Sony or Canon Digicam? Please help me decide

Mon Mar 28, 2005 9:13 am

I wanna buy a digital Camera.

Must have:
3-5 Megapixel
Rechargeable battery
Movie capture

Any recommendation?

Who makes the best digicam? Sony or Canon

I know for fact that the Sony Pro stick are more expensive than the compact flash used by Canon.

If you're going to develop your pictures I know you need at least 2.0 MP in order to have some nice 4x7 pictures. But i developed some pictures taken as VGA and they still came out good but not as good as the 2.0 -- these pictures were taken with a 3.2 MP Sony Cybershot

Thats why I'm looking for a 3-5 MP digicam.

Hopefully you guys know more than me in this department.

Thanks.

I got a Canon PowerShot A400 (3.2 Mega Pixels) for my birthday last year and so far I'm pretty impressed with it. A few of the photos from my holiday up to Surfer's Paradise earlier this year didn't turn out too well, but that can be ascribed to the fact the camera was moving at the time the pictures were taken (which can in turn be ascribed to the fact my fine motor skills were impaired at the time ;)).

Screw sony.. They are overpriced..

I'd suggest taking a look at olympus camera's. Thats what I have.

I have a 6.1 mega pixel camera, for a fraction of the sony 4megapixel camera :? go figure.

Olympus C-60 (Y)

As an added advantage you can take panoramic shots with it.

(which can in turn be ascribed to the fact my fine motor skills were impaired at the time Wink).
 nice one andrew

Canon.. I've done a lot of research when I went and bought my Canon Powershot A80 about an year ago. I think they have an A95 now, but I don't know how that one is, but I'm guessing it's a quality camera.

Don't get Sony, or that Sonystick. Compact flash is popular, and you should stick with it.

go for the canon....they are cheaper priced for the same specs as sony. You wanna get at least a 3 megapixel cam and 3x OPTICAL zoom. A Camera like that will cost $350 roughly....it all depends on your budget.

That camera is compact and great for travel, it fits in your pocket. The 6 megapixel cameras ive seen are all rather bulky and not good if you wanna travel (unless you want it around your neck). They are expensive too.

my camera is 6.1 megapixel. And fits in my pocket no sweat. and it was $488.

But if you have your heart set on cannon or sony, go for cannon.

Definitely a rechargeable size AA NiMH battery!!! I've done a lot of research on cameras, and this one is definitely the way to go. I'd recommend at least an NiMH 2200 mAh Powerex brand batteries. They last looong, and recharging is great. Get the MAHA CH204F recharger if you can.
