and everything was going great. Then my backup point guard goes down, so I try to sign a free agent. Now I kept my roster to 11 players. But after I made him an offer, the answer I got was something about they won't even look at the offer because I have too many people on my roster or that my roster is already full. I believe I did cut one or two people, but that shouldn't matter. Even with the injured guy, I still only have 11 players on my roster.

I am using a roster update, but I don't remember which one. I don't think that's the problem...but I don't know what else it could be. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Are you sure it didn't say you are over the salary cap? That could be the problem.

I am almost positive. But even if it did, that wouldn't make any sense either. The contract was for 1.1M and I have almost 9M available not counting the players I cut.

Anybody got any other ideas??

Could be a bug I guess, though I don't think anybody else has experienced it. Generally when there's an actual fault in the game everybody will come across it at some point. What was the exact message in the PDA?

Mon Mar 28, 2005 12:35 pm

i had the same problem in the off season, i suggest you give him the same offer again. that fixed the bug for me.

Mon Mar 28, 2005 2:44 pm

Okay so I did try it again and got the same answer. I also doubled checked and I have 4 open roster spaces, over $14M available and no waived players.

Here is the message from the PDA:

From: Agent for C. Ward
Subject: Full Roster
Date: November 6, 2004

We are not even going to look at this offer because you don't have the roster space for my client. When you do please submit your offer again and we can discuss.

Any ideas? This really sucks! I am already down S. Livingston and need a backup PG. I just wish I could find the posting about this that I read before. Maybe it was on the EA Sports forum...

That's really strange. I thought perhaps it might refer to your roster and Ward's role/playing time, but the way it's worded definitely suggests a bug in the negotiation logic and roster management rules.

i also experience this....
u got a message saying i have a full roster but i only have 12 players...

so here what i've done, i never re-load the save files and offer him the same offer, and he accepted it...

Tue Mar 29, 2005 2:18 am

Well I tried offering him the same offer again but got the same response. I am not sure I fully understand what you mean by "never reload the save files" though. Can you clarify please? (Sorry it's a Monday and it's still early over here) :)

After the message i might have signed someone else and then signed the "error message" players. Or you can try to give them a little more money, maybe the messages got mixed up.... like a bug on EA's part.

I've experienced this recently. With my first offer to the FA he declined because my roster was full (but it wasn't). What I did was to offer again the same FA after a week, then he accepted my offer.

Wed Mar 30, 2005 9:07 am

Well I am going to try signing someone else because I really need a body out there. I will see if after a week I can get Ward to sign though. I will post my findings this evening.

Thanks again to everyone for their help so far!!

Tried signing someone else and got the same message. Tried increasing the offer to Ward, got the same message. I still have 2 more games in the current week, I will try again after I complete those 2 games.

If anyone else has any other suggestions, I am all ears. Thanks again!!

if everything else fails and you think the offer is fair, use DB commander to edit the player's status. LOL.... (Y)

Wed Mar 30, 2005 4:06 pm

try this.......waive another player.....then offer him back alongside with ward 8-)

RE: [L#]1101 - what field is the status field? I don't want to go this route if I don't have to but I am getting desparate

RE: COOLmac - I would try this idea, but I am worried that I wouldn't be able to get either one back then. I only have 11 players as it is and if I release another one and he won't resign then I am totally screwed. Has anyone tried this with any success?

Thanks!

Do you have the patch?
